Traveling on the expressway at approximately 70mph the dashboard/instrument panel started lighting up with warnings regarding tires, braking, engine, etc, and the car/power started shutting down, could not accelerate, steering and braking became difficult, fortunately I was able to access an off ramp at which point the car was stopped with multiple cars and semis behind me. The emergency flasher did work which most likely saved us from being rear-ended. We turned the car off and then turned it back on twice and then it started up again.

On [XXX], my vehicle’s gas pedal and acceleration system completely stopped working mid-drive on an interstate highway without warning. The car coasted to a stop. After shutting off the car and restarting, the gas pedal worked again. This was the second time this occurred (the first was on [XXX]). I brought the car to my dealer, Bernardi Honda in Natick, as I had done before. They found “loss of communication codes,” and “updated the ECU management system” but since they couldn’t replicate the issue they didn’t know if that would resolve the issue. It did not. They gave me the car back. This would happen a third time on [XXX] and I submitted a report about that, too. I believe my car should be included in recall campaign number 23V588000. Driving at low speeds in Somerville MA on [XXX]. 1 yr old car with about $6k miles. It was a hot day. Front display lit up with warning about brakes being degraded and take to dealer. It also showed tire warnings, and traction control warnings. I believe acceleration was greatly reduced. Pulled over. Turned car off and on, and most of the errors cleared, except a brake warning. I drove 5 minutes home. Power cycled again, and the brake warning disappeared. I put a code reader on it, and it showed numerous communications issues. Problem did not repeat. I took to dealer. They confirmed the codes, and communicated with Honda corporate. Honda confirmed they were aware of the problem, but they do not have a solution yet. Google Search showed that it is an isolated problem. If it had happened at highway speeds, it could have resulted in a major accident Attaching code report to show communications errors INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This has happened on two separate occasions, with our purchased-new 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid, which has about 30,000 miles on it. We've had no other issues with this car prior to these two events described below, which happened within in one week of each other. FIRST EPISODE: I was driving on a 4 lane road separated by a median, moving straight ahead at around 30MPH, when suddenly, without any warning from any of the car systems, the displays went completely dark, I was unable to accelerate at all, and had to coast-over into a shopping center parking spot. Once I rolled into the lot (I still had steering), I placed it into park. I waited a few minutes, pushed down the brake and started the car without incident. We took it to a Honda Dealership, but they stated that because there were no warning messages we saw displayed, they would be unlikely to be able to reproduce this, and given we would have had to leave the car for several days without a loaner, we chalked it up to some kind of fluke-glitch. If this had happened on a freeway at higher speeds, this could have caused a serious life-threatening situation (being completely without power, unable to accelerate in fast moving traffic). SECOND EPISODE: This time, I was making a left hand turn and accelerating from a side street onto a main thoroughfare when the car once again lost all ability to accelerate, all screens went dark, and I coasted to the side of the road. There were no warning lights or messages prior to this happening, and once again all display screens were completely dark. Once I coasted to a stop, I put the car in Park, put my foot on the brake, and the car started right up. Had there been any cars coming in either direction, this loss of all ability to accelerate (and all power) could have placed me and other drivers in a serious life-threatening situation. We have an appointment on 6-6-24 with a local Honda Dealership, and it appears others have had this same problem.

RQ24006 · Front Seat Belt Assemblies May Be Missing The Rivet That Secures The Quick Connector And Wire Plate

Opened Apr 4, 2024 · Closed Mar 26, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts; Seat Belts:front

On April 4, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ24006 to investigate American Honda Motor Co.’s (Honda’s) proposed remedy for recall 23V-782 as well as scope of the vehicles involved. Honda issued recall 23V-782 on November 21, 2023, which concerns certain model year (MY) 2023-2024 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda HR-V vehicles. Recall 23V-782 states that the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioner assemblies may have been manufactured without a rivet that secures the pretensioner quick connector and wire plate. Recall documentation states that seat belt pretensioner assemblies that are missing the rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.Subject defective seat belt assemblies are installed as original equipment for both the driver and front passenger positions for the HR-V, but only for the driver position for the Accord and Accord Hybrid. The recall remedy for 23V-782 instructs the technician to inspect both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies and, if necessary, replace them. The inspection procedure requires the technician to utilize a pull force gauge to determine whether the subject component is missing the subject rivet and requires replacement. Parts requiring replacement are determined by whether the pretensioner quick connector separates from the pretensioner assembly while the technician is pulling on the seat belt. If no separation occurs, then the part is determined to be not defective and not require replacement. There have been no reports alleging a failure of seat belt pretensioner assemblies after the inspect and replace remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed. Additionally, no comparable failures have been observed in field data for similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall. As of the 4th quarter of 2024, the recall completion rate is at approximately 84% of the total recalled population. In view of the lack of failures after the remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed, and the lack of failures in similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
