2018 Ford Edge

My 2018 Ford Edge SEL AWD 2.0L Ecoboost just had a Long Block replacement due to a “Coolant Intrusion” into the engine. Got the vehicle back from the Ford dealership today. I had this car factory-built for myself in 2018, and I only have 28,000 miles on it! And GET THIS... the super-duper six-year extended Warranty I paid over $5,000 for when I bought the Edge expired just 5 WEEKS BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. Talk about unfortunate timing! I have been reading on the internet about many, many people who are having the same problem with Ecoboost engines, due to a manufacturing defect that Ford has admitted to for certain makes/models/years with Ecoboost engines… and that the vehicles have caught on fire in some instances. Mind you, I have only taken my Edge to Ford dealerships. Like clockwork, I am VERY proactive about my car check-ups... and then some. I took it to the Ford dealership the day my "check engine" light came on (no other indications before that). I had my 1996 Ford Mustang convertible for 22 years before changing to this Edge, and that car still looked like new. I baby my cars. The day they told me what the problem was and that the Estimate was a $7,800 Long Block repair due to "Coolant Intrusion into the Engine", I looked it up on the internet and saw my same problem EVERYWHERE! This should have been a Recall. Is Ford waiting for people to die before they would do a Recall?

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine overheated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle but the failure persisted. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the coolant level was low. The contact stated that he replaced the spark plugs and and ignition coil; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder #3, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

2018 Ford Edge Titanium--Engine Light (CEL)light up, took to mechanic--Ignition coil Cylind 01 replaced and spark plug--Continue to come on--Firestone complete Auto Care 08/11/2023, they keep resetting. Now 2024 Again same issue, taking car to Ford dealer 08/30/2024--This is a know issue with the Ecoboost 2.0 engine. I almost was killed when car was almost stalling out and engine jumping and vehicle was thrashing in traffic on 08/23/2024. I have a Fidelity Warranty -Medallion Care Protection purchased when bought this car, it's good for another year. My car needs a new engine from Ford, Vin number not on recall list, but this a know problem with Ford Edges from 2015-2019, then Ford changed design. Need help getting a new engine...

My vehicle experienced what many of the Ford vehicles have had occur in this year range regarding the EcoBoost engine. My 2018 Ford Edge, maintained by the dealership since purchase, equipped with the EcoBoost 2.0 engine had coolant leak into the number one cylinder. Once this happens, there is no repair besides to replace the engine. Ford knows there an issue, even the service person told me this happens a lot with this model, but there is no recall at this time. They want $7,800 to change the engine block. Ford changed the design by scoring channels between the cylinders in an ill conceived attempt to increase cooling. This bad design allows coolant to degrade head gasket leading to coolant intrusion into cylinders. Inevitably, this leads to engine failure. Apparently, Ford redesigned the Ecoboost 2.0 engine around 2020 to eliminate this issue. Ford has not recalled these engines and apparently refuses to fix the issue if the vehicle is out of warranty. The Ecoboost 2.0 engines with this bad design WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. This issue is the direct result of Ford’s bad design making these engines unmerchantable. I know this has been reported many times to the NFTSA and should be a major recall for this engine.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and was running rough. The contact stated that the infotainment system was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

NHTSA needs to recall the engines on these vehicle check engine light came on had checked was told spark plug #4 misfire vehicle is overheating and taking all coolant, white smoke coming out the exhuast, when I brake my emergency brakes are being applied??? I see that there are other people who are having same issues NHTSA and FORD need to RECALL THE ENGINES!! Vehicle has 90,0000 miles on it and failed wont turn over replace the engines on these vehicles you guys are so wrong for not considering this a recall after reading other peoples concerns my 2018 ford edge is doing the same thing and still owe on this piece of crap!!!!

My check engine light came on, by the time they could get the car into the shop it would overheat and stall. It was found that the engine is leaking coolant into the wrong parts causing a misfire, the car is now non operable. It is well documented in TSB 19-2346, confirmed by dealership the engine needs to be replaced. My safety has been in great risk as it could have stalled at any time in any location while I was traveling with my kids. Ford is negligent in fixing a KNOWN issue

Check engine light appeared and the car ran rough. I took the car to an automotive repair shop. Spark plugs are misfiring into the cylinder causing coolant to leak into the engine. Then causing the engine block to crack. 2018 ford edge with only 38000 miles. The engine could start on fire and cause catastrophic failure. The car is not drivable and the mechanic cannot repair it without changing the whole engine out.
