From the beginning of my lease, the vehicle experienced repeated malfunctions of its safety and proximity sensor systems, including warning alerts and sensor-related failures. The vehicle was taken multiple times to an authorized Honda dealership for diagnosis and repair. Despite these repeated service visits, the safety sensor issues were never properly repaired or resolved. I later discovered that the vehicle was subject to an active safety recall, which was never disclosed to me, even though the vehicle was serviced at the dealership on multiple occasions. Subsequently, the vehicle was involved in an accident that resulted in a total loss. Based on the unresolved sensor failures and the undisclosed recall, I believe these safety defects may have contributed to the accident. This complaint is submitted to report a serious safety concern and to request that NHTSA investigate whether similar vehicles may present a broader safety risk.

There were no warning signs of any kind . If I would have been approaching the freeway I could have been killed.

While driving 2023 Honda Accord at normal speed on rural road, the vehicle began to brake on it's own and driver could not over-ride this. Alarms for multiple failures showed on the dashboard. Car was stopped and would not move. Car was turned off then restarted. Dashboard alarms went away, only small information light for brake malfunction remained. Driver began to drive and tested brakes, all acted normally. Car was brought to Honda dealership. Dealership investigated and consulted with Honda engineers. They could not find a cause of the error, so nothing was fixed on the vehicle. Honda charged owner $150 to tell them nothing was wrong, even though car had taken control of brakes and stopped itself.

Driving on town road up a hill at about 30 mph when I got a brake system warning and the engine shut off and accelerator did not work. I was able glide to the side of the road (steering worked). I turned the car off and on and was able to continue driving to my destination but the same error message was present along with several others (eg TPMS, lane assist, collision mitigation). After being parked for 1 hour, I started car and there were no error messages and car functioned normally. Brought car to dealer (Westbrook CT Honda) and they ran diagnostic codes but found nothing other than what they described as an older voltage flux. They had never heard of a car's engine shutting off with the break system error. Told me that if it happened again to have car towed in so that there would be no code resets. I can only imagine my fear level if this had happened at 65 mph in the middle lane of a highway! I found a on-line forum where others are describing the same thing. Time for a recall? The car stalled suddenly with hand brake pulled automatically while driving at a slow speed at a parking lot. The information center shows brake indicator flashing in red with description statements that include the brake might have reduced power and how to restart the car. Was able to start the car after releasing the hand brake and drive without issue. Sent the car to dealer’s service department but they couldn’t recreate the symptom and was told there is no recall for this issue.

1RQ24006 · Front Seat Belt Assemblies May Be Missing The Rivet That Secures The Quick Connector And Wire Plate
Opened Apr 4, 2024 · Closed Mar 26, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts; Seat Belts:front
On April 4, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ24006 to investigate American Honda Motor Co.’s (Honda’s) proposed remedy for recall 23V-782 as well as scope of the vehicles involved. Honda issued recall 23V-782 on November 21, 2023, which concerns certain model year (MY) 2023-2024 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda HR-V vehicles. Recall 23V-782 states that the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioner assemblies may have been manufactured without a rivet that secures the pretensioner quick connector and wire plate. Recall documentation states that seat belt pretensioner assemblies that are missing the rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.Subject defective seat belt assemblies are installed as original equipment for both the driver and front passenger positions for the HR-V, but only for the driver position for the Accord and Accord Hybrid. The recall remedy for 23V-782 instructs the technician to inspect both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies and, if necessary, replace them. The inspection procedure requires the technician to utilize a pull force gauge to determine whether the subject component is missing the subject rivet and requires replacement. Parts requiring replacement are determined by whether the pretensioner quick connector separates from the pretensioner assembly while the technician is pulling on the seat belt. If no separation occurs, then the part is determined to be not defective and not require replacement. There have been no reports alleging a failure of seat belt pretensioner assemblies after the inspect and replace remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed. Additionally, no comparable failures have been observed in field data for similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall. As of the 4th quarter of 2024, the recall completion rate is at approximately 84% of the total recalled population. In view of the lack of failures after the remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed, and the lack of failures in similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
