THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EMIT AN AUDIBLE SQUEAKING/CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE REAR END WHEN TRAVERSING BUMPS OR POT RIDDEN ROADS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 1/4/13 AND THEY DENIED THE EXISTENCE OF THE NOISE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND IDENTIFIED THAT THE NOISE WAS IN FACT THERE, SO I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DID FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND DETERMINED THE THE PROBLEM LIED WITH THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND THE CONNECTING ROD. THEY REPLACED ALL THREE AND WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK, I NOTICED THAT BOTH NOISE PERSISTED SO I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC. HE DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM ORIGINATED FROM WORN OUT SWAY BAR BUSHINGS AND HE ALSO FOUND MY REAR AXLE TO BE LEAKING DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISAGREED WITH MY MECHANIC AND FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE WITH MY SHOCKS AND THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAK WAS "NORMAL". MY MECHANIC ONCE AGAIN REEXAMINED EVERYTHING AND PERSISTED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH MY SWAY BAR. THE DEALER FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE THE SWAY BAR AND BUSHINGS AND THEY ALSO REPLACED BOTH REAR SHOCKS. AFTER THIS, THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND HAS NOT RETURNED. NO FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAK. *TR

MY 2012 V6 MUSTANG SUDDENLY SWERVED TO THE LEFT REALLY HARD FORCING ME IN TO THE LEFT LANE AND ALMOST IN TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THEN TO THE RIGHT WHICH ALMOST MADE ME LOSE CONTROL. FELT LIKE EACH TIRE WAS LOCKING UP INDEPENDENTLY. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS FLASHING. FELT LIKE I GOT A FLAT AND THAT MY CAR WAS BRAKING ALL BY ITSELF. I TRIED TO THROTTLE UP A SECOND LATER TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND IT HAD NO RESPONSE. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN PULLING OVER I HIT THE BRAKES AND THEY SOUNDED LIKE METAL ON METAL, FELT ROUGH AND LIKE THE ABS WAS ENGAGING. ONCE STOPPED I CHECKED THE TIRES AND ALL WERE FINE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED A SECOND. TURNED IT BACK ON AND ALL SEEMS FINE. THIS MADE ME ALMOST CRASH IN TO ANOTHER CAR!!!! THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE ON FORUMS LIKE THIS ONE HTTP://WWW.ALLFORDMUSTANGS.COM/FORUMS/2011-MUSTANG-TALK/352383-ADVANCTRAC-ALMOST-CAUSED-MAJOR-WRECK-9.HTML COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

I HAD TWO INCIDENTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY 2012 FORD MUSTANG GT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PREMIUM PKG. THESE TWO INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY MARCH 5, 2013. THE FIRST WAS AFTER I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM ITS GARAGE OF SEVERAL WEEKS AT LUNCH AND DROVE BACK TO WORK. I HAD GONE ABOUT TWO BLOCKS FROM MY GARAGE AND WAS BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE CAR DOWN SHIFTED AND ACCELERATED BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MPH WHEN THIS ALL STARTED. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THEN THE CAR RELEASED AND STOPPED THE ACCELERATION AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND MAKE MY RIGHT HAND TURN. I CONTINUED ON BACK TO WORK AND COMPLAINED TO MY CO-WORKER ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HOW I WAS BEGINNING TO BECOME AFRAID OF THE MUSTANG. HE IS MY WITNESS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING BEFORE THE SECOND INCIDENCE OCCURRED. LATER ON I LEFT WORK TO GO HOME AND ON THE WAY HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN A SECOND TIME ONLY THIS TIME MUCH STRONGER. I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC GOING UNDER INTERSTATE HWY 820 BRIDGE IN FORT WORTH TO GO UNDER THE BRIDGE AFTER GOING THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON EACH SIDE TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN TO GET ON THE WEST BOUND IH820. WELL BECAUSE OF THE TRAFFIC YOU HAVE TO STOP AT ONE LIGHT ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND THEN AGAIN STOP TO GET THROUGH THE SECOND LIGHT ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE TO TURN LEFT. ANYWAY THERE WAS A LARGE SEMI-TRUCK HAULING ROCKS IN FRONT OF ME AND I STAYED BACK ABOUT 60 FEET SO AS NOT TO GET THE ROCKS ON NEW CAR. HE WENT DOWN TO THE OTHER LIGHT WHICH WAS RED AND STOPPED I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MPH AGAIN AND STARTED TO BRAKE WAY BACK FROM HIM BECAUSE OF THE ROCKS AND THE RED LIGHT. THE CAR AGAIN ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I FOUGHT IT THE WHOLE WAY BUT IT WOULD NOT LET RELEASE TILL 15 FEET FROM TRUCK. I THEN CRASHED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! *TR

DROVE IT HOME AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED, AS IT IS STILL DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS. FORD NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A FIX IMMEDIATELY AND FIX OUR MUSTANGS. *TR

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
