OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. IT HAS DOWNSHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR ON ITS OWN FROM DIFFERENT GEARS, IT HAS STAYED LOCKED IN GEAR ON SEVERAL GEARS AND IT HAS STAYED IN A HIGH GEAR WHILE STOPPED, SO IT IS VERY SLOW LEAVING A LIGHT. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. NO TROUBLE CODES OR LIGHTS (MIL OR WRENCH) HAVE BEEN THROWN OR LIT UP DURING THE INCIDENTS. THE CAR SEEMS TO RIGHT ITSELF AFTER A FEW MINUTES. HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A LONG PERIOD AND IS COLD. TOOK THE CAR TO GLENN FORD IN NICHOLASVILLE, KY AND EXPLAINED WHAT THE VEHICLE WAS DOING AND IF IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL THAT THEY PERFORMED (16N02/16S19) ON THE CAR BACK IN FEB 2017. THEY BRUSHED IT OFF AND SAID IT WOULD BE $110 TO LOOK AT THE CAR. WE SAID FINE. THEY HAVE HELD THE CAR FOR 6 DAYS AND SAID THEY DROVE IT AT LEAST 36 MILES AND "NOTHING HAPPENED". THEY SAID THERE ARE NO DTC/FAULT CODES, SO THE CAR IS PERFECTLY FINE. THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT PERFORM THE MOLDED LEADFRAME REPAIR OF THE RECALL BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FAULT CODES. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPLAINING OF THE SITUATION BECAUSE THE INFO ON THE NOTICE SAYS EITHER A FAULT CODE SHOWS UP OR THE CUSTOMER "REPORTS AN INTERMITTENT UNINTENDED DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR". WELL, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE REPORTED BEFORE WE EVEN REALIZED ANYTHING ABOUT THE LEADFRAME PART OF THE RECALL. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD HAVE REFUSED TO FIX THE VEHICLE UNLESS THERE IS A DEFAULT CODE/DTC SHOWING. THEY WANT US TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL A FAULT CODE SHOWS (THUS POSSIBLY ENDANGERING OUR LIVES) AND THEN THEY WILL LOOK AT IT AGAIN. DOESN'T MEAN FIX IT, JUST LOOK AT IT AGAIN FOR ANOTHER $110. THIS IS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE. FORD WON'T EVEN FIX IT UNDER THEIR OWN RECALL INSTRUCTIONS!!!! AND THE CAR QUALIFIES!

SHIFT SOLENOID D : VEH IS PART OF RECALL 16S19 AND RECALL 16N02. THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING STILL AT WITHOUT WARNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THIS DEVICE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL, AND FORD IS REFUSING TO COVER THIS DEFECT ALTHOUGH IT IS CLEARLY A PART OF THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAD ORDERED THESE TRANSMISSIONS FROM A MANUFACTURER IN CHINA, AND THEY'VE BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM DAY ONE. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN THE MALFUNCTION OCCURS. THE CAR WAS SOLD TO ME THIS WAY IN FEBRUARY OF 2013, AND AT THE TIME THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS AN OPEN ECM ISSUE AND WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED WITH. I TOOK THEM AT THEIR WORD AND AM PAYING THE PRICE FOR IT. I HAVE CHECKED MY CAR FAX, AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF THIS AS A PROBLEM. NOW, I AM GETTING A CODE P0769 READ MORE: HTTPS://WWW.ENGINE-CODES.COM/P0769.HTML THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD IS SAYING THEY DO NOT AND ARE NOT GOING TO COVER THIS UNDER THE RECALL NOTIFICATION. AS A FORMER PARAMEDIC, WITH EXPERIENCE WITH COUNTLESS MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS OVER THE YEARS, IT IS MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO LIFE, LIMB AND PROPERTY AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED.

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
