I am the owner of a 2012 Ford Mustang GT currently located in Kuwait. My vehicle has an open Takata airbag safety recall, which is a life-threatening defect. I contacted the authorized Ford dealer in Kuwait and Ford Middle East, but both refused to perform the recall repair, stating that the vehicle is a “gray market import” and not eligible. They also attempted to condition the repair on paid service, which is unrelated to safety recalls. Additionally, the authorized dealer informed me that my vehicle has a total of four open recalls, not just the Takata airbag recall. Despite this, they still refused to perform any of the recall repairs due to the vehicle being a “gray market import.” This refusal leaves me driving an unsafe vehicle with no official repair solution. Safety recalls should not be denied based on geographic location, as they are a manufacturer responsibility tied to the vehicle. I am requesting investigation into this issue.

TAKATA RECALL - I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT DURING RUSH HOUR ON A BUSY CITY STREET. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND BEFORE I MADE IT 10 FEET THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES. I HIT HIM FROM BEHIND, IT WAS A VERY MINOR IMPACT BUT MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND EXPLODED/RUPTURED OVER MY LAP. IT SHATTERED MY IPHONE AND BURNED MY LEFT LEG ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE MY KNEE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE FRONT END OF MY CAR I SAW VIRTUALLY NO VISIBLE DAMAGE, ONLY A 2CM PAINT CHIP AND A VERY SLIGHTLY BENT LICENSE PLATE. MY CAR DRIVES PERFECTLY, THERE ARE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS EXCEPT FOR THE AIRBAG LIGHT. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT I AM DEALING WITH A FAULTY DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG. I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT I ALREADY HAD MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.

FYI I CAN NOT INCLUDE THE TOP/ROOF DUE TO IT WONT ALLOW ME TO INPUT THE CHECK MARK) I BAUGHT THIS MUSTANG IN JUNE 2012,USED FROM FORD HERE IN SIOUX FALLS SD, SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE TOP ABOUT THE CLUNKING AND IF THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME IF ANY RECALLS. THEY ONLY SENT ONE FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG , UNTIL THIS WEEK WHEN I RECEIVED A SECOND NOTICE FOR THE TAKATA AIR BAGS FROM THE DAY I TOOK HER OFF THE LOT. I WANTED TO KNOW WHY MY FRONT END SUSPENSION IS MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND IN FRONT AND IT'S BEEN THERE SINCE THE FIRST DAY, I EVEN HAD HER LOOKED AT TO MAKE SURE SHE WASN'T DAMAGED, WITHIN MINUTES THEY CAME BACK AND SAID SHE'S FINE NO PROBLEMS AND WHY MY TRANSMISSION DOES NOT WANT TO SHIFT TO HIGHER GEARS FROM 1ST THRU OVERDRIVE, SHE BOGS DOWN LIKE THERE ISNT ANY FUEL GETTING TO HER ENGINE AND SHE DOESN'T SHIFT THROUGH THE GEARS PROPERLY, IF I HAD RECIEVED THE RECALLS IT WOULD OF BEEN IN IMMEDIATELY. MY TOP LEAKS WATER WHEN WASHED SO IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE ON THE INSIDE ESPECIALLY THE DOOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, YET FORD REFUSED TO HAVE THE TOP REDONE SINCE THEY FEEL IT'S JUST NORMAL WEAR YET ITS HAPPENED SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO WASH HER. I'M STARTING TO THINK THINK FORD HAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF ME IN THIS CASE AS I STILL CAN NOT GET ANY UPDATED INFORMATION ON MY CAR AND IF I CAN EITHER GET THE WORK DONE OR THE VEHICLE REPLACED, MIND YOU I STILL OWE ON HER AND TO BE HONEST I DO NOT WANT A TRADE IN , I'D RATHER FORD FIX THESE ISSUES AND WRITE OFF THE REMAINING DEBT DUE TO NEGLIGENCE FOR NOT ADVISING ME OF THESE RECALLS IN A TIMELY MANNER AND FOR BIT FIXING THE ISSUES WHEN THE RECALLS CAME OUT . IT'S QUITE FRUSTRATING TO KNOW I'VE PAID OVER 20000 FOR A CAR THAT THEY ARE WILLFULLY NEGLECTING TO FIX AND YET I'M TO BE LIABLE FOR THE DEBT NO MATTER THE POSSIBLITY THAT THEY ARE NEGLIGENT AND DISMISSIVE OF MY CLAIMS.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
