TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TRAILSTAR NITRO Z8 BOAT TRAILER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V290000 (EQUIPMENT). HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TOWING A BOAT ON THE TRAILER, SMOKE STARTED TO EMIT FROM THE BRAKES. THE TRAILER WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED. THE TRAILER WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 450.
TRACKER MARINE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012-2013 TRAILSTAR NITRO AND TAHOE BOAT TRAILERS, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 28, 2011, THROUGH MAY 13, 2012. VARIANCE OF A BRACKET WELDED IN THE BRAKE ACTUATOR SHELL PREVENTS THE FULL RANGE OF MOTION OF THE MASTER CYLINDER SHAFT ROD. THIS CAN CAUSE THE BRAKES TO OVERHEAT AT THE WHEELS. EXCESSIVE HEAT MAY LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE AND/OR POSSIBLE WHEEL BEARING FAILURE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF EITHER OCCURS THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: TRACKER MARINE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE ACTUATORS, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 16, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TRACKER MARINE AT 1-417-873-4588.
