2024 Toyota Tacoma

On my 24 Tacoma TRD Sport early in July my wife went to run the A/C and it was just blowing air. I took it to the local Toyota dealer on July 27, and they told me that a small pin hole leaked all of the freon out. Something like a rock or road debris. As they gave me the estimate to repair, excess of $3,000 I argued back that I had no idea what happened until my wife went to run the A/C. The dealer responded to file an "accident report" with insurance as the best course of action. I had full warranty coverage for 10 years, 100,000 miles and my truck had 25,000 miles on it. So, I called my insurance company to make up a date and time of when "something" hit the truck to develop this pin hole leak. Bottom line, this A/C condenser lies vulnerable to getting hit along with other critical components on the large openings on this model truck. The other fact is how quickly this A/C condenser failed from road debris is concerning regarding quality of parts being installed on new vehicles. I will include pictures downloaded. This truck came with a felt, fabric type front "skid" plate that I replaced with steel skid plate. And after this "incident" I installed chicken wire cut-outs over the 4 lower openings where the "debris" came in at speed and planning a mesh style grill protector to fill in the other lower openings. The question is, why do I have to go out of my way and expense to protect critical components from road debris that are a hazard today? And why should I have to pay so much for literally defective parts that failed so easily? I have not repaired the condenser because I have to save up to pay for it all. So, when the weather is warmer, my truck sits when it should be driven to baseball games and other activities including work. This has hampered my experience with this newer truck and my relationship with the dealer and corporate Toyota (which I called) to fully understand why they would both not lift a finger to assist.

The pulley system and other undetermined parts were replaced, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was operating normally, but the pulley system was replaced a second time, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer, and the entire pulley system was replaced, and the display screen was re-flashed, but months later the failure recurred and became worse. The vehicle was repaired another time, but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle remained with the dealer and was diagnosed with an air conditioning compressor failure which caused the ticking sound. The vehicle was repaired, but the dealer declined to accept fault if the air conditioning compressor failed again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.
