Toyota Corolla electrical problems

While reversing out of a parking spot, I noticed my break and steering wheel felt extremely stiff. I lost control of the vehicle for a second until I instinctively pushed HARD on the break. I realized it was unsafe to continue reversing, so I switched from R (reverse) to D (drive), I let go of the break pedal slowly, but the car continued to reverse. I pushed hard on the stiff break again, and switched from D (drive), to P (park), I let go of the break pedal again, and the car continued to roll back in reverse still. I realized my cars breaks, steering wheel, and gears were being unresponsive. I kept my foot on the break pedal, used the parking stick and set the car into P (parking) again, and turned it off. The car did not roll back as before, and was completely off. I turned the car back on again, and it went back to normal. The steering wheel and break pedal were not stiff, and the gears were all working and being responsive. I searched up the problem, and from what I have read, it is currently unsafe to drive my vehicle. I have kept up with proper and regular maintenance on my vehicle. But from what I have researched, the corolla has had a massive recall on this exact problem. However, my vin number indicates my vehicle is not eligible for a recall. I would like to receive proper help for this problem, as it is a dangerous and widely known problem with the 2013-2019 corollas.

when I use blinker windshield wipers turn on and sometimes when I call or somebody calls my cell phone I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. does not happen all the time, but I was concerned since there was a recall on certain toyota corolla that says a short circuit may develop in the OCS sensor, preventing front passenger air bag from deploying and my son who is a mechanic said both of these could be a problem with the wiring in the column and I thought it may be connected to the same recall as the air bags? the wipers coming on is happening more often these days and that is why I mentioned it to my son who is a mechanic. he will not touch it since it is still under my extended protection but he is concerned about it getting worse since the blinker is attached to the column. as far as using not being heard by callers or when I call I am concerned if I need to call in an emergency the ones I call cannot hear me. as far as when this started I do not remember but I know it's been at least 6 months if not longer, it just seems to be doing it more often lately

On March 12, 2025, I was involved in a frontal collision when another vehicle unexpectedly pulled out in front of me. Impact occurred to the front-left area of my vehicle. Despite the nature of the collision, the front airbags did not deploy. The vehicle is subject to Safety Recall 20TA03, which addresses incomplete or non-deployment of airbags and/or seat belt pretensioners due to ECU susceptibility to electrical noise in certain crash scenarios. The vehicle was declared a total loss by my insurance company and is no longer available for inspection. The manufacturer was notified in May 2025 and again in November 2025. The manufacturer closed the case citing inability to inspect the vehicle and later relied on photographs only to rule out airbag deployment concerns. No warning lights or messages related to the airbag system were observed prior to the collision. The non-deployment of the airbags placed my safety at risk during a frontal impact.

Insurance Co. failed to investigate porperly and sold the car To Co-part without waiting for Probate forms to be complete for this vehicle and the Estate. We have discovered this car was an Avis fleet vehicle sold as 'new' at Beaver Toyota. I am requesting a federal investigation to determine if a mechanical or electronic defect caused this loss of control." While the vehicle was parked and powered off, a fire originated inside the driver seat area. There was no collision, no aftermarket electrical equipment installed, and no heated seat or accessory usage at the time of the incident. The vehicle was stationary when the fire began. The fire damage was concentrated within the driver seat assembly, consistent with a suspected electrical failure involving seat wiring, seat-mounted components, or associated harnesses. This is not consistent with owner misuse or external ignition sources. The insurer (Allstate Insurance Company) declared the vehicle a total loss but declined further fire-origin or electrical defect investigation. The vehicle is at risk of being sold or dismantled through a salvage auction, which would destroy critical evidence related to a potential manufacturer defect. The vehicle is currently listed on Copart (Lot# 99091095 highlighted as ‘Run and Drive’) I have completed a Power of Attorney (HSMV 82053) per Allstate requirement, along with a limited conditions notification for evidence preservation however Allstate is refusing to accept the conditions stating their intent to sell it as salvage. This incident presents a serious safety concern involving spontaneous ignition within the passenger compartment. Similar failures pose a risk of injury, death, or property damage, particularly if ignition occurs while occupied. I am requesting that NHTSA review this incident for potential electrical system or seat assembly defects and preserve this complaint as part of any pattern or trend analysis involving Toyota vehicles.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this email to formally report a potential vehicle safety defect involving my 2022 Toyota Corolla. Vehicle information: - Make/Model: 2022 Toyota Corolla - In-service date: 08/18/2022 My vehicle sustained significant wiring damage caused by rodents. Toyota has denied warranty and financial assistance, characterizing the issue as an “outside influence.” However, according to what I read online, modern vehicles —including Toyota models—use soy-based or bio-based wiring insulation, which is widely documented to attract rodents. The damage affected critical electrical wiring, creating potential safety hazards including loss of vehicle function and increased fire risk. This is not merely cosmetic damage but impacts essential vehicle systems. The foreseeability of rodent attraction due to wiring materials raises concerns of a design-related safety defect and failure to adequately warn consumers. Toyota has stated there are no recalls or customer support programs addressing this issue, despite recurring reports from vehicle owners nationwide. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter as a potential safety defect and consider whether further investigation is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this safety concern. On December 12, 2025, I was in a head on car accident in my 2021 Toyota Corolla nightshade. I was slammed into the steering wheel which caused injury. My car has over $14,000 worth of damage to the front yet my airbags did not deploy. I have taken my car to Toyota several times over the past few years and every time I’ve asked about a remedy for this recall I’ve been told there is no remedy as early as June or July 2025 I had to bring my car in for a manufacturer defect with the engine that Toyota fixed for free. I asked them about the recall on the airbags. They again told me there was no remedy.

Driving on highway around 65mph, car shut down internally completely blacking out inside. Turned back on a few seconds later while still driving all lights were blinking. Pushed the SOS no-one answered pushed again then someone came on. Matches the same description on the other 2025-26 hybrids in the corolla cross and camry hybrid.

2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Touchscreen/Infotainment Display randomly shut down while driving without warning and no longer functions. This could not be reset by holding the power button or disconnecting the vehicle battery. The backup camera still works, and the radio can be heard when the power button is pressed, but the display remains on a black screen and none of the controls on the steering wheel or headunit work. At night, the lights on the buttons for the multimedia display turn on and off every 10 seconds which is extremely distracting and has the potential to cause an accident. This defective part serves as a safety issue, as this is where critical maintenance and hybrid battery power related errors displayed. In addition there are many critical controls locked behind the screen related to door locks, hybrid battery usage, and other vehicle controls, as well as personal data that may now be at risk and unable to be able to be deleted. Vehicle was inspected by a Lia Toyota of Rockland Dealership Service department and determined to be a faulty display, requiring a compete unit replacement. The quoted cost is $2500, and despite my car having only 35500 miles, this is not covered under any warranty due to being outside the 36 month time window. The multimedia display in this car is a critical component and is just as vital to the car as the engine/transmission. It is a shame that Toyota reliability is a thing of the past.
