[XXX] MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE FOUR DOOR AUTOMATIC SEDAN HAS INTERMITTENT ERRATIC PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL: THE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE TACHOMETER, THERMOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES BOUNCE UP AND DOWN THE EVENTS LAST FOR A FEW SECONDS TO TEN MINUTES, EPISODES OCCUR SPORADICALLY AND THE CAR CONTINUES TO DRIVE NORMALLY DURING THE EVENTS. I CALLED TOYOTA (800) 331-4331 AND ASKED FOR A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, DENIED BY TOYOTA. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. ON JULY 1, 2015, CENTRAL FLORIDA TOYOTA IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA TRIED TO CHARGE ME $59.00, I REFUSED TO PAY AND THEY EVENTUALLY PROCEEDED TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE GIVEN TO ME SAYS, "$2,217.05 FOR ABS ACTUATOR ASSY., R&R.? THE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS SERIOUS; THE BRAKES CAN LOCK UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BUT TOYOTA CORPORATE SAID THIS PROBLEM IS NOT SUBJECT TO A RECALL OR A REPORTED PROBLEM. (JUST GOOGLE, "2007 TOYOTA CAMRY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON". CONSUMER COMPLAINANTS ALLEGE THAT THE BOSCH ABS ECU HAS A FLAW IN CIRCUIT BOARD DESIGN.) THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM AND SO COMMON AS TO INDICATE THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED FREE BY TOYOTA. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STALLED, I STEERED IT TO THE ROADSIDE TO CALL FOR A TOW. SPEAKING WITH INSURANCE TOW SERVICE THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE UNDER THE HOOD. AS I SUPPLIED INFORMATION THE SMOKE VOLUME INCREASED FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE UNDER THE HOOD. SMOKE VOLUME CONTINUED TO INCREASE AND A CRACKLING/BURNING SOUND STARTED. I TOLD THE AGENT I HAVE TO GO AND CALLED 911. I SUPPLIED DETAILS OF THE AREA WHERE THE INCREASING SMOKE WAS COMING FROM, THE CAR LOCATION AND MY STATUS. IN THE CAR I PULLED THE HOOD LEVER, WENT OUTSIDE AND STOPPED SHORT OF OPENING THE HOOD. REALIZING I HAD NO MEANS TO PUT OUT THE INCREASING FIRE I HAD TO WATCH MY CAR BURN UNTIL FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED. I WALK A DISTANCE AWAY AND WAITED, WHILE THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WENT UP IN SMOKE....UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF UPDATED 11/06/2017*CN

13V442000 · Air Bags; Electrical System; Equipment:appliance:air Conditioner

Oct 17, 2013

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

SUMMARY: TOYOTA RECOVERED SOME FAILED IGNITION CONTROL MODULES FROM THEFIELD. INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT A SOLDER JOINT IN THE POWER TRANSISTOROF THE MODULE WAS SUBJECT TO FAILURE. BECAUSE THE PART IS AN EMISSIONRELATED COMPONENT A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS CONDUCTED.THE PREDOMINANT MODE OF FAILURE IS AN INABILITY TO START THE ENGINE,ALTHOUGH A STALLED CONDITION CAN OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.SINCE THE REPORTED OCCURENCE OF ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS SMALL, AND THEREPAIR IS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN, THELIKLEHOOD OF FURTHER ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS REMOTE.===
