2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid

System operates normally on initial speed setting, when the brake pedal is applied which cancels the cruise control (which is normal) problem arises when resetting the cruise control, by pressing the + R in order to re-set the cruise control, nothing happens, so I have to press the button again to re-engage the system. The problem is intermittent but it always seems to happen when there is a car behind me.

While parallel parked in front of a school, I exited the parking space and entered the roadway. I was straightening the vehicle after exiting the parking space and had my foot on the brake. When I lifted my foot from the brake, before I intentionally applied the accelerator, the vehicle began accelerating. There was no noticeable jerking or lurching. The acceleration was smooth and continuous, as if the accelerator pedal had been pressed. I immediately applied the brake and was able to regain control of the vehicle. This was an unexpected acceleration event and was extremely concerning because I was in a school zone/student pickup area. Had this occurred only a few minutes later, there would typically have been lots of pedestrians, primarily children, in the immediate area. Although there was no collision or injury, I believe the unexpected acceleration created a serious safety hazard. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the Toyota dealer. I have an appointment scheduled for this afternoon (8/26/26 @ 2pm EDT). I will provide NHTSA with the dealer's findings when available. IS SCHEDULED FOR LATER TODAY WITH TOYOTA. HOWEVER, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO

On August 15, the car with 55611 miles the car gave the error Power Steering malfunction. Steering power low. Also lights indicating cruise control, lane departure and collision warnings have been disabled. On August 17, I drove the vehicle to the Toyota dealership where I purchased it and they gave me a quote for $5492.72 to fix the issue because it was out of warranty and I did not buy an extended warranty. I took the vehicle home and parked it. Steering the vehicle is extremely hard and all safety features ADAS are disabled.

On April 28 at 9:35AM I was exiting the parking lot in my 2025 Toyota Camry and I experienced a sudden and unintended surge of acceleration. My foot was not on the accelerator. I was coasting with foot off accelerator to exit parking lot at a speed of under 8mph when the car suddenly jerked forward and surged to 30mph. The car came to a sudden stop in the middle of the road after running stop sign and exiting the parking lot without driver input. I was jerked forward after driving very fast over a very large curb.

Several times when I have honked my horn on my 2025 Camry SE cruise control has engaged. That is a dangerous situation if I'm trying to avoid a slow vehicle or accident and the vehicle goes into cruise control mode. Not sure what Toyota can do about this as the cruise control buttons are on the right side of the steering wheel behind the horn. Maybe it is overlapping or too close. There are auto braking cruise control options with the Camry but there is also a disengage non control mode that could lead to that accident.

The contact owns a 2025 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while pulling into the garage, the brake pedal was applied but failed to respond. The vehicle jerked forward with unattended acceleration and crashed into the wall. The wall of the garage was damaged due to the impact. There were no warning lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but they were unable to determine the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The manufacturer will be sending a special inspector to inspect the vehicle and check the EDR box. The failure mileage was approximately 7,100.

1. 9/7/2024, Emergency braking activated at 65 mph while merging onto Interstate. No cars immediately in front of me. Stopped dead in travel route for about 2 minutes then restarted.(route 42 and 95 North) 2. Resulted in a near miss to several rear end collisions. 3. Will take to dealer 9/9/2024. 4. No warning or prior phantom braking.
