Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2005-2024 X3-45, 2017-2019 and 2021-2023 X3-45 Commuter, 2006-2007, 2014, and 2018 H3-41, 2005-2020 and 2022-2024 H3-45, and 2019 H3-45 VIP buses equipped with a wheelchair lift. The wheelchair platform bridging device may be too steep, which can cause the wheelchair to become unstable. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 403, "Platform Lift Devices" and 404, "Platform Lift Installations."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An unstable wheelchair increases the risk of injury to lift occupants.
Remedy: Prevost will replace the wheelchair lift bridging device, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 25, 2025. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR24-26.

Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2023 H3-45 and 2022-2023 H3-45 VIP vehicles. The steering column joints may fail, causing a loss of steering control.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the repair has been performed. Prevost will replace the steering column joints, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 19, 2024. Owners may contact Provost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR24-11.

Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2014 and 2018 H3-41, 2013-2024 H3-45, 2012-2024 X3-45, and 2017-2023 X3-45 Commuter vehicles. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Prevost will replace the red beacons, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 16, 2024. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR24-03.

Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2023-2024 H3-45 and 2022-2024 H3-45 VIP vehicles. The right front turn signal light may fail when the turn signal or hazard warning lights are activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inoperative front turn signal may not notify other drivers of a turning vehicle, while inoperative hazard warning lights reduce the vehicle visibility to other drivers, both increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Prevost will install enhanced headlight wiring that includes additional resistors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR23-19.

Consequence: An emergency exit that requires excessive force to open may prevent or delay use of the exit, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an emergency.

Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2018-2023 H3-45 motor coaches and H3-45 VIP motorhomes, and 2019 H3-41 motor coaches. The Automatic Fire Suppression System (AFSS) optical fire sensor positioned in the engine compartment's lower region may corrode and malfunction. In this event, the AFSS may give a false warning to the driver, command an unwarranted engine shutdown, and release a chemical fire extinguishing agent in the engine compartment.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The activation of the Automatic Fire Suppression System can cause a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a disabled coach may require an evacuation procedure in an uncontrolled traffic situation, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
Remedy: Prevost will inspect the vehicles, install spacers between the optical fire sensor and bracket, and replace the optical fire sensor, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 8, 2023. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR23-05.

NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation after reviewing field reports concerning alternator front bearing failures that cause elevated temperatures within the engine compartment, resulting in the fire suppression system (FSS) activating, immediately shutting the engine down, and rendering the bus inoperable.Analysis of the data provided by Prevost Car (US) Inc. showed high failure frequency and thermal events. An immediate shutdown of the bus can increase the risk of a crash or injury of bus occupants. In response to this investigation, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation decided to conduct recalls 22V-221 and 22V-222. By submitting Part 573 Defect Information Reports on April 6, 2022, Prevost Car (US) Inc. and Volvo Bus Corporation notified ODI of a safety defect in certain model year (MY) 2010-2023 Prevost H3-45; X3-45; X3-45 Com; H3-45 VIP: X3-45 VIP and 2020 Volvo 9700 vehicles; some of these buses may have experienced thermal events after failure of the alternator front bearing, because the alternator belt continues to turn the alternator after the bearing failure.These recall actions address the safety concern that led to the opening of this investigation.Therefore, with these recall actions, this investigation is closed.
