THE DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL WILL ACCELERATE WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE STARTS TO ENTER THE LANE IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IT WILL EVENTUALLY FULLY DETECT THE VEHICLE AND DECELERATE, BUT I USUALLY HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO PREVENT FROM GETTING TOO CLOSE TO THE RECENTLY MERGED CAR.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2018 NISSAN ROGUE TO WORK ON A SUNNY FLORIDA MORNING, I EXPERIENCED A TECHNICAL ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE AROUND 8:00 AM EST. WHILE SLOWING DOWN APPLYING MY BRAKES AS I APPROACHED A MAJOR INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC, MY ROGUE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN ACCORD CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. DURING THE ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE'S ONBOARD AUTOMATED EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM WAS SOUNDING ALARMS BUT DID NOT BRAKE THE VEHICLE. INSTEAD IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATED INSTEAD. A LOUD GRINDING SOUND COULD BE HEARD AT THE POINT OF IMPACT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND FOR ABOUT A SECOND OR SO AFTERWARDS. THANKFULLY THE SPEED WAS LOW ONLY RESULTING IN MINOR BODY DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE.*DT *TP THE END RESULT WAS I SUSTAINED MULTIPLE BACK INJURIES - LOWER AND NECK REGIONS SIMULTANEOUSLY. I SUSPECT THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT I WENT FROM SLOWING DOWN TO SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THEN FINALLY TO FULL SUDDEN STOP. THANKFULLY, I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN MY VEHICLE. ALL OF THIS WAS CAUGHT ON MY DASH CAMERA INCLUDING THE SOUNDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO BILL RAY NISSAN IN LONGWOOD, FL WHICH WERE UNABLE TO PULL ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. WHEN DEPRESSING A BRAKE TO SLOW A VEHICLE DOWN, THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I WILL BE GLAD TO SUBMIT A COPY OF THE DASH CAMERA FOOTAGE FOR REVIEW. *DT*JB *DT *TP*DT*TP*DT*DT CONSUMER SUBMITTED VIDEO AND TRANSCRIPT.*JB*DAD THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE.*JP THE CONSUMER STATED THE BATTERY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE BATTERY HAD A LOW VOLTAGE.

BOUGHT THIS CAR BE WITH 42 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT IT THE AEB SYSTEM STARTED ACTIVATING AND SLAMMING THE BRAKES WHEN NOTHING WAS IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD NEVER HAD A CAR WITH THIS FEATURE BEFORE. I LATER GOT A NOTICE TO BRING IT IN TO A DEAL FOR AN UPDATE BEFORE THE WARRANTY WENT OUT. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAS BEGUN DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING 65 ON THE INTERSTATE WITH NO TRAFFIC OR OBSTACLES IN FRONT OF ME. THE WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF THEN IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATES THE BRAKES SLOWING ME DOWN TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. THANKFULLY THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO REACT IN TIME TO SWERVE AND MISS ME. I GOT TJE ONE FINGER SALUTE FROM THE DRIVER OF THAT VEHICLE. IT IS NOW HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER UPDATE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THAT RIGHT NOW. ANYWAY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED WHEN THEY DID THE FIRST UPDATE ON THE AEB SOFTWARE. PURCHASES FROM BENTON NISSAN IN BESSEMER, AL BUT HAVE HAD ALL SERVICE PERFORMED BY SIERRA NISSAN OF SYLACAUGA,AL. BUT I HAVE QUIT UTILIZING SERRA NISSA SINCE THEY PUT THE WRONG TYPE OF OIL IN MY CAR AND REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMITTED TO THE MISTAKE ALSO IT WAS PRINTED THE SERVIVE RECEIPT AS PROOF THAT THEY OIL THEY USES WAS INCORRECT.

WHILE DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY ON A CITY STREET MY CAR SUDDENLY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING UNDER A HIGHWAY OVERPASS. IT DID THIS ON IT'S OWN IN CLEAR WEATHER WHILE IN MOTION. IT APPEARED THE CAR REACTED ON IT'S OWN TO THE SHADOW OF THE HIGHWAY I WAS ABOUT TO DRIVE UNDER. THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND I IN FACT WAS ABOUT TO ACCELERATE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AFTER GOING UNDER THE OVERPASS. THE CAR BRAKES SUDDENLY WHEN GOING INTO THE SHADOW OF THE OVERPASS. IT STARTLED ME AND MY AUTOMATIC REACTION WAS TO SWITCH MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE AND WHEN I DID I COULD FEEL THE BRAKE WAS ALREADY DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR BRIEFLY STOPPED AND THEN THE BRAKE LET UP AND I THEN COULD CONTINUE DRIVING A COUPLE SECONDS LATER. IT WAS SCARY AND DANGEROUS. SOMEONE COULD'VE BEEN BEHIND ME AND HIT ME. I WAS RATTLED FOR 30 MINUTES AFTERWARD. I AM UNSURE OF THE EXACT DATE THIS OCCURRED BUT I GAVE THE BEST ESTIMATE I COULD DOWN BELOW.
THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM CAME ON BRIEFLY ABOUT A WEEK AGO FOR NO REASON, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON A QUIET CITY STREET. THE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. SINCE THEN, IT HAS HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES, BUT MUCH WORSE. EACH TIME I WAS IN MOTION, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, BUT NOT EXCEEDING 45 MPH. YESTERDAY I WAS GOING UP A SLI…

YESTERDAY I WAS GOING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON A STREET BY MY HOUSE, AND THE AEB CAME ON HARD. THERE WAS NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. VISIBILITY WAS PERFECT. ONLY 2 BLOCKS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT CAUSED ME TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY FOREARM, WHICH IS NOW SORE, AND A CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES. NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR, WHICH I JUST BOUGHT IN JULY. I'M WONDERING HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAPPENED BEFORE PURCHASING THE CAR FROM THE DEALER.

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking
NHTSA received a defect petition (DP19-001) from the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) on March 21, 2019 alleging that the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system on Model Year (MY) 2017-2018 Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport vehicles was engaging in cases where there was no obstruction in the path of the vehicle. The CAS petition additionally alleges that, based on Nissan's actions, the manufacturer is aware of the issue due to issuing a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) launching two "Quality Actions," and initiating a "Customer Service Initiative" in relation to it. CAS contends that Nissan's actions do not represent an adequate long-term solution to the problem, as the action is only available during the basic coverage period of the warranty. CAS also argues that the alleged failures are an unreasonable risk to safety and views Nissan's communications as not acknowledging the potential safety issue involved, instead treating the alleged problem as a performance update. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 129 unique subject vehicle reports (for all submission dates) alleging a false positive triggering of AEB. Of these complaints, three were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system, and all three indicating related injuries. In response to ODI's April 15, 2019 Information Request letter, Nissan provided data indicating that it has received 750 unique subject vehicle complaints relating to false positive activation of the AEB system. Of these complaints, 12 were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system. Four complaints contained allegations of injuries, three of which were the result of a collision. These complaints included duplicates of complaints that ODI received. The injury allegations were limited to soft tissue type injuries such as whiplash and bruising.Based on its review of the information identified to date, ODI has granted the petition and is opening this preliminary evaluation in order to evaluate the cause, scope and frequency of AEB false positive activations, as well as to evaluate the suitability of the manufacturer's campaign to address the concern or improve performance of the AEB system.
