I PURCHASED MY PATHFINDER IN NOVEMBER 2012. AT ABOUT 1000 MILES INTO OWNERSHIP (LESS THAN A MONTH, MY VEHICLE STARTED SHUDDERING AND ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE FIRST SERVICE THEY TOLD ME THEY CHECKED FOR IT AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEN THEY ASKED ME TO BRING IT BACK IN FOR A COMPUTER UPDATE. IT STILL SHUDDERED. AT THE NEXT SERVICE REPEAT THE SAME SCENARIO AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING AGAIN. THE SHUDDER IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE AT THIS POINT. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK FOR THE 3RD SERVICE I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING AGAIN. REPEAT ONE MORE TIME IN 9/13 AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN ON 10/7 AND I PICKED IT UP ON 10/8. I LEFT FOR A BEACH 800 MILE TRIP ON 10/9 AND THE SHUDDERING IS STILL HAPPENING AND NOW WHEN I TURN MY WHEELS WHILE SLOWING DOWN (ENTERING MY GARAGE/BRAKING IN A CURVE) THE BRAKES WILL NOT HOLD AND THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE AS IF OUT OF CONTROL. IF I LEAVE IT RUNNING FOR A 10 OR SO MINUTES IN PARK THEN TRY TO PUT IT IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE TRIES TO SURGE AWAY FROM ME AS IF I CANNOT CONTROL IT UNLESS HOLDING THE BRAKES DOWN. LAST WEEK THE VEHICLE JUMPED ACROSS 2 LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC THEN QUIT. I QUICKLY STARTED IT AGAIN AND JUMPED INTO A PARKING LOT. THE DEALER PICKED IT UP AND TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. IN FACT THEY SAID IT WAS DRIVER ERROR. THE LAST I HEARD WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS THE CAR SHOULD GO AND WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKES THE CAR SHOULD STOP. IT IS NOW SITTING IN THE DEALER PARKING LOT BECAUSE I AM EXTREMELY AFRAID OF IT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST FINE AND TO COME AND GET IT. I ALMOST DIED LAST WEEK IN IT AND IT IS NOT SAFE. THE DEALER WILL NOT HELP ME NOR CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT NISSAN ARE HELPING ME. NO ONE SHOULD BE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. SO NOW I AM OUT $44,000 FOR AN UNSAFE CAR. *TR

TRANSMISSION SHUTTERING PROBLEM: TRAVELING ON LOS OSOS VALLEY ROAD, SLO CA. ACCELERATED OUT OF A TURN TO ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR; WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED 5 TO 6 TIMES. MINIMAL LOSS OF POWER, AND THEN RESUMED TO NORMAL. FEELS LIKE VEHICLE IS GOING OVER SPEED BUMS, BUT THERE ARE NONE. THIS 2013 PATHFINDER IS NEW, WITH 2200 MILES ON IT. THIS IS NOW THE FOURTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE SHUTTERING SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN COMING OUT OF TURNS, WHILE ACCELERATING UP TO 30-35 MILES PER HOUR. NISSAN NEEDS TO COME CLEAN ON THIS ISSUE. SO FAR, THEY ARE PLAYING "TAKE INTO A AUTHORIZE SERVICE DEALER". MOST LIKELY, NISSAN KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND IS HOPING THAT ALL NEW 2013 PATHFINDER OWNERS WILL ACT AS A "VEHICLE DELIVERY SERVICE" TO RESOLVE NISSAN TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. NOT QUITE. . *TR

I PURCHASED THE NISSAN PATHFINDER ON AUGUST 5, 2013. WITHIN 2 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUDDER WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 20-30 MILES PER HOUR AND SUDDENLY LOSE POWER. I TRIED DIFFERENT TYPES OF GASOLINE WITHOUT SUCCESS. I FINALLY BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 13. THEY SAID IT NEEDED A "SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION", THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART AND I COULD BRING IT BACK THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY. I BROUGHT IT IN ON WEDNESDAY. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE AN ALL DAY JOB. NEAR THE END OF THE DAY, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART DIDN'T FIT AND THEY HAD ORDERED ANOTHER ONE.IT WOULD BE IN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THEY ARRANGED FOR ME TO GET A RENTAL CAR. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR ANOTHER TEN DAYS. THEY CALLED FOR ME TO PICK IT UP. WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM THE RENTAL AGENCY, WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR IN THE CAR, IT DID IT AGAIN! THEY DID NOT OFFER ANOTHER RENTAL OR TO TAKE IT BACK AND FIX IT, SO I TOOK IT HOME. A WEEK LATER, THE SHUDDERING WAS SO BAD, THAT I TOOK IT BACK IN AGAIN. THEY ORDERED AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION (ANOTHER WEEK TO RECEIVE THE PART AND INSTALL IT). (WHY PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN A NEW CAR THAT ALREADY HAS A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT HAD BEEN REBUILT ONCE ALREADY WHEN THEY PUT IN THE TORQUE CONVERTER?) IT MAKES NO SENSE. MEANWHILE, I'M TERRIFIED TO HAVE TO TAKE THIS CAR BACK AGAIN. *TR

WHEN I STEPPED HARDER ON GAS PEDAL THE CAR HESITATED AND THEN WENT. IT FELT LIKE RUNNING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER IT DID IT AGAIN SO I CALLED DEALER CAUSE THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW. THEY SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND TO BRING IT IN 2 DAYS LATER ON WEDS 10/3/13. I ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE IT OR SHOULD I HAVE IT TOWED THEY SAID TO DRIVE IT. IT DID THE SAME THING MULTIPLE TIMES THAT DAY I WAS ABLE TO RECORD ONE EVENT ON AN IPHONE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER EARLY AS I DID NOT WANT TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH APPEARED TO BE SLIPPING AND BANGING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN THERE FOR MULTIPLE DAYS ALREADY AND THEY PREDICT AT LEAST TWO WEEKS AT WHICH TIME THEY PLAN TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANS. I SAID I WOULD NOT ACCEPT A USED PART/ REMANUFACTURED AS THE VEHICLE IS BRAND NEW AND WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW VEHICLE FOR A REASON I WANTED NEW NOT USED. WANTED NO PROBLEMS HUH THEY REFERRED ME TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY ARE REVIEWING THE ISSUE WITH THE DEALER AND WILL GET BACK TO ME 10/8/13 A WEEK HAS ALREADY PAST AND NO RESOLUTION. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO IN FOR SERVICE FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AS IT WAS DISPLAYED AT DELIVERY AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALER MINUTES AFTER DELIVERY AND WAS KEPT FOR 4 DAYS TO MAKE THAT REPAIR. ALL TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS IN SERVICE FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH AND APPEARS THAT IT WILL BE IN THE SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND NOT HAPPY WITH ANSWERS FROM NISSAN THUS FAR. *TR

22V420000 · Latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch

Jun 13, 2022

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Pathfinder vehicles. On certain Pathfinder vehicles, the secondary hood latch may malfunction and remain in the unlatched, unsecured, position when the hood is closed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An unsecured hood could unexpectedly open while driving, obstructing the driver's view, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the bell crank assembly, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 26, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall are R22A2 R22A3 and R24B7.

Jan 20, 2021

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles. The location of the brake light switch may cause the brake light switch relay to repeatedly open and close. Overtime, this can cause the relay to stick in the "ON" position, with the brake lights remaining illuminated even when the brakes are not applied. Additionally, this may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Continual illumination of the brake lights can prevent other drivers from realizing the vehicle is actually slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash. With the brake override activated, the driver will not be able to accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. The driver can shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, either re-install the brake light switch or swap positions with the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch; depending on the model year vehicle. In addition, the brake light relay will be replaced with a new one. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall PC786. Note: this recall supersedes 16V-380.

May 31, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Pathfinder vehicles manufactured June 20, 2012, to June 13, 2013. The brake light switch may have been installed incorrectly causing the relay to make intermittent contact and repeatedly cycle. This may result in the relay remaining in the "ON" position, causing the brake lights to remain illuminated even when the brakes are not applied. Additionally, the brake light switch may interfere with the brake-shift interlock, allowing the driver to shift the vehicle out of the "Park" position, without depressing the brake pedal.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the brake override is activated, the driver will not be accelerate normally, increasing the risk of a crash. If the brake lights remain illuminated, other drivers may fail to stop when the vehicle actually brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. If the driver inadvertently shift the vehicle out of the "PARK" position without depressing the brake, the vehicle may rollaway, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake light switch and, as necessary, replace the relay, free of charge. The recall began on July 25, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Apr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Latches/locks/linkages:hood:latch

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this preliminary evaluation to investigate consumer complaints alleging hood latch failures occurring on certain model year (MY) 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles. Complaints received indicated a sudden and unexpected opening of the hood while the vehicle was in motion, blocking the driver's visibility.During this investigation Nissan collected parts from the field to analyze for root cause of the alleged failures. On June 13, 2022, Nissan submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a hood bell crank assembly defect in certain MY2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles produced at the Smyrna, TN plant. According to Nissan's DIR, an accumulation of dust and dirt contamination on and around the bell crank lever pivot joint, which actuates the secondary hood latch, can create a condition that can cause the lever to remain in the open position after it has been disengaged. In this condition, the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion obstructing the driver's forward view and increasing the risk of a crash.A remedy plan for all affected vehicles is currently under development. See recall action 22V-420 for further details. Nissan's action resolves the issues raised by this investigation, and therefore, this investigation is closed. The VOQs cited above can be found with ID numbers: 11456378, 11448298, 11436637, 11431131, 11427702, 11423321, 11406574, 11398825, 11389741, 11387952, 11375938, 11349105,11306735, 11302647, 11190468, 11166607.

In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger's frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight.In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers.The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.In its June 2015 response to ODI's information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles.These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above.At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer).This Recall Query has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA15-004) to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers:10583283 10585264 10585349 10585379 10592434 10593399 10593501 10594329 10594614 10594755 10595161 10595645 10595946 10596128 10596459 10596952 10597037 10597452 10597518 10597719 10598537 10598869 10604755 10604834 10605188 10605251 10606565 10606828 10607038 10609649 10610519 10610991 10614467 10614609 10614745 10616905 10617008 10617507 10617903 10618099 10618202 10619059 10619563 10620719 10621840 10622214 10625808 10625981 10625998 10626006 10626023 10626335 10626458 10626732 10628355 10629382 10629460 10629606 10630441 10630502 10630990 10632251 10632588 10632934 10632997 10633714 10633810 10637994 10638591 10639040 10639147 10639324 10639473 10643046 10643843 10644203 10644333 10644341 10644690 10644891 10644985 10648834 10648997 10649414 10649772 10649874 10651360 10651564 10651924 10651982 10652024 10658665 10658844 10659484 10660294 10661195 10661358 10661541 10661795 10661855 10662901 10663033 10663338 10663860 10663978 10668054 10668768 10670538 10672807 10673088 10676471 10678478 10678997 10679512 10680748 10680769 10680975 10681656 10682235 10682902 10682993 10683391 10683689 10689672 10689809 10689981 10691626 10692137 10692558 10692625 10693168 10695312 10700614 10700960 10701008 10701011 10701014 10701018 10701023 10701027 10701031 10701032 10701035 10701045 10701055 10701064 10701074 10701146 10701196 10701228 10701237 10701254 10701301 10701306 10701326 10701367 10701370 10701384 10701415 10701453 10701526 10701558 10701656 10701670 10701946 10702003 10702667 10702798 10703032 10703657 10703766 10703813 10704196 10704988 10705530 10705919 10706621 10712543 10712568 10712575 10713335 10714316 10714330 10714536 10714980 10715132 10715945 10717336 10720918 10720971 10721331 10721746 10723424 10724568 10731167 10731868 10732012 10732065

On March 25, 2014, Nissan North America (Nissan) submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA describing a defect of inadequate hose clamping force that may result in the internal transmission oil cooler (ITOC) hose detaching from the cooler.According to Nissan, transmission fluid leakage from a detached ITOC hose results in a progressive series of symptoms beginning with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination, followed by noise and vibration and culminating in loss of power due to transmission failure. Many of the incident vehicle drivers interviewed by ODI indicated that the loss of power occurred soon after the first symptoms were observed. The recall covers approximately 3,065 Pathfinder vehicles built from the start of MY 2013 production on April 18, 2012, through October 3, 2012, when Nissan implemented several production improvements to address concerns with ITOC hose detachment.Infiniti JX vehicles investigated in PE13-029 are not included in the recall as they are equipped with a different CVT transmission with a lower operating pressure.Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified within 60 days to take their vehicles to a Nissan dealer. The dealer will install an oil hose repair kit at no charge to owners.ODI's analysis of failure data for the 3,065 Pathfinder vehicles that are included in Nissan's recall identified 12 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), 134 Nissan complaints and field reports and 259 warranty claims. This equates to a complaint/field report rate of 47.6 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) and a warranty claim rate of 8.5 percent. The failure rates for the 120,474 subject vehicles that are not included in the recall are much lower, with complaint rates of 0.4 and 0.8 IPTV and warranty claim rates of 0.1 and 0.2 percent for the remaining MY 2013 Pathfinder and JX vehicles, respectively. This investigation is closed. The VOQ numbers associated with this closing are: 10558389, 10556011, 10546402, 10545032, , 10531793, 10509314, 10507077, 10503884, 10500834, 10499362, 10497685, 10496606, 10494583, 10493759, 10493701, 10490959.
