When I put the car in park and push the push start/stop button, the car shuts off but the accessories and middle console display stay on. I have to keep shifting the car between the park position and the drive position before I put it back to the park position for the car to completely shut-off. This car is available for inspection. As far as safety is concerned, the only thing I can think of is that if the car does not completely shut off the battery would drain and not be able to start the car. I took the car to my mechanic and he said that I need to take it to the dealer. The dealer was informed and the dealer said that it was not a recall. The car was only inspected by my mechanic. There were no warning lights or messages in the car or symptoms prior to this happening.

The vehicle wont shut completely off when you press the start/stop button after shifting into "Park". The relay that tells the car it's in Park is faulty and the car wont shut off all the way. I was at a doctor's office and their parking lot has a large slope. I parked facing up the slope and applied the parking brake. When I exited the vehicle, I felt the vehicle slowly sliding backwards. I pushed rearward on the car to check if the brakes were holding which accelerated the roll. I jumped back in the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal to stop the roll. I replaced the rear brake pads and noticed extremely uneven wear. Additionally, the left-rear caliper parking brake actuator was bound-up and wouldn't function. I exercised the actuator to loosen it up a bit which should be just enough until I can order the part. I experienced this same issue with my parking brake in 2017. In 2017, I took the car to the dealer who replace the rear brake calipers under recall 17V393000. I called the dealer today 8/16/2022 and they stated the calipers cannot be replaced under warranty or recall again. I find it extremely disturbing that the parking brake would experience such an extreme failure twice in the 8 years I've owned this vehicle. In 2017, the parking brake released suddenly while the car was unattended sending the car down my 100ft driveway, glancing my house and crashing through a wooden fence before stopping. Luckily, this time (2022), I know of the prior issue and can be proactive about replacing the faulty part. These calipers need a redesign where the calipers can last more than 5 years before such a safety failure... or that the parking brake not functioning while unattended isn't the first indication of failure.

17V393000 · Parking Brake

Jun 22, 2017

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Mazda6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles. Water could possibly enter the brake caliper causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode and possibly bind.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will check the parking brake actuator shafts, replacing any that are corroded, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed August 24, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1217F.

14V675000 · Tires:pressure Monitoring And Regulating Systems

Oct 27, 2014

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, to October 10, 2014. If the pressures of four of the tires on an affected vehicle gradually drop at the same time, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may not warn the driver of the drop in pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A vehicle that is driven with under inflated tires may experience a sudden tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS software, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

14V170000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly

Apr 3, 2014

Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, through May 9, 2013. In the affected vehicles, it is possible to fill the fuel tank beyond its rated capacity.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the tank is overfilled, gas may flow into the charcoal canister (an evaporative emissions component) and possibly leak from the canister's external vent, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Mazda will notify owners and dealers will inspect and add an adapter to the shut off valve in the fuel tank and also inspect the charcoal canister for the presence of gasoline, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7414D.

14V173000 · Electrical System:alternator/generator/regulator

Apr 3, 2014

Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through December 18, 2013, and model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured May 20, 2013, through December 4, 2013, and both equipped with a 2.5L engine and a regenerative engine braking system. When driving the affected vehicles in heavy rain or in deep puddles, the alternator belt may slip causing the Power Control module (PCM) to incorrectly assume failure of the charging system.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Once the PCM assumes that the charging system has failed, the vehicle will stop charging and could result in poor acceleration, loss of steering assist and windshield wiper operation, and a possible engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the PCM with updated software, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7314D.
