While driving on the highway, traffic suddenly stopped in front of me and I had to brake harder than normal. During braking, the front winch post support on the trailer failed due to a defective weld, causing the jet ski to shift out of position. The jet ski remained attached only because of the rear safety straps I had installed. The failure also caused damage to the bottom hull paint/gel coat. After inspection, the weld appears to have had poor penetration and improper preparation between the metal pieces, indicating a manufacturing defect. This created a serious highway safety hazard and could have resulted in a catastrophic accident involving other vehicles.
