2018 Jayco Travel Trailer Eagle

I was troubleshooting a short in the electrical trailer brake circuit and found the cause: the wire had fallen into a crack in the frame crossmember which was chewing on it. Upon further examination, several frame stiffeners/crossmembers had cracked almost entirely through on both sides of the trailer. They cracked because during manufacturing, some goober decided it'd be a good idea to cut 95% of the web of the C-channel away to make holes 10x as large as they needed to be to run wires and slide motors. According to the original owner, he took it from IN to FL twice and I put about 3k miles on it according to my records so it only has maybe 10k miles. Looking at the amount of rust and condition of the paint compared to the rest of the underside of the camper, it looks to have been broken almost as long as the rest of the camper. This issue HAS resulted in the loss of trailer braking on a 13k lb GVWR camper. This issue does cause loss of stiffness in the frame that COULD result in excessive flex causing damage to the camper while going down the road up to catastrophic failure of the frame.

The vehicle is a Fifth Wheel RV. Jayco Eagle HT 27.5 2018. The frame cracked, welds broke suspension/springs/equalizers where all compromised and the unit started swaying dangerously on the Interstate. Thankfully we managed to get off the highway without the unit falling over and causing catastrophic damage to us or those around us. The speed limit on the section of the highway is 80 miles an hour. Every semi that passed us almost pushed the rig over. An RV dealership in Salt Lake City still has our rig and have now finished the repairs. The Frame Manufacturer, Lippert have done most of the repairs and the dealership the rest. The rig was inspected and photographed and we have a repair report. There are many documented case of the manufacturing defect and there is an absolute danger of serious injury or death because these units have not been recalled. I can provide you with whatever detail may help to save someone else from having this happen to them.

I am a ASE Master Mechanic and I do my own servicing. Recently I had some bad tires and bought new ones. Since I had the wheels off, I performed a wheel bearing and brake inspection. The rear left wheel had some small wobbling. When I took off the bearing cap I noticed hardly any grease. I took the hub off and there was hardly any grease on the inside bearing also. And I do mean hardly. It was like someone used a ½ teaspoon of grease for the 2 bearings. The outside bearing was so loose it almost fell apart in my hand. Upon further inspection I noticed the outside bearing and axel shaft showed some heat stress and the bearing race was loose. I changed the bearing and race. Repacked with grease and reassembled. Then noticed the rear axel aft shackel was broken from the frame. The wobbling wheel must have caused excess vibration, cracking the welds. The spring was pushed up against the frame. I cleaned up the area and rewelded shackle to the frame. I moved to the right side. After inspecting, bearings were good. Greased and reinstalled. I realize that buying axels, they are already assembled. But somebody should have removed the caps and checked for proper greasing prior to installing on the trailer. I do not use the trailer that often. But, those that do use their trailer often, may cause an issue later down the road before their first bearing repack could be performed.

2018 Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel- Consumer writing in about the safety recall # 21V-685 for the Winntec propane regulator, the parts were not avail. for a length of time. By the time the parts became avail. through dealer, consumers unit had been tied down & skirted in a RV park & couldn't be moved to be taken to a dealer for the defective part replacement. Consumer hired a mobile service tech to make and replace defective part. Consumer was told they could request a reimbursement. Consumer contacted Jayco customer service & was told that they couldn't be reimbursed. Consumer would like a review of the recall notice, repair invoice, & photo's attached and info on how to get reimbursed.

The contact owns a 2018 Jayco Eagle RV. The contact stated while he was outside of the RV, he heard an abnormally loud sound. The contact stated that he did not see a fire nor smoke. The contact stated when he entered the RV and noticed that the glass above the stove was broken. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V685000 (Equipment) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2018 Jayco Eagle. The contact stated that the odor of propane fuel was present inside and outside of the trailer whether one or both propane tanks were opened. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V685000 (Equipment) however, after contacting the manufacturer, the contact was informed that the regulator numbered N-17-41 was not included in the recall. The contact indicated that the same failure listed in the recall had occurred. The failure mileage was unknown.

Jayco sent a recall notice August 2021 for my RV saying that my RV may have an issue related to its "Winntec Model 6020 propane regulator" and to contact an authorized dealer asap. It is Safety Recall Jayco NHTSA# 21V-425. I reached out to my local Jayco authorized repair center Pete's RV, in CT. They provided no response. Later, Jayco reached out and said that service centers were overwhelmed with the response to their recall and to send the service center a photo of the propane regulator so they could check to see if our model was affected. I reached out again to Pete's RV in CT on 9/28 with an email including a photo of the regulator. I got a reply back saying thanks for contacting us, it may take awhile for us to get back to you. As of December 31st, I have not heard back about my recall for my Jayco camper. I have little faith at this point that this problem will be remedied and do not feel like the authorized service center nor Jayco is equipped to solve the problem. Please help.
