SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AT FREEWAY SPEED. DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEED LATE AT NIGHT WITH ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON, I ACCELERATED AND CHANGED LANES TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH AN INATTENTIVE DRIVER. IMMEDIATELY AFTER CHANGING LANES TO THE RIGHT TO RETURN TO MY LANE, THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THROTTLE INPUT. RPM GRADUALLY DECREASED TO ZERO AND THE CAR STALLED. NO WARNING LIGHTS UNTIL THE ENGINE STOPPED AT THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS. THE CAR ENTERED A LIMP-HOME MODE WITH MAX RPM AROUND 1500, VERY SLOW ACCELERATION, MAX SPEED ABOUT 50 MPH. IT DID NOT STALL AGAIN DURING THE 10 MILE TRIP HOME. TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER STATES THAT THE OBD2 FAULT CODE WAS P1230, LOW FUEL PRESSURE. THE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE CAR AND REPRODUCED THE BEHAVIOR. INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS "FAILURE OF HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP." TODAY (5 DAYS AFTER INCIDENT) THE DEALER STATES THAT HYUNDAI TECH SUPPORT RECOMMENDS ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTICS PRIOR TO REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Genesis, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, Genesis G90, and 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles. Water may enter the starter solenoid and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will install a remedy relay kit in the engine junction box, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 254(H) and 018G(G).

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Genesis and 2017-2020 Genesis G80 vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module could malfunction and short circuit.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An electrical short circuit inside the ABS module could cause an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy is complete. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS module fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 6, 2021. Owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 201 and 006G.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Sonata and Genesis vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the warning light to indicate that the parking brake is applied may intermittently not illuminate in the dash due to corrosion in the switch.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the parking brake indicator is not illuminated when the parking brake is applied, the driver may operate the vehicle with the parking brake partially engaged, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake switch, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 164.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received eight Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) and eight Kia America, Inc. (Kia) Part 573 Recall Reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (ABS) modules or Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) manufactured by the equipment supplier Mando. The Part 573 Recall Reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by Mando. Safety recalls included in this Audit Query (AQ) review include: Hyundai recalls 20V-520, 20V-543, 21V-161, 21V-160, 21V-303, 22V-056, 22V-810, and 23V-651. Kia recalls 16V-815, 20V-518, 20V-519, 21V-137, 21V-331, 22V-051, 22V-800, and 23V-652 The purpose of this AQ is to evaluate the timeliness and scoping of Hyundai and Kia’s defect decision making and adherence with reporting requirements; and understand the varying defect descriptions and remedies between these recalls.
