MY VEHICLE, A 2017 HONDA CRV EX-L HAS A 1.5 LITER TURBO ENGINE WITH APPROXIMATELY 148,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR FLUID AND OIL CHANGES. SEVERAL DAYS AGO MY CRV BEGAN LURCHING WITH A MISFIRE, FIRST THE POWER WAS GREATLY REDUCED AND THEN THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THEN ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I HAVE ON OCCASION SMELLED A GAS TYPE SMELL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. A FRIEND HAS A OBD11 READER AND MY ENGINE SHOWED A P 0304 CODE WHICH IS A CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE AND A P 2097 CODE WHICH IS A POST CATALYTIC CONVERTER TOO RICH WARNING. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO LUTE RILEY HONDA IN RICHARDSON, TX AND A WARRANTY SERVICE WAS PERFORMED THAT I UNDERSTAND IS A RESETTING OF ENGINE CODES AND A HVAC CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED. UPON PICKING THE VEHICLE UP AFTER DRIVING JUST A FEW MILES THE ENGINE LURCHING RETURNED AND ULTIMATELY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER WAS REDUCED TO ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAPPENED IN AN INTERSECTION AND WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF AND STOP THE ENGINE. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND WITH NO ENGINE LIGHT ON DROVE VERY SLOWLY TO MY HOME. I PLAN ON TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER IN THE MORNING.

I WAS TOLD IT'S NORMAL IN NEW CAR DURING THE BREAKIN PROCESS AND EVENTUALLY IT'LL GO AWAY. NOW IT'S EVEN WORSE AT ABOVE 50K MILES AND THEY'RE ASKING FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES. CAR ALSO HAS FUEL AND OIL MIXING ISSUE WHICH I BROUGHT IT UP ON MY RECENT VISIT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THEY'LL NEED TO DRAIN THE OIL AND REFILL WITH NEW OIL AND FILTER TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE. WHILE THEY WERE TAKING OUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PRESENCE OF FUEL BUT THE SMELL OF FUEL IN ENGINE OIL IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THERE'S BEEN TIME WHERE VEHICLE WILL BE STUCK IN HIGH RPM WHEN ON HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED DURING HIGH SPEED. AND EVENTUALLY IT'LL SHIFT THE GEAR AFTER 5-10 SECONDS AND BRING DOWN THE RPM. SMELL IS ALSO NOTICED DURING FIRST START IN MORNINGS SPECIALLY NOW SINCE IT'S WINTER.

BATTERY RUNS DOWN. PUT NEW BATTERY...SAME PROBLEM. NEED A JUMP TO START FOR ME TO DRIVE. BATTERY RUNS DOWN IF IT SITS FOR A DAY PROBLEM STEERING AFTER IT IS JUMPED. ALL ALERTS ARE ON THEN DISAPPEARS AFTER BATTERY RESETS COMPONENTS ON ITS OWN. ALERTS FOR STABILIZATION, BREAKING STABILIZATION AND MORE TURNS ON WHEN DRIVING. WENT OVER PROBLEMS WITH A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC. TROUBLE SHOOTING EVERYTHING AND CONCLUDING SOMETHING IN ELECTRICAL THAT DOESN'T TURN OFF AND RUNS NEW BATTERY DOWN WHEN ENGINE IS OFF. OIL CAP SMELLS LIKE GAS FUEL. HONDA MECHANIC TOLD ME ON THE SPOT IT COULD BE THIS OR THAT EVEN WHEN I SAID THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THAT NOTED ON WEBSITES. CAR AT HONDA DEALERSHIP GETTING "FIXED"....TOLD ME IT IS THE ALTERNATOR, BUT CAR ENGINE DOESN'T STOP OR SHUTS OFF WHEN IT IS JUMPED AND DRIVEN. WE ALSO HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WHERE THE ALERT WARNING ALARM TURNING ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY INDICATING THERE IS AN OBJECT IN FRONT OR SIDE WHEN THERE IS NOTHING THERE. THOSE ISSUES BEGAN HAPPENING BEFORE I HAD THESE RECENT BATTERY PROBLEMS (6 MONTHS BEFORE ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY). I ALSO RECALL THAT IN THE FALL OF 2018 THAT THE OBJECT ALERT TURNED ON A COUPLE OF TIMES DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. MY DAUGHTER ALSO HAS EXPERIENCE THIS WHILE DRIVING BOTH HIGHWAY AND TOWN STREET. MECHANIC FROM HONDA IS NOT ADDRESSING THE SMELL OF GAS IN OIL CAP EVEN WITH INFORMATION I TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM NOTED WITH PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS. HASN'T LOOKED INTO IT SINCE MY CAR HAS BEEN THERE FOR A DAY AND HALF.

I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE 1 YR AND A FEW MONTHS AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WIPED OUT AND THE SOFTWARE REINSTALLED MORE THAN 2X DUE TO 'PROBLEM' DASH LIGHTS ALL OF THE SUDDEN SCROLLING;ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM, ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE HOLD SYSTEM PROBLEM, TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR PROBLEM, EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM, POWER STEERING SYSTEM PROBLEM, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM, ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM, ECT. THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THIS CHAOS, BUT THE PROBLEMS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT IN MAY2019. AT ONE TIME THE COMPUTER WOULD CLEAR ITSELF OUT AND I COULD RIDE AROUND FOR A DAY OR TWO WITHOUT ALL THESE LIGHTS FLASHING. THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE. THESE SCROLLING PROBLEM LIGHTS OCCUR AFTER I'VE BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD BUT NOW THEY COME ON IMMEDIATELY WHEN I TURN ON THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THIS AND MONTHS AGO, WHEN I WAS ROUNDING A CORNER ON THE FREEWAY ALL THE SUDDEN THE BRAKE ASSIST ENGAGED AS IF I WAS TOO CLOSE TO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS QUITE A JOLT. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS OCTOBER/NOVEMBER. 2019. THIS EVENING I GOT MY OIL CHANGED AND THE MECHANIC FOUND GAS IN MY OIL; I MENTIONED A GAS ODOR LAST WINTER TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR OIL CHANGE. THEY BASICALLY BLEW IT OFF. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT NOW. IN FACT I EVEN SAVED SOME OF THE OIL THAT CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE TO SHOW MY HUSBAND WHEN HE GETS HOME. I HAVE USED TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS THUS FAR BECAUSE OF WORKMANSHIP ISSUES AT THE FIRST DEALERSHIP. NOW DEALERSHIP NUMBER TWO DOES NOT EVEN WANT TO TOUCH MY VEHICLE.

2017 HONDA CRV LX. I PULLED OIL DIP STICK TO CHECK OIL AND IT SMELLED LIKE STRAIGHT GASOLINE. SO I UNSCREWED OIL CAP SAME THING. NO OIL SMELL JUST GAS. I THEN CONTACTED A LOCAL GARAGE IN MY AREA AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY SAID THERE'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE THERE SHOULD BE NO GAS IN THE OIL. I THEN CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALER IN MY AREA AND THEY SCHEDULED ME AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THE MECHANIC I TALKED TO SAID THEIR SHOULDN'T BE GAS IN THE OIL. WHEN I ARRIVED TO MY APPOINTMENT THE MECHANIC I TALKED TO WASN'T WORKING AND THEY GAVE ME ANOTHER HONDA MECHANIC. I EXPLAINED MY CONCERN AND THE FIRST MECHANIC I TALKED TO CONCERNS AND WHAT HE SAID TO ME ON THE PHONE. THEY THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE TO LOOK AT IT. THE MECHANIC CAME OUT AND SAID HE CHANGED THE OIL FOR US AND ASSURED ME THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE THE GAS SMELL IN THE OIL BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY THE ENGINES WERE DESIGNED. I THEN TOLD HIM THAT I READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE TO HONDA AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKED INTO BY HONDA. HE SAID NEVER IN HIS CAREER HAS HE BIN WRONG ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I SAID WELL I WANT IT DOCUMENTED IN THE PAPERWORK THAT THE OIL SMELLS LIKE STRAIGHT GAS AND IF SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN TO THE VEHICLE THAT I WANTED IT FIXED IN FULL BY HONDA BECAUSE OF WHAT HE HAD SAID TO ME. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE TO HONDA. PEOPLE ARE HAVING TO PAY LOTS OF MONEY TO GET THEIR ENGINES FIXED OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT LOOK INTO IT AND FILE A RECALL. OUR VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY STILL AT THIS TIME WITH ONLY 35000 MILES AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. JUST SWEPT UNDER THE RUG SO WHEN IT KILLS THE ENGINE WE THE BUYERS ARE STUCK PAYING FOR IT. I HOPE SOMEONE ACTUALLY REVIEWS THIS AND TAKES ACTION. HONDA HAS ALREADY SAID THEY'D LOOK INTO IT BECAUSE THEY WERE FULLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles.  The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. Honda indicated that they were aware of a total of X,XXX reports that may relate to the alleged defect. Honda provided analysis of the alleged defect and alleges that some customers possibly had an inadequate understanding of the CMBS and its limitations.  However, many consumer complaints allege that Honda dealerships were unable to reproduce the condition or state that they were informed that this is considered normal CMBS operation. To date, ODI has received a total of 1,294 consumer complaints of inadvertent activation of CMBS in 2017-2022 Honda CR-V and 2018-2022 Honda Accord vehicles. A total of 31 complaints alleged a crash and 50 alleged an injury.  The Total column in the Failure Report Summary removes duplicate reports and shows the total number of reports with unique VINs from all Manufacturer, ODI, and EWR data sources.  In some cases, there were multiple reports associated with a particular vehicle in which recurring failures were alleged.  In total, there were X,XXX reports, 93 injury incidents and 47 crashes involving vehicles with unique VINs that may relate to the alleged defect. PE22-003 has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis to further assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety related consequences of the inadvertent AEB activations. The scope has been expanded to include assessment of model year 2020-2022 Honda CR-V and Accord vehicles. Forward Collision Avoidance: Sensing System: Radar
