I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX‑L (VIN#: [XXX]). Shortly after a service visit to a Honda dealer for unrelated maintenance (in Sep. 2024 with an estimated 50,000 miles), the dashboard began showing ‘Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer’. A dealer quoted $400+ to diagnose and replace what appears to be a common passenger airbag indicator sensor failure, a known issue reported by many 2018 Accord owners. I believe Honda should issue a recall due to the safety risk. I’m filing this as a VOQ complaint for ODI’s review and authorize NHTSA to share my identifying info with Honda if needed. Supporting Documentation and numerous examples of complaints from hundreds of Honda Accord owners relating to this problem: - Numerous drivers of 2018 Honda Accords have reported the identical warning (“Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer”) along with fault code B002013, intermittent dashboard behavior, and inability of dealers to resolve it consistently. - Honda’s 2024 Campaign 24‑050 identifies the seat weight sensor as directly causing SRS warnings and passenger airbag indicator failure - demonstrating this component is known to fail and trigger airbag system alert behavior, even if not yet applied to 2018 model year. - Independent coverage confirms the risk and design defect in seat sensors causing unintended SRS failures, underscoring the safety risk and Honda’s formal acknowledgment of the issue in later models. - Multiple complaints about post‑service warning lights that match this scenario (electrical system category), and public news coverage stating Honda is recalling vehicles due to faulty passenger seat sensors that may cause airbag or SRS failures. - 37 official complaints for the 2018 Accord, with no repair by dealer and failure left unresolved. One report (May 12, 2025) describes this exact issue saying the dashboard message randomly popped up and a "dealer wanted $250 diagnostic and $4,000 to repair. - My service quote attached. The infotainment system is registering multiple "ghost" touches, switching screens from GPS Air Play, to FM radio, to system info, to screen saver, to making actual phone calls, etc. This happens many times within a 30 second window. Many times, the infotainment system will power on its own accord and then flip through various screens. It has been reset 20-25 times and a hard reset by disconnecting a battery 5 times. Nothing helps. Honda said nothing they can do. I have multiple videos to prove the problem. This is a common problem as stated across multiple Honda Accord forums. It creates an unsafe driving environment.

The screen is not working. In the middle of driving, the screen keeps changing and appears that someone is touching it, but no one is. It starts beeping, the audio switches, the GPS goes off, and will not change even when you try clicking the buttons. It is extremely distracting while driving, navigation does not respond, and interferes with the ability to focus on driving. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer, has happened to numerous other customers, and the dealers have done nothing to fix it. It has been inspected by the Honda dealership multiple times. No warning prior to failure. According to research, this has been an ongoing problem for various other people, yet there is still not a fix available for this safety issue. This is unacceptable.

I purchased the Accord new and bought an extended warranty from Honda (Honda Care). My car started having intermittent glitches with the infotainment system about 8 or 9 months ago. The system experiences ghost touches, freezes up, disconnects from my phone, randomly makes calls, hangs up on calls I actually make, will not turn off. Basically, this thing controls the car's brain. I have taken the car to 2 different dealerships and gotten the same response: there is no known fix at this time. Keep in mind, Honda has know about this problem since 2019. I contacted Honda Corporation. I have spoken to them several times. The second to last time I spoke with them (7/31/25), I requested Honda buy the car back. Today Honda called and told me that my car does not qualify for repurchase because I haven't had an inordinate amount of issues with the car. They further said, as we as we have a fix they will contact me and there was nothing else they could do. Remember, they have know about this issue for better than 6 years and, according to information I gathered from the internet, it has been prevalent issue with many people. Not only is this issue a nuisance, it is a safety issue as well.

The faulty touch screen infotainment system creates an environment that is not conducive to safe driving. This specific issue is referred to as the "ghost touch" across the industry which involves the system randomly rapidly pressing buttons autonomously and producing an audible beep with every press of the button. Not only is every random beep a distraction but this issue causes drivers to attempt to regain control of the infotainment system while driving due to the fact that most drivers now rely on these systems for navigation and to abide by hands-free traffic laws. You may ask "Why don't you simply turn the infotainment system off?". Well I tried and the system turns itself back on. This creates a scenario that is equivalent to the dangers presented by texting and driving. A simple google search of 'Honda Accord Ghost Touch' will yield a myriad of results with consumers experiencing this issue and sharing the same concerns. I have audio-video recording of this issue and have spoken to the service advisor at Pearson Honda located in Mildothian, VA and they are requesting that customers pay $180 for a diagnosis of this well known issue but they do not know the exact cause or solution. Customers have had their systems reset and even had the screen replaced and the issue still occurs. This issue has been present in my vehicle for at least 3 months but has progressively gotten worse overtime to the point that driving the vehicle is intolerable as it distracts me while I'm driving and causes a great amount of frustration which also effects my driving behavior.

After a driveshaft recall repair was performed on July 10, 2025, at Germain Honda of Dublin, my 2013 Honda Accord EX-L immediately began showing multiple safety system warning lights, including ABS, VSA, traction control, and check engine. These lights had never appeared prior to the repair. Diagnostic codes included: •VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction •Modulator Control Unit Power Source Circuit (IG) Low Voltage These point directly to the ABS/VSA modulator, which is located near where the driveshaft repair was done. Despite the timing, Honda has refused to cover the repair, quoting me nearly $3,000. The dealer also cleared the codes before I arrived and then claimed they were “historic” with no documentation. I’ve confirmed my battery and alternator are in good condition, ruling out the common causes of voltage errors. I believe something was disturbed or left improperly connected during the recall service, resulting in a dangerous condition involving the vehicle’s braking and stability systems. This is a potential safety risk that arose after a manufacturer-issued recall repair, and I am requesting a formal investigation into similar cases if reported.

Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the Park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.Honda's dealers will be instructed to inspect the ignition interlock switch and, if necessary, replace the original interlock pin and lever within the ignition switch and replace them with new, redesigned parts. This investigation is closed.

SIX OF THE ODI COMPLAINTS ARE DUPLICATIVE OF HONDA COMPLAINTS, AS WELL AS FOUR OF THE CRASHES.THE ONE INJURY OCCURRED WHEN A ROLLAWAY VEHICLE STRUCK THE EXITING OPERATOR WHO HAD INADVERTENTLY PARKED THE VEHICLE IN AN UNSECURED STATE (NOT IN PARK, BRAKE NOT ENGAGED).HONDA IDENTIFIED THE WARRANTY CLAIMS FROM COMPLAINT DESCRIPTIONS THAT CONTENDED THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY.HONDA PRESENTED THE RESULTS OF THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO INTERLOCK SYSTEM FAILURES AT AN OCTOBER 16, 2003 MEETING WITH ODI IN WHICH HONDA IDENTIFIED A SUPPLIER AND AN ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION CHANGE FOR THE IGNITION CYLINDER BODY (CB), A SUBCOMPONENT OF THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY.RESULTS FROM HONDA?S ANALYSIS DEMONSTRATED A STRONG CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PRODUCTION DATE RANGE OF VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCED HIGHER INTERLOCK WARRANTY CLAIM RATES AND THE IMPLEMENTATION DATES OF THE CHANGES.AN ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION FOR A SURFACE TREATMENT PROCESS FOR THE CB WAS ELIMINATED AT THE BEGINNING OF MY 1998.THE SUPPLIER OF THE CB WAS CHANGED IN FEBRUARY 1999.VEHICLES BUILT WITHIN THIS TIME PERIOD CONTAIN A CB WITH POOR SURFACE HARDNESS THAT CAN WEAR PREMATURELY.AS THE WEAR PROGRESSES, THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM BECOMES INCAPABLE OF PREVENTING KEY REMOVAL WHEN THE SHIFTER IS IN A NON-PARK POSITION.INTERLOCK FAILURE INCREASES THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ROLLAWAY AND SUBSEQUENT CRASH OR INJURY WHEN VEHICLES ARE PARKED UNSECURED.HONDA ACCORD VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THIS CHANGE INCLUDE MY 1998 AND MY 1999 THROUGH FEBRUARY 1999 PRODUCTION.VEHICLES PRODUCED AFTER THIS DATE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS CONDITION AND THUS ARE NOT CONSIDERED AT RISK FOR FAILURE.ODI NOTES THAT 12 OF THE 13 VOQ REPORTS FALL WITHIN THIS PRODUCTION RANGE (THE 13TH DOES NOT HAVE A VIN AND CANNOT BE VERIFIED).THE ABOVE POPULATION REPRESENTS THE NUMBER OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES TO BE RECALLED.HONDA ALSO REPORTED THAT CERTAIN ODYSSEY AND ACURA CL AND TL MODELS WERE AFFECTED AND WOULD ALSO BE RECALLED.A TOTAL OF 570,120 VEHICLES WILL BE RECALLED.UNDER RECALL 03V-423, HONDA WILL INSPECT VEHICLES AND REPLACE COMPONENTS (INCLUDING THE CB) ON VEHICLES WITH EXCESSIVE WEAR.VEHICLES NOT SHOWING WEAR WILL HAVE A REDESIGNED PART INSTALLED WHICH PREVENTS WEAR.
