TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HARLEY-DAVIDSON XG750. WITHIN FIVE MONTHS OF OWNING THE MOTORCYCLE, THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE REGARDING A LOSS OF COOLANT FLUID. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO HARLEY-DAVIDSON OF TAMPA (6920 N DALE MABRY HWY, TAMPA, FL 33614, (813) 886-7433) AND THE COOLANT FLUID WAS REFILLED. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE COOLANT FLUID TO LEAK INTERNALLY. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE MOTORCYCLE TO STALL, AND IT ALSO FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN GEAR AND THE CLUTCH WAS RELEASED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Street 500 (XG500), Street 750 (XG750), and 2017-2019 Street 750A (XG750A) motorcycles. The brake calipers may corrode internally after exposure to certain driving environments such as coastal regions or road salt, resulting in increased brake drag.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Excessive brake drag can increase the risk of crash.

Remedy: Harley-Davidson has notified owners, and dealers will install new front and rear brake calipers, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2019. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0174.
