My 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 4WD currently at 67659 miles was taken in to the dealer because of excessive jerk when accelerating or trying to reverse, diagnostic scan failed for check engine and ABS trouble codes. The scan return code PO747 indicating transmission pressure control solenoid “A” was stuck on for a predetermined period of time. The recommended repair is replacement of automatic transmission, solenoid control valve body. I’m aware that GM has issued a TSB 25–NA-255 and special coverage N24245441–02 addressing this exact failure on the GM 10 speed and that GM previously issued a related recall N242454440 addressing this exact failure on the GM 10 speed transmissions, and that GM previously issued a related recall for this citing rear wheel lock up risk associated with transmission valve condition. My vehicle scan showed an ABS failure at the same time as a transmission. code, consistent with the safety risk. GM has already acknowledged and its own recall documentation however I was told to contact NHTSA to document the safety risk and request investigation of the scope of this defect across affected models years and vehicles as mine seems to have fallen short. I previously owned a 2021GMC vehicle same model that experience the identical transmission valve body failure that vehicle could not be repaired in a reasonable time and I ultimately experience financial loss and had to replace a vehicle now I’m experiencing the same defect on the vehicle purchased (this one) with significantly fewer miles than would be expected for a major transmission failure, indicating that this may be a reoccurring manufacturing design defect rather than an isolated incident. Thank you for your time and I hope this issue can be resolved as I do love the truck otherwise however safety first. Thank you

My 2023 GNC Sierra 1500 has experienced a recurring electrical and safety-related malfunction on multiple occasions while driving. The dashboard and warning lights intermittently flash on, and off and numerous warning messages appear simultaneously. During previous occurrences, warnings included power steering service, safety restraint system, check engine and transmission related messages, including a message instructing me to pull over and shut the vehicle off. During one occurrence, the electric power steering assist stopped working while I was driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized GMC dealership multiple times while under the factory warranty. The dealer replaced the Brake System Control Module and performed vehicle-wide software/programming updates. When the problem continued, the dealer contacted GM Technical Assistance. The Dealer subsequently diagnosed an intermittent open circuit involving the electric power steering rack-and-pinion/steering gear assembly and replaced the complete steering gear assembly. Despite these repairs, the malfunction has occurred again, during another occurrence while driving on the freeway, the dashboard flashed on and off and multiple warning lights and messages repeatedly appeared, similar to the condition that occurred before the steering gear was replaced. The vehicle currently has approximately 55,000 miles. The condition remains intermittent despite multiple repair attempts. I am concerned that this recuring electrical or vehicle communication failure could again cause loss of power steering assistance or affect other safety-related vehicle systems while driving.

This complaint involves a sudden failure of my vehicle’s Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Forward Collision Warning system, both of which are critical safety systems. While driving my [XXX] son to school, multiple warning lights suddenly appeared on the dashboard without any prior indication of a problem. The vehicle displayed a warning message instructing me not to exceed 36 miles per hour, and several system alerts activated simultaneously, my ABS brake system failed and a transmission failure warning. These issues appeared suddenly while the vehicle was in normal operation. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had been functioning perfectly. The evening before, I had driven the vehicle to pick up my son from wrestling practice with no issues. The following morning, during a routine trip to school, these critical safety warnings appeared without warning. Because the warnings involved the braking system, I immediately took the vehicle to Beach Buick GMC for inspection. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a software failure affecting the braking system and informed me that the vehicle required a software update and system download in order to restore proper operation of the brakes and related safety systems. I was required to pay over $300 for this repair because my vehicle is approximately 3,000 miles outside of the warranty period. However, I believe a failure involving the braking system and safety warnings should not occur suddenly in a properly functioning vehicle and should not be treated as a normal maintenance expense. I contacted **General Motors customer service to ask why a failure involving a critical safety system would not be covered or investigated further. The only explanation provided was that the vehicle was outside of the warranty period. I requested a written explanation of their decision for my records, but I was told that providing written explanations is against company policy. I have more to say but I am out of characters... At high speeds, 65 to 75 mph, on the freeway, the rear brakes suddenly lock up for no apparent reason. Extremely dangerous for myself and surrounding vehicles, especially behind me. The most recent incident pretty much gave me whiplash because it's unexpected with no warnings whatsoever. The freeway was clear, with light traffic. I was almost rear ended because the vehicle behind me had no reason to believe the my vehicle was going to suddenly come to an abrupt stop. I looked up any known similar issues for the 2023 model, and found that there GMC did a recall for similar issues on the up to 2022 models, but that the issue had been resolved. Obviously it hasn't.

While driving on the highway warning lights for ABS, Check Engine, traction control and towing disabled came on. Also, the truck was limited to a speed of 62 mph. When attempting to apply the brakes the peddle went to the floor and the truck was extremely hard to stop. Power brakes were gone and manual braking was the only way to stop. After pulling over and restarting the truck the power brakes came back. The truck was taken to the dealer and they claimed the truck needed some updates and was fixed. About four months later this same problem occurred again while coming to a stop causing the truck to miss a stop sign and enter an intersection. The same lights came on and the trucks speed was reduced. After restarting the truck the power brakes started working again and the truck was dropped off to the dealership. The dealer looked into the problems and said the truck needed computer updates but found no other problems. Driving this truck has become nerve racking not knowing if the brakes will stop working again.

The engine was replaced the first time by Quality GMC in Albuquerque, NM. The 2nd engine is being replaced by Diamond GMC in Palmdale, CA. Warning lamps on the 1st engine seizure was tire pressure warning. The electrical shutdown was forward collision warning, emergency braking, etc. The 2nd engine seizure said something about engine needed to be restarted.

I completely lost any braking capability and had to let it slow down & pull off to the side of the highway. I shutoff the vehicle and then restarted it & everything seemed fine. I took it to the dealership right away, where they said it had about 20 communication codes across different systems. After 3 days of them having it, they have no idea what is going on. They are now test driving my truck to see if they can get it to happen again (which could kill someone if it does happen again).

Engine

On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024.  GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s  recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE. NHTSA will continue to investigate complaints of engine failure outside the scope of recall 25V-274 as part ofEngineering Analysis (EA25007).
