Complete engine failure. I was driving approximately 55 miles an hour, then all of a sudden the cruise control automatically shut off and a series of alarms are triggered. When pressing the accelerator pedal, the engine vibrated excessively in Cleary indicated catastrophic engine failure. I was lucky enough to make it to the nearby dealer who confirmed a complete engine failure. I ended up buying a new vehicle that day to avoid being stranded.

Around June 2025 under normal driving my truck displayed engine oil low which I promptly checked the oil to find that it was in range. The light later went off but I still brought it to the dealership to which they could find no issues. From there over the next month or so the truck developed a low end popping sound on start up and at my next oil change at the dealership in August of 25 I asked them to listen to see if they heard it and could recommend a course of action. They reported not hearing anything. On October 19th I had my family in the truck with me and during normal acceleration the engine had a loud pop sound and lost power. Every warning light came on and I pulled over promptly when safe. I had it towed to the dealership and their initial diagnosis was a failure on cylinder 4 with a suspected failure of either the cam shaft or lifter. Given the poor design of the lifter I didn’t want to go back with the OEM lifter so I had it towed to an aftermarket shop. It is there now and they are in the process of tearing down the engine. After watching a video on YouTube I fear my truck is part of the connecting rod bearing failure under PE25-001. My understanding is there is an official investigation into the trucks outside the initial recall. I wanted to submit this for your review as the truck only had 74,000 miles. Freeman GMC in Grapevine, Tx has performed all the maintenance and should have documentation.

Less then 47 000 miles on truck, Used for only city driving, no off road driving or rigorous travel. - engine malfunction and could have had catastrophic failure while traveling causing injury to myself or others. -Car is inoperable, dealer recommend not to drive it due to safety concerns. -I have metal shavings in the oil, misfires, and a P0011 code. These match the known GM lifter/camshaft failure pattern. Vehicle started skipping check engine light turned on for cam shaft interrupter magnet. GM has open recall for 2021-2025 engine However 2019 vehicle is still under investigation.

While driving my Sierra AT4, my engine shut off with no previous indication of a problem. The dash simply said to restart the vehicle. Unable to do so, I coasted the vehicle into a parking lot. Once it was diagnosed to be a defective engine, I replaced it with a new GM long block assembly paid out of pocket as the vehicle had 210,000 miles on it and was well out of warranty coverage. The first replacement engine lasted 15,000 miles before developing a spun bearing in the engine. GM did cover replacement of the engine assembly. The 2nd replacement engine was installed 12/2022 and lasted until 2/2025. Same engine seizure problem as the original due to the bearing failures that plague this engine series. Engines have always run 0-w20 Mobil1 synthetic as recommended by GM. Vehicle is currently waiting for GM to make a decision to cover it or not.

We purchased 5/24 with 78K miles and it stopped at 94K miles. We didnt have the truck for 5 months because of the motor recalls were backed up. The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle lost motive power. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated after the failure. Upon investigation, the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with lifter failure and camshaft damage. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 86,960.

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 vehicles equipped with certain accessory road tires and a 17" spare tire. The 17" spare tire provided with the vehicle is not compatible for use with the accessory wheels, which can cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) to not function properly under certain conditions.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An ABS system that does not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will provide a new 17" spare tire and wheel assembly that is compatible with the accessory wheels, free of charge. Dealers will also apply a new spare tire information label, and provide owners with an owner's manual insert clarifying which spare tire to use with the accessory road tires and with the 17" original tires. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the driveshaft separates, there may be a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of crash.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. When the front seat belt pretensioners deploy, hot gas may vent through an opening in the pretensioner bracket, possibly igniting the carpet.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire could result if materials ignite inside the vehicle.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE.
