2014 Ford Taurus

The fuel pump control module [XXX] ) failed suddenly and the car failed to drive, I am not driving fast and able to pull over safely. I bought the part part from Ford dealer and replaced the old one, then the problem is fixed. However, as this part fails suddenly and the failing will result in immediate engine stop, it is a safety issue and I shall report it. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard wind noise in the interior of the vehicle. After a visual inspection, he became aware that the rear driver's side door latch mechanism failed to secure the door closed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failures, the contact related them to NHTSA Campaign Number 20V331000 (Exterior Lighting) and NHTSA Campaign Number 14V285000 (Latches, Locks, Linkages), but the VIN was not included in either recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 86,000.

This vehicle was sold to me with a not for sale in states requiring California emissions, no governor on the vehicle as well faulty lighting mechanisms. The fuel pump is fluctuating and the car is a danger to myself and those around me. I consulted with a independent licensed mechanic who confirmed these defaults. No warning lights no messages and the dealer did not point out these flaws. I discovered this issue after getting some routine maintenance done on the vehicle

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V285000 (Exterior Lighting) and Manufacturer Recall Number: 20S30/15S16/16S30 however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,131.

The contact stated that on several occasions the camera image displayed was upside down, distorted or showed a black screen. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 163,000.

Water pump failure causing a major leak. Because the vehicle is designed to have the water pump run on the timing chain and the oil pan right underneath the water pump, the coolant leaks right into the oil pan and coolant enters the engine. I was driving on a back road and had to abruptly pull over on the side of the road because the driver assist screen said “engine coolant overheating.” This was the first and only time this message appeared. There was smoke coming from under the hood. Numerous mechanics that I’ve spoken to said that if I drove it any longer, there’s a good chance the engine could blow. So now I’m looking at a $3,000+ repair for this. Realistically, any other make and model (that was designed with common sense) with a failed water pump should cost $500-1,000. And won’t run the risk of ruining your engine on top of it. I spoke to several Ford dealers and third party mechanics. Every one of them knew exactly what I was talking about like they had seen this many times before. The third party mechanics refused to fix it because it’s an 11+ hour labor None of them said there are any pro’s to having the water pump connected to the timing chain. But there are many con’s to this design. Sounds like negligence on behalf of the engineers who designed all the 3.5L and 3.7L V6’s in the Fords. Luckily, I was going between 20-30 mph on a backroad when this occurred. Otherwise, this could have ended very badly and I’d like to prevent this from happening to anyone else in the future.

Without any warning or warning lights the electronic power steering system failed, and the turn signal will not remain on unless held manually (new problem that started when the power steering failed). It is very hard to turn without it, and I am a strong man, it's nearly impossible to turn with one hand so the turn signal can also be operated. Only 39000 miles on the vehicle.
