2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid

The rack and pinion has failed twice within 2 and a half years. The steering has completely gone out twice while driving, causing extremely unsafe circumstances that could put multiple people in danger. After doing some research this is a common issue with Ford Fusions which is putting a lot of people in danger since it is a loss of steering issue. My wheel completely locked up while driving on the highway, how is this part not recalled yet? There are two separate safety recalls dealing with steering issues but the rack and pinion is not specifically mentioned so it is not covered under recall. This is extremely unsafe. Please look into this. Thank you.

Additionally, the horn and the buttons on the steering wheel became inoperable. The contact pushed up on the steering wheel, applying a lot of pressure, to steer the vehicle while turning. Additionally, when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact believed that the failures were associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,600.

While traveling down the road, suddenly the steering gets hard to turn and the antilock brake system goes out. Usually, you can correct the problem by stomping on the brake or turning the car off and back on. Several warnings come up including Advancetrac failure. It’s a very dangerous situation when your power steering goes out while traveling down the road. This same issue has occurred more than 5 times.

I had just left my sons school and was on my way to pick up my daughter. In the middle of making a left turn into oncoming traffic, my steering wheel locked on me making it hard to complete the turn. Then another came on saying no bill start assist. Then the traction lights came on. I was able to safely move out the way. I had 2 mechanics look at it. One said it was the steering rack and another said the electronic steering wasn’t communicating with the cars computer system. The one that said the communication was off plugged the car into some type of gadget and the car was working fine for a month or so. Then it happened again. I need my car but I am also afraid to drive it because of this.

The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD FUSION HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOOSENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHAPMAN FORD OF COLUMBIA (3951 COLUMBIA AVE, COLUMBIA, PA 17512) WHERE THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND TIGHTENED THE BOLTS AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. MONTHS LATER WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO CHAPMAN FORD. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *LN*JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD FUSION HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK AND APPEARED TO BE FALLING OFF. THE "CHECK SAFETY" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED AIRPORT MARINA FORD (310-574-2641, 5880 W CENTINELA AVE, LOS ANGELES, CA 90045) AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A CHECK-UP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,800. *DT*JB
