Driver reported an intermittent odor of burning oil or hot brakes from rear wheels. Found rear axle wheel seal leaking gear oil; brake pads soaked, and gear oil pooling in wheel. Driver reported an intermittent odor of burning oil or hot brakes from rear wheels. Found rear axle wheel seal leaking gear oil; brake pads soaked, and gear oil pooling in wheel. This could compromise braking, and neglecting the leak would cause damage to the rear differential or cause the rear differential to lock up. Took to Ford dealer, who confirmed wheel seal leak & also found leaking pinion seal on steering. Repaired under warranty.
