EXHAUST ODORS ENTER VEHICLE CABIN AFTER HEAVIER ACCELERATION. IT IS MORE PREVALENT WHEN AIR CONDITIONING IT TURNED ON. THIS ODOR CAN VARY IN INTENSITY FROM MILD TO SO OVERWHELMING THAT YOU COUGH, GAG, EYES WATER AND SINUSES WILL DRAIN. IT IRRITATES MY THROAT. I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE A LOT EACH DAY AND WHILE AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE SMELL WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE FROM OTHER VEHICLES EXHAUST IN FRONT OF ME, I HAVE FINALLY REALIZED IT IS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE I AM DRIVING. SMELL INTENSITY SEEMS RELATED TO HOW HARD THE ACCELERATION WAS. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN ENTERING A HIGHWAY ON AN ACCELERATION RAMP DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE SITUATION COULD REQUIRE HEAVY ACCELERATION TO GET UP TO SPEED. THE CAR GETS A VERY HEAVY ODOR OF EXHAUST INSIDE THE CABIN IN THIS SITUATION WITH AIR CONDITIONING ON. WHEN THIS INTENSITY HAPPENS YOU MUST ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TO CLEAR THE SMELL FROM THE INTERIOR. THE SMELL IS LESS INTENSE DURING EASIER ACCELERATIONS. I NOTICE MYSELF FEELING DROWSY SOMETIMES DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, WITH AIR CONDITIONING ON, AFTER I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR MAYBE AN HOUR OR SO. ROLLING THE WINDOWS DOWN SEEMS TO MAKE THE SENSATION GO AWAY AS DOES GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED CARBON MONOXIDE IS PRESENT WITH THE ODOR THAT ENTERS THE VEHICLE INTERIOR. I DO NOT NOTICE THE SMELL MUCH DURING THE COOLER MONTHS WHEN AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT USED. THE INTENSITY OF THE ODOR, UNDER HEAVIER ACCELERATION, IS VIRTUALLY BREATHTAKING. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO BREATH INSIDE THE INTERIOR DURING THIS KIND OF INTENSITY. WE PURCHASED THIS USED VEHICLE USED IN EARLY 2016 WITH 10,000 MILES ON IT AND DRIVE IT DAILY. IT HAS OVER 30,000 MILES NOW. I HAVE READ AND RESEARCHED MANY COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND FORD EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME DESCRIBED ISSUE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESEARCH A FIX.

AT 60,000 MILES MY 2014 FORD EDGE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND 10 MPH ON MY STREET AS I WAS GETTING READY TO PARK WHICH EFFECTED BRAKING. THIS CAUSED ME TO HIT THE HIGH CONCRETE CURB IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND MESS UP MY FRONT BUMPER. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PULL THE LOWER BUMPER COVER OFF TO KEEP IT FROM DRAGGING THE GROUND. THE MASTER DOESN'T COMPLETELY FAIL THOUGH, IT WORKS FOR ABOUT A DOZEN STOPS AND THEN THE PEDAL GETS SOFT FOR ONE STOP. UPON CALLING FORD THIS IS ONE OF THE VIN NUMBERS THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THERE ARE SO MANY FAILURES OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER WITH A LOT OF FORD MODELS THAT HAVE THE SAME ENGINE, BUT I'M SUPPOSE TO BELIEVE THEY GOT THE PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE MY VEHICLES...I HAVE A FEELING THAT AS VEHICLES START TO HIT THE SAME MILEAGE AROUND MY YEAR THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE OF THESE ISSUES POPPING UP.

SCARED AND SHAKEN I WAS TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH TREES BLOCKING THE FRONT DOORS. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BY CLIMBING INTO THE BACKSEAT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. Nov 10, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.

15V005000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery:fuel Pump

Jan 9, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

14V393000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Jul 2, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

PE15020 · Wheel Separation

Opened May 20, 2015 · Closed Jan 4, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Wheels:rim

On November 29, 2014, ODI received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 Ford Edge vehicle (VOQ 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field. The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident. On May 29, 2015 ODI sent an information request to Ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the Edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel. On July 17, 2015 Ford provided ODI with the requested information. Ford's search showed that the single incident reported to ODI is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles. The failed wheel was sent to the National Transportation Service Board (NTSB) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The NTSB determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, The rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)There were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site.Metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full NTSB report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. The following VOQ is associated with this investigation: 10661278
