DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE AND AIR BAG LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. AFTER STALLING, THE ENGINE GAVE OFF A BURNING ODOR THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HAD TO WAIT 5-10 MINUTES BEFORE TRYING TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. *JB
MY CARS SINCE NEW HAS HAD VERY ROUGH IDLE AT TIMES. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN DEC 03 AND THEY HAVE ALREADY HAD TO PULL THE HEADS AND REPLACE HEAD GASKETS FOR AN OVER HEATING ISSUE THAT POPPED UP. THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL RATTLES IN THE CAR. *AK

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, AN INTERNAL HOOD LATCH COMPONENT MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH A CRACK, WHICH COULD PROPAGATE AND BREAK, ALLOWING THE PRIMARY/SECONDARY LATCH SPRING TO DISENGAGE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HOOD LATCH FUNCTION, ALLOWING THE HOOD TO OPEN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LATCH ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-992-1997.
