The vehicle experienced a catastrophic charging system failure. When connected to the wall charger, the charge port becomes hot to the touch within seconds. The charger connector has now cracked from heat stress, and the wall charger itself previously melted due to electrical backfeed from the vehicle. The vehicle refuses to charge at all. This appears to be a thermal event and fire-risk safety defect involving the onboard charger, wiring harness, or battery management system. Insurance refused coverage due to the nature of the electrical failure. The vehicle is unsafe to charge or operate.

My 2015 Chevy Volt has been experiencing ongoing mechanical and electrical issues, including random power loss, reduced propulsion warnings, and sudden vehicle shutdowns with no prior indication. These problems pose a serious safety concern, as the car can lose power unexpectedly while driving. Despite these issues, GM has refused to service the vehicle or unlock necessary components because they no longer manufacture or support the required parts. As a result, I am left with an unsafe and unreliable vehicle with no available remedy from the manufacturer. This is forcing me to trade in the vehicle at a loss

The car has not been able to charge since April of last year. I have taken it to the dealer to diagnose but they want to charge $200 per hour to diagnose. They already suggested that the charge receptacle should be replaced. I purchased the part and replaced it myself. I have tried asking if it could be the BECM like with other model years and they said they could only determine that after testing and replacing parts. The P1EE6 error code suggests that the BECM might need to be replaced and/or reprogrammed. There have been several times that I have experienced a loss of propulsion error while driving. I know there is a safety bulletin for the 2016-2019 models year that I think should apply to other model years.

This car is connected to Bouncie a device that detects when a car turns on and off, the speed, if break or acceletor are stepped on forcefully and any trips. Recently the device is detecting the engine is turned off but the car is showing no signs of struggling and its in full motion. This is new, I've tested the device in another car for two weeks hoping it was the device but I had no issues on the other vehicle. The images is just one of several occasions. The image shows green dot where car starts and red where car is turned off. However, I never turned off my car at the Demaree Rd that day. I feel like the car is losing power and starts back up while in motion.

In the following seconds, the gas pedal completely stopped responding, and I had to coast to a stop at the side of the road. It was a dangerous spot on the road to have this happen. I was able to power the vehicle off, and then back on again, and the vehicle functioned normally immediately afterwards, with no engine light on.

I ADVANCED SELECTOR TO DRIVE, BUT OVERSHOT INTO NEUTRAL. REALIZED MY ERROR WHEN PRESSING ACCELERATOR YIELDED NO SPEED INCREASE. PUT SELECTOR INTO "D", VERIFIED VISUALLY AND PRESSED ACCELERATOR WITHOUT RESULT. VERIFIED AGAIN VISUALLY THAT SELECTOR IN D. ADVANCED DELIBERATELY INTO N, THEN BACK TO D, THEN REAPPLIED ACCELERATOR WITH FUNCTIONAL RESULT THIS TIME. I AM A PE WITH SIEMENS VDO, RETIRED. 2/24/17 WHILE DRIVING ON A PUBLIC BUSINESS 2 LANE ROAD WITH 30 MILES BATTERY LIFE AND 150 MILES GAS AVAILABLE, THE CAR DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY SLIGHT DECLINING SLOPE WHEN IT COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE "FAST" LANE OF TRAFFIC ON A FOUR LANE ROAD - TWO LANES IN EACH DIRECTION. THE WARNING "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED" AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WERE BOTH ON. I WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR BY FORCEFULLY TURNING RIGHT INTO A DRIVEWAY ACROSS ANOTHER TRAFFIC LANE WHILE ROLLING SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO MAKE IT INTO THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE I STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS AND I FORCEFULLY HAD TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO THE CAR WOULD NOT ROLL. WHEN I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THE HAZARDS WENT OFF SO I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON SO THAT THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD WORK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS ABLE TO LOAD IT ONTO THE STAKE BED AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS WORKING FINE. NO ERRORS ON DISPLAY. IT SAT OFF FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND HE DROVE IT ONTO THE STAKE BED. THE SIERRA CHEVROLET IN MONROVIA CA HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK, BUT SAID THAT THE CODES DID NOT SHOW UP WHEN THEY TESTED IT. AND THEY EVEN DROVE THE CAR AROUND TOWN FOR 70 MILES. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THIS WASN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CODE SHOWED UP BUT THE OTHER TWO TIMES, IT SHOWED UP THE CAR LOST POWER, WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL AT ABOUT 35MPH, BUT IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED ITSELF....AND THE CODE DISAPPEARED. I INFORMED THE DEALER THAT A FULL CHARGE FROM MY HOUSE USED TO BE MORE THAN 40 MILE RANGE, NOW IT IS DOWN TO 30 - 35 MILES...NEVER 40. I GOT THE CAR BACK WITH NO WORK DONE. ON THE FREEWAY IT HAD TROUBLE GOING MORE THAN 55 MPH SO OPTED FOR SLOW LANE RATHER THAN THE USUAL CAR POOL LANE AND IMMEDIATELY GOT OFF THE FREEWAY. THIS WAS A VERY STRAIGHT FREEWAY, NO INCLINES. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, FEEL MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED AS IT JUST STOPPED!

I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI, WHO IN TURN NEARLY TURNED OVER TRYING TO SWERVE OUT OF MY LANE. THE SEMI NEARLY PUSHED ANOTHER CAR INTO SAN FRANCISCO BAY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS VEHICLE AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT ALLOW IT TO BE SOLD.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition.
