I BOUGHT A 05 TB-EXT LAST JUNE, I NO SOONER GOT 5 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY (8 MILE TOTAL ON OD) WHEN I STARTED TO FEEL SOMETHING FUNNY, I WAS PUSHING ON THE GAS, BUT IT WAS LOOSING SPEED TRAFFIC WAS BACKING UP BEHIND ME AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED TO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS ASSURED THAT IT WAS A TRANNY LINE THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED AT THE FACTORY. NOW 3 MONTHS LATER, (5300 TOTAL ON OD) MY KIDS AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY YESTERDAY AT 65 MPH WHEN THE RPM'S SHOT UP TO 4500-5000, AND IT WAS LOOSING SPEED. THERE WAS NOT ANY WARNING SIGNS GOING OFF. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 5 LANE FREEWAY (I-580 WEST) I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER AND CHECKED THE FLUID LEVEL, IT WAS FINE. I JUST PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR HAS AN UNCOVERED MIRROR ON IT. WHEN I PULL THE VISOR DOWN TO BLOCK THE SUN, THE MIRROR REFLECTS MY HANDS AND LAP WHICH IS A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON AT GENERAL MOTORS (JOOHEE KIM). SHE SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE ABOUT REPLACING THE VISOR WITH ONE WITH NO MIRROR OR ONE WITH A COVERED MIRROR. I LOOKED AT SEVERAL OTHER SUV'S AND TRUCKS AT MY DEALERSHIP AND THE TRAILBLAZER IS THE ONLY ONE WITH AN UNCOVERED MIRROR. The office of defects investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by General Motors (GM) as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers.In total, there were 5,089 unique reports indicating an inaccurate fuel level reading while driving.General Motors stated that this condition occurs when the contacts of the fuel sensor wear prematurely.Most of the complaints indicated an empty fuel gauge reading after filling the tank.Less than 10 percent of theODI complaints involved an engine stall incident.During this investigation, GM developed a remedy procedure and issued special coverage bulletin instructing dealers to install a new design fuel level sensor.The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2011 and the owner letter mailing began on August 15, 2011.See the investigative file for copies of GM's bulletin and owner letter.This preliminary evaluation is closed.

One complaint alleged a vehicle crash after the vehicle stalled while exiting the interstate, became disabled, and was struck from behind.Summarily, the complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with most complaints received within the past year.A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences associated with the alleged defect.
