I am writing to formally document a series of catastrophic mechanical failures involving my vehicle, as well as serious inaccuracies currently reflected on the Carfax report. At approximately 15,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure that required a full engine replacement. Less than 900 miles after the engine replacement, the vehicle then suffered a catastrophic transmission failure, which also required replacement. In connection with the transmission failure, there was also a fuel module issue that left me stranded. These failures were not minor or routine service events. One breakdown occurred on a major roadway and required the road to be shut down due to the vehicle being disabled. Another breakdown occurred on the Florida Turnpike as a result of complete engine failure, leaving me stranded in a highly dangerous situation. Despite the severity of these events, the Carfax report does not accurately reflect what occurred. The Carfax report does not state that the engine was replaced, and the transmission failure is not identified as a transmission replacement at all. Instead, it is reported as routine or normal service, without any indication that a catastrophic transmission failure or replacement occurred. This misrepresentation significantly understates the true condition and mechanical history of the vehicle. Due to the repeated catastrophic failures, the circumstances under which they occurred, and the risk posed to my safety and the safety of my family, I am genuinely afraid to drive this vehicle. I want to ensure that all of this information is properly documented and that the vehicle’s records accurately reflect its true history and condition.

I was notified that my 2023 Silverado had an open recall (L87 Engine loss of propulsion). I brought the truck to the dealer for the recall on 8/19 with 35,921 miles on the vehicle. The inspection was performed and I was told it passed. When I asked about the extended special coverage they told me they didn't know what I was talking about. Only 4 months and 4,567 miles later, on 12/29, the vehicle shutdown in traffic and was not able to restart. The engine had failed and the starter fuse blew due to the motor being seized. The dealer relaced the engine due to the same recall that the engine had already been inspected and passed the inspection for.

I am sending this email to report that my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado had its rear brakes lock up momentarily on consecutive days (1/13/26 & 1/14/26) driving 70-72 mph. Each occurrence came on without warning and only lasted a brief moment, but locked up hard enough for my rear wheels to screech and slam me forward in the truck, thankfully there were no other vehicles near me. I took the truck to the dealership first thing in the morning on 1/15/26 to be informed later that day that the truck didn't show any codes. The service department at my dealership contacted the TAC Dept. at GM and they determined that the problem was caused by the brake light wiring from my truck topper (that was after they asked if the customer had added any accessories to the truck). I have had the topper for 3 years without any issues. I reached out to the company that installed the topper and the owner said that GM is giving me the run around and trying to point the blame elsewhere. He himself has installed 100's of toppers and they follow the wiring instructions from Leer Toppers. He did a 30 second Google search and said [XXX] , the problem you have experienced is well documented online, GM knows what the problem is with your truck". My truck was at the dealership for 5 days before they released it to me, even after I told them that there are known and documented cases of their trucks experiencing momentary rear wheel lockups. I have called GM Customer Service twice and left messages regarding my truck and TAC # and haven't received a return call. I am fearful that when this happens again and if it does so in the wrong place at the wrong time the end of this story may be tragic. If I was pulling a trailer, driving on ice or in rush hour traffic I can't imagine the outcome. GM knows they have a serious problem and they is comfortable in releasing a dangerous truck back onto the roads. Got out check the oil in my truck and there was none on the dipstick with the truck off of course. Checked at two other times allowing the dipstick to stay in for three or four minutes. Still no oil on the dipstick. Did not drive truck any further. Truck has the 6.2 L and I had the recall applied to the truck on December 8. The truck has 88% of the oil life remaining according to the truck.
My truck passed the recall PICO test right at 20,000 miles. The dealer put thicker 0w40 oil in. Less than 2,000 miles later, upon hard acceleration from 5-8mph, the engine climbed to 58mph then lost power, shifted itself into Neutral and coasted to the side of road. Less than 2,000 miles later, upon hard acceleration from 5-8mph, the engine climbed to 58mph then lost power, shifted itself into Neutral and coasted to the side of road. Truck was towed and told the engine seized up. Changing the oil did not make sense to me as lubrication was always available previously, thickening it does not change the port mill sizes for properly oiling the crank bearings. Now the new engine is revised but I see failures in low milage 2026 models happening.

And the remote start hasn’t worked since and the check engine light is on. Two years ago when the brake module failed right before that recall the temperature was very cold that day too. Just two months ago the check engine light came on and that time the dealership said the battery failed . It also printed out a whole page of errors , at the dealership.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
