On 3 occasions, the last happening today (XXX) traveling north on XXX toward [XXX] at approximately 14:05, the vehicle has stopped abruptly and hard, and will then release. Today, it took it longer to release. When it occurred this time, it braked just as hard but longer, so I had to cross two lanes so the cars behind me would not hit me. The cars swerved around me and the car eventually let go and I was able to accelerate from that dangerous position on the side of the highway. The first time it happened, someone was pretty close behind me. The car stopped hard, real hard, but let go quickly enough to accelerate before a collision. The second time, there was no one in front or behind us, and we were safe. It hadn’t happened in a while, today. We’ve downloaded 2 or 3 software update, and I was hoping it fixed the issue. It did not. Today the car stumbled and the rpm’s jumped. I feel like the car momentarily braked while I was accelerating. The vehicle lost acceleration/propulsion while traveling at highway speed on a major bridge with limited safe shoulder space. The vehicle suddenly stopped providing power needed to maintain speed in fast-moving traffic. Passengers included an infant, young child, and other family members. This created a serious safety risk because there was little room to safely pull over while traffic continued around the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Chevrolet dealer and is available for inspection. The cause has not yet been confirmed. The vehicle has about 15,000 miles. Shortly after the lease began, the check engine light came on intermittently and then turned off the next time the vehicle was driven. There have also been prior concerns with unexpected automatic emergency braking behavior. This complaint is being filed because sudden loss of acceleration/propulsion at highway speed on a bridge creates a serious crash risk.

While driving my 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, the vehicle experienced a sudden power and drivability issue. The vehicle began to decelerate on its own while in motion, even though I was actively driving. A warning notification appeared on the driver dashboard, and shortly after, the vehicle power shut off. This creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose speed and/or power while driving in traffic. The issue appears to involve the transmission, powertrain, or vehicle electrical/power management system. The loss of acceleration and sudden deceleration could increase the risk of a crash, especially at highway speeds or in heavy traffic. This incident occurred while the vehicle was being driven, not while parked. The warning message appeared on the dash before or during the power loss. I am reporting this because the vehicle’s sudden deceleration and power shutdown while driving could be a safety defect. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether this issue is related to a known defect, recall, transmission issue, powertrain control issue, or electrical system failure affecting the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox.

This is a 2025 vehicle with 25,000 miles and the Check Engine Soon light stays illuminated due to a faulty PCV Valve or possibly a poorly designed crankcase. The engine code is P04FB and is commonly found as an issue when you do a search. As a safety precaution, the vehicle is programmed to not allow the remote start to work as designed when the engine light is on so this issue affects the overall functionality of the car. Having spoken with the dealership, they report seeing that engine code often and that the part is on backorder. The dealership seems to think it's the crankcase causing the issue and not the PCV Valve as the fix they have been ordering for them is the case. It will potentially go away as the weather is hotter, but if a chilly night or morning comes up, then the light will come back on because there is moisture buildup on the PCV Valve when the temperature drops that causes the light to come on. With all of the complaints I have read online for this very issue, I would like to see NHTSA step up and make Chevy fix their problem. Thank you.

The vehicle has experienced repeated failures of the integrated telematics system, including loss of GPS location accuracy, loss of data connectivity, navigation malfunction, and intermittent failure of voice command and steering wheel controls. On one occasion, the vehicle experienced a complete display blackout while driving, during which both the infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster went entirely black. The condition has occurred repeatedly and persisted despite multiple repair attempts. The vehicle has been out of service for approximately 82 cumulative days for diagnosis and repair of these issues. An authorized Chevrolet dealership ultimately diagnosed a failure of the telematics control module, which was replaced under warranty. Following this repair, the same data connectivity failure recurred and was documented with photo and video evidence. The vehicle was returned to the dealership for further diagnosis. The failure is intermittent and may not be present during every inspection. The telematics system supports navigation, driver information displays, and emergency communication features, including transmission of vehicle location and system data. Loss of GPS and connectivity may impair the vehicle’s ability to provide accurate location information during an emergency. The prior display blackout resulted in loss of driver information while the vehicle was in motion. The condition has been reported multiple times to authorized Chevrolet dealerships. Diagnostic procedures and programming were performed, and the telematics module replacement confirms a system-level failure. Recurrence after component replacement indicates the condition has not been permanently resolved. Prior symptoms included loss of GPS signal, incorrect location, loss of connectivity, navigation failure, and intermittent driver assistance alerts.

When accelerating to enter a road with high speed traffic the engine dies for a few seconds resulting in on coming traffic having to brake to avoid a collision. Then, the engine suddenly accelerates wildly. This problem occurs every time the vehicle is driven. The dealer service people has "tested" by driving the vehicle for 7 miles and declared there is nothing wrong. This is dangerous because the vehicle engine dies/stalls at a critical moment and if an oncoming driver isn't paying attention this could result in a collision.
