I was driving on the highway with GM Super Cruise engaged. I was within the speed limit on a straight road with my hands near the wheel. Without warning, the steering turned sharply to the left on its own and locked — I was unable to correct it or override the system. The vehicle left the road, spun, and was totaled. I walked away with minor injuries. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. The vehicle has been inspected by police (report exists) and insurance representatives. The vehicle is currently at a dealership and is available for inspection. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer. I believe the Super Cruise system malfunctioned and caused the steering to lock in a direction I could not override.

The radio amplifier is mounted in the rear trunk wheel well attached to the bottom, along with the subwoofer assembly. Under the amplifier is a small drain. My trunk leaked during the rain and shorted out the amplifier. This shut off all communication noise in car. No noise from blinkers or warnings of dangerous situations. According to AI, "The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV shares the same basic body structure and rear hatch design as earlier models (2017–2020), and there is no confirmed evidence that the trunk seal was redesigned or improved to prevent water intrusion. Despite a known issue with water leaks into the trunk—often due to voids in seam sealer or compromised tailgate gaskets—General Motors issued a service bulletin (18-NA-182) that applied only to 2017–2020 models. However, owners of 2022 and 2023 models have reported identical leaks, with water pooling in the rear cargo area and damaging components like the amplifier located in the spare tire well." Remember, when the amplifier goes out, every warning signal goes out, as well as radio and hand free operation of cell phones.

The lane departure warning goes on and off randomly. The heating stopped working. There are glitches on the screen interface. And yesterday a red light with a car and exclamation mark through it came on. I took it to the dealer and they only had time to check the code which came up as "hybrid/ev powertrain control module requested MIL illumination" The advisor who is not an ev technician told me not to worry about it because the light went off. Everything i am reading online says this could be a huge safety issue. When I reported it to the manufacturer, they told me to listen to the dealer without getting more information and would not transfer me to a manager. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of others. And I am finding Chevrolet to be negligent on what could be a huge hazard.

The Telematics Module failed at 43,000 miles, 2 years. This shut down everything having to do with GPS, Communications, Super Cruise. I got into an accident, which I feel the car would have responded to, before the accident, if this system was working. The warning was the on star, super cruise, communications, warnings didn't work. On the dash a symbol GPS with red circle and line through it was visible. The Chevrolet Dealership diagnosed the problem and is replacing the module, at my expense. If you do a google search on Telematics Module you will find that this issue applies to all GM vehicles and failure rate is right when the manufacturers warranty runs out, 36,000 miles.

The situation occurs when using supercruise (GM’s lane centering and adaptive cruise control system). Under certain conditions with super cruise engaged and one pedal drive mode active, pressing the cancel cruise button (example: taking manual control briefly in order to allow a merging car into your lane) causes the vehicle to abruptly decelerate without the ability to override with the pedal. This uncontrollable abrupt deceleration poses a hazard to vehicles behind me. This deceleration can only really be overridden by proactively pressing on the accelerator prior to disengaging the super cruise system. I suspect this problem is caused by logic in the super cruise system which does not allow the vehicle to accelerate while the steering wheel is flashing red (such as during disengagement). Generally, removing the flashing red condition from the steering wheel requires applying torque to the steering wheel. However, this is not practical when driving straight and needing to disengage the system. The supercruise system needs to be able to safely and properly disengage at the press of a button without needing to step on the accelerator. I believe that disengaging supercruise without pressure on the accelerator pedal should lead to the car defaulting to going into maximum one pedal braking yet still being able to accelerate on command if needed. The current state of the system requires torque on the steering wheel in order to be able to accelerate out of such a situation.

This car is equipped with Super Cruise an automated driving feature that I believe had a huge part in my inability to avoid hitting a deer. There should be many more considerations and warnings to consumers to protect them. In my situation I kept driving for much longer than I should have because the strain was not so bad. But the feature does not have a feature to pull over. I had to manually pull over and it was in this short period of time where I was clearly too impaired to drive without super cruise but with it I was still fine I could keep my eyes open and on the road which was the only requirement. I was really not prepared and should have been told to make sure you get off the road sooner than you think because once you’re off the highway if you don’t have enough alertness to even pull over or in my case avoid a deer running straight toward my car. The steering feature steered me back toward the deer as I tried to steer away from it. It was running toward me so I tried to steer away to brake. In order to overpower these safety systems I needed to be more alert. Nobody talks about this and I’m normally a really alert driver that’s never been in an accident before I’ve avoided many without these safety features. I know it was my fault for being too tired, but again people shouldn’t be learning that in a life or death situation that should be explained to them. Obviously I would never use that feature until the point I was too tired like I normally do when I’m driving because like I said there is no safe way to pull over if you don’t have the alertness. I mean imagine it was a child and not a deer and I hit a child. That would be a mistake you can’t come back from and I don’t want that to happen to me or anybody else. I’m really second guessing all of this automatic driving because us as consumers have not been properly educated on how to use them safely cause I don’t think these automakers know they are in such a rush to beat each order to market it’s dangerou

Adaptive cruise failed just over 2k miles following another vehicle under 60mph and sped up to set cruise of 75 and would have hit the truck if I didn’t stop it, I took video of failure directly after the incident. First bolt EUV camera failed more than once even after it was replaced, that car was bought back under battery recall. My point is, it’s a continued issue. With lane keep assist you must always be prepared for it not to function, it doesn’t always work and have to cycle the on/off button (same with previous EUV too). While in super cruise in my current vehicle it tried to locate the left lane but a big rig was on the line and my car appeared it was going to hit the truck multiple times within a few seconds as each time I had to bring the car back to the center until I turned it off. I have parts on order but I personally don’t believe that will be the end of based upon my two vehicles.

First off the Forward Collision Alert doesn't work until your about 1 to 2 feet from impact, no matter which of the 3 settings it's put on. We were so close to impact to the rear of a semi when the service tech was testing it that I was very uncomfortable. The lane assist doesn't work until you're left of center or it bounces you back and forth like a drunk drive, plus it doesn't always reconize the yellow or white dotted line. On occasion it will completely go over left of center and put you in the left lane. (It will not maintain the car in the center of the lane.) Today after service the appointment on the these problems, 7 March 2023 both the service Tech and Service manger told me they're just warnings nothing they can do about it. The manufacture sells sheet clearly states Foward Crash Alert. What good is it if your crashing when the alert goes off. It aloso clearly states on the sheet Lane keep assist w/lane departure alert. Again if your already left of center before you're alerted or corrected what good is. The Tech didn't even enter anything about the Anti collision not working but he did joke with the service manager about making me uncomfortable when we were about to collide with the semi.
