THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO SWAY LEFT TO RIGHT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH OR GREATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEAT TREATMENT FOR THE REAR KNUCKLE BUSHINGS CAUSED THE FAILU…

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CADILLAC ELDORADO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO SWAY LEFT TO RIGHT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH OR GREATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEAT TREATMENT FOR THE REAR KNUCKLE BUSHINGS CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF OCTOBER 16, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,600.

99V301000 · Steering:linkages:tie Rod Assembly

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE INNER TIE ROD NUTS ARE LOOSE AND CAN RESULT IN SEPARATION OF A TIE ROD.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: SEPARATION OF A TIE ROD CAN CAUSE UNEXPECTED STEERING INPUT INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK AND ADJUST THE VEHICLE TOE-IN AND TIGHTEN THE INNER TIE ROD NUTS TO THE SPECIFIED TORQUE.
