My 2022 BMW X4 M40i was taken to Flow BMW in [XXX] on XXX to have the cabin air filter replaced. While there, a courtesy inspection showed that the Transmission Bushing needed replacement, the Differential seal needed to be replaced, and the Valve Cover needed to be replaced. My car had 63,000 miles on it at the time of the inspection, and it has never been driven offroad. The total estimate for the repairs is $6,909.12 before taxes. I can see no reason for these issues other than problems with workmanship or defective parts from the manufacturer. There were no warnings associated with these issues other than the dealer's inspection. I was informed by the Service Department that there were no safety issues with the problems at the time of inspection. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A short circuit in the starter relay may increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the remedy is complete. Dealers will replace the engine starter, free of charge. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The incorrectly positioned license plate lamp cutouts could cause confusion to other drivers on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
