TWO SEPARATE FUEL LINE LEAKS, RESULTING IN RAW GASOLINE LEAKING ONTO ENGINE ABOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WERE DETECTED BY NOTICING FUEL SMELL AT IDLE. IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH FELLOW BMW 7-SERIES OWNERS ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS SERIES CAR (E32). FUEL HOSES GET HARD AND NO LONGER SEAL AGAINS…

TWO SEPARATE FUEL LINE LEAKS, RESULTING IN RAW GASOLINE LEAKING ONTO ENGINE ABOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WERE DETECTED BY NOTICING FUEL SMELL AT IDLE. IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH FELLOW BMW 7-SERIES OWNERS ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS SERIES CAR (E32). FUEL HOSES GET HARD AND NO LONGER SEAL AGAINST THE METAL FUEL LINES, CAUSING LEAKS UNDER PRESSURE. I REVIEWED YOUR INCIDENT DATABASE AND FOUND REFERENCES TO 3 ENGINE FIRES THAT MIGHT BE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FUEL LEAKS. THERE SHOULD BE A GOVERNMENT MANDATED RECALL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE AFFECTED FUEL LINES. SINCERELY, DR. MITCHELL LOESCHER.
