This vehicles third gear is making noise and about to be non functioning. There are numerous articles of this issue all over the internet. Yamaha has come up with a new part number for the gear. I've called Yamaha USA and they offered no help. This issue is real and there is no help for the owners who's units are affected by this defect. It's a costly repair and one that the manufacturer should cover since their defective gear is the cause of it.

UPON DOWNSHIFTING, WHEN I DOWNSHIFTED INTO THIRD WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, I HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN. WHEN I STARTED AGAIN FROM THE RED LIGHT, IT MADE THE NOISE AGAIN, ONLY IN THIRD GEAR. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS MOTORCYCLE HAS BEEN RIDDEN VERY EASY, AND ONLY HAS 16,190 MILES IN 8 YEARS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.
