FOR A WEEK, THERE WAS A RATTLING SOUND WHEN I STARTED MY CAR THAT USUALLY STOPPED AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF RUNNING. ON 04/05/14, I HEARD THE RATTLING SOUND THE ENTIRE TIME WHEN DRIVING. WHEN I STOPPED, MY VEHICLE CUTOFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE WAS NO COMPRESSION IN THE ENGINE. HE LATER EXPLAINED THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER BROKE WHICH CAUSED VALVES IN THE ENGINE TO BEND. RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I NOTICED THE SAME EXACT DIAGNOSIS WAS GIVEN TO SEVERAL OTHER CONSUMERS OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. SOME OF WHOM HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF HAVING THEIR VEHICLES CUTOFF ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

I HAD JUST STARTED GOING UP THE HILL I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR. IT STARTED SHAKING AND DID NOT WANT TO GO ANY FASTER. IN THE MEAN WHILE THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. AFTER THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE AS LONG I DID NOT ACCELERATED IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF THE COIL WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND CAUSING LACK OF POWER. I HAD JUST PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE DEALER 5 DAYS AGO BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY RECALL ABOUT THE FUSE AND THE FUSE PANEL. THEY CHANGED THE FUSE AND THE FUSE PANEL AND GAVE ME A PAPER WORK SAYING THAT MY CAR CHECKED OUT GOOD. AND THIS HAPPENS! I GOT DONE THE 60K CHECK UP 5 MONTHS AGO AND 3 WEEKS AFTER THAT THE AUXILIARY FAN GOT BROKEN. I BOUGHT THE CAR 9 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER A THOUSAND DOLLAR ON IT. I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED WITH VW TIGUAN! *TR

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS TOWARDS THE END OF AUGUST (I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A FEW WEEKS EARLIER). WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE PROBLEM WAS THE WATER PUMP WENT BAD. AFTER THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS STILL COVER UNDER WARRANTY THEY REPLACED IT. TODAY THE COOLANT LIGHT WENT OFF AGAIN, SAME ISSUE HAS BEFORE. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR FAX THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THIS IS THE 5TH WATER PUMP REPLACED IN THE CAR IN 2 YEARS. TODAY CALLING THE DEALERSHIP, THE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID THERE ARE QUITE FEW TIGUANS THAT HAVE COME IN WITH THE SAME ISSUE THE LAST FEW WEEKS. RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEMATIC ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY VOLKSWAGEN. THE WARRANTY FOR THE PART ONLY COVERS A YEAR AND 12000 MILES. *TR

VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE, AND THE ENGINE FAILED AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. WHILE ON THE PHONE IT WAS CLEAR THAT I WAS NOT IN A SAFE POSITION, SO MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER EXITED THE VEHICLE WHEN THERE WAS A BREAK IN TRAFFIC. WE WERE ABLE TO GET ACROSS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, BEHIND A GUARDRAIL. WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH 911 SOMEONE SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED, AND NO OTHER CARS WERE AFFECTED. BOTH VEHICLES WERE INOPERABLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE. I WAS TOLD BY THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP THAT AN ENGINE COIL BROKE OFF, AND BACKFED INTO THE HARNESS, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. IN ADDITION, I HAD JUST BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE THAT MORNING, AND HAD DRIVEN 8 MILES WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RELATIONSHIP, AND THAT ENGINE PARTS FAILED. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THIS PART, AS I HAVE VERY LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT PUT ME IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION, AND I WANT TO REPORT THIS IN ORDER TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PIECE, SO THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. *TR

Volkswagen Group of America (VW) is conducting a safety recall of approximately 62,155 model year (MY) 2009-2011 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles to address a partial loss of the exterior lighting (see NHTSA recall 13V-569 for more information). These vehicles' exterior lighting system is protected by two separate fuses contained in a fuse box located in the engine compartment.According to VW, high thermal cycling and soft-coated fuse coating material used at the F16 (also referred to as SB16) location causes movement between the fuse blade and socket, resulting in abrasions on the fuse coating material. This increases resistance and results in overheating of the fuse and disruption of electrical current flow to roughly half of the vehicle's exterior lighting circuits. Examples include loss of one of each of the following: low beam headlight, high beam headlight, brake light, and turn signal light involving the front and rear of the vehicle.VW has stated that the subject F16 fuse in the Tiguan model was used in several other Volkswagen models.According to VW, the temperature of the vehicle's engine and the fuse box varies by vehicle model.ODI found that the complaint and warranty rates for the MY 2009-2010 Tiguan are more than four times greater than that of MY 2009-2010 Volkswagen Jetta sedans.ODI is aware of VW's plan to take a service action of some, but not all, of the other vehicle models. The action will cover MY 2009-2010 Jetta sedan and MY 2009 GTI vehicles.ODI will monitor complaints to NHTSA on all other Volkswagen models equipped with the same subject fuse and take further action if warranted. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10362206, 10471503, 10490408, 10501271, 10504495, 10508638, 10512642, 10520573, 10521147, 10522909, 10523748, 10526032, 10534679, 10538004, 10538410, 10543629, 10544805, 10545540, 10547334, 10547530, 10547775, 10549584, 10550140, 10550903, 10551486, 10551503, 10551538, 10551776, 10551816, 10551848, 10551853, 10552153, 10552322, 10552740, 10552811, 10552866, 10553122, 10553299, 10554352, 10554441, 10554443, 10554730, 10554890, 10555047, 10555080, 10555527, 10555540, 10555988, 10556475, 10558014, 10559441, 10559447, 10561642, 10562693.
