In brief, the front passenger door unlocks and unlatches while the car is in motion. This happens frequently, unpredictably, whether the car is stationary, in reverse, forward or at various speeds. There is. no warning or indication that the problem is happening, other than the door unlatching. We've brought the vehicle into an authorized service center and brought this concern to VW Customer Care's attention. In both cases we were informed that this is a known problem *but there is no part available, and no ETA for the part to be available*.
The driver side door unlocks and opens itself while I am driving the vehicle. In addition, while I am driving, the door opening or locking mechanism (I am unsure which) can be heard moving although this does not always lead to the door opening itself.
Driver's door is malfunctioning: Randomly popped open while at a stoplight without being touched. Won't open from the outside via the handle. Second day after purchasing the new car, WHILE DRIVING the front passenger door just swung open. I thought it was not closed properly, but it kept happening again! I took it to the dealer and was informed that they are seeing multiple cars with the same issue. It is a huge safety issue and it seems that these electronic door handles cannot handle cold and keep malfunctioning. The car is at the dealer right now and VW does not have the parts to fix it or is afraid to address the issue. It's a new car, I drove it for a few days and it has been sitting at the dealer for TWO MONTHS without any resolution in sight! Please address the safety issue and ask VW to ensure it does not happen to others. On Facebook group, multiple people are affected. My dealer, Romeo of Kingston NY has multiple cars with electronic door handle issues.
Rear passenger side door constantly locking and unlocking itself while vehicle is in motion and then opening itself while vehicle is in motion, going 30+ mph when it is supposed to be locked closed.

When I’m reverse, if your body slightly lifts off seat, car comes to a screeching hault. Making it impossible to backup without solely relying on review camera. Many times camera is not sufficient for visual backup.

I am having the (seemingly common) problem of a malfunctioning driver's door handle/latch. The safety issues are: A) the door will sometimes pop itself open while driving - it happened to me while making a right turn and I had to grab the open door with my hand; B) on one occasion I was unable to open the driver door from inside the vehicle, and had to climb out the passenger side; C) I also consider it a safety issue that I cannot lock the car to protect who/what is inside. The car starting having this issue around 1,000 miles, and is currently at the dealer waiting for a backordered part. I wanted to report this because, anecdotally, there are many others with the issue who are also waiting for a fix, and I don't think VWoA has the organizational ability to fix them voluntarily, nor enough qualified EV technicians.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside immediately after charging and not leave their vehicles charging indoors overnight until the recall repair is complete. Also, owners are advised not to use Level 3 DC chargers and to limit the maximum charge of the battery to 80% until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery cell modules as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 18, 2026. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 302, "Flammability of Interior Materials."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: In a fire, fabric that is not fire retardant may further fuel a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023 ID4 rear-wheel drive vehicles. The 12-Volt battery charging cable may contact the steering column shaft and cause the cable insulation to wear, possibly resulting in a short circuit.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A short circuit also increases the risk of a vehicle fire.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect the 12-Volt battery charging cable and repair or replace it, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 27, 2023. Consequence: Coolant that leaks into the high-voltage system may impact safety-critical systems and warning lights, causing a loss of vehicle control or unintended air bag deployment, and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Golf R A8, Audi S3, RS3 Sedan, Q4 E-Tron SUV, A3 Sedan, and 2022-2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI, and ID4 vehicles. The rearview camera image may be blank or unresponsive when the vehicle is placed in reverse gear or when the park function is manually activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Audi owners February 14, 2023. Volkswagen owners will receive an owner notification letter once remedy parts become available. 1RQ24010 · Inadvertent Door Opening

On May 16, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Recall Query (RQ) RQ24010 to investigate the remedy and scope of recalls 23V-213 and 23V-312. The affected vehicles by these recalls included model years (MY) 2021 through 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles. ODI received reports of the vehicle’s doors opening while the vehicle was in motion post recall remedy. ODI, also, received similar allegations on vehicles that were outside the scope of the recalls. Volkswagen issued recall 23V-213 on March 29, 2023, and recall 23V-213 on May 03, 2023. These recalls addressed the defect of water ingress into the circuit board assembly of the door handle. Water ingress can cause communication issues between the door handle and the door control until. This malfunction resulted in the vehicle door inadvertently opening while the vehicle was in motion. Over the course of the investigation, ODI received 17 unique VIN VOQ complaints of the vehicle doors opening while the vehicle was in motion occurring either post recall remedy or on a vehicle that was outside the recall scope. Volkswagen submitted 190 unique VIN complaints reporting the same circumstances. On September 4, 2024, Volkswagen submitted recall 24V-651 to address the issue of inadvertent opening of the door while the vehicle is in motion. The scope of this recall expands the affected vehicles to include all MY2021-2024 Volkswagen ID.4 models, including those remedied under the subject recalls. The recall remedy consists of replacement of the door handle assembly on all four doors as well as a software update. The software update is performed to update the door handle parameters. The new door handle will have the membrane relocated to the back of the handle to avoid standing water within the handle. Also, a protective coating will be on the front and back of the circuit board to avoid direct moisture formation.
