While driving this vehicle, the steering would take control and pull me to another lane at times. While turning or merging into another lane, it would auto correct and steer me into the lane I’m not steering into causing me from losing control of which direction I’m going into. A hard pull of the steering wheel would try to auto correct. Car automatically turned off on me while on the freeway losing power to the whole car. They said an update to the car is all is needed. This car is unsafe and needs to be recalled from the road before another injury occurs.

The lane assist feature repeatedly comes on randomly and has almost caused several accidents while I was driving. Specifically, I was driving on the freeway today in moderate traffic and the emergency lane assist warning flashes on and the car begins to jerk the steering wheel. It caused me to try to correct this and almost caused my hitting the car next to me. There are warning lights that repeatedly just come on without there actually being an issue. The roll back feature works randomly and has almost caused me to hit the car behind me. I have had Vinfats out to my house three times already regarding problems with the software, safety issues, and inability for the car to come on at all.
As per the technical specifications, The VF8 car must adhere collision safety features. But actually when we drive the car on freeways, State highways, and internal roads, these safely features never worked for me. Kindly refer the attached technical feature documents so called supported features by the manufacturer.

It feels like at lower speeds break paddle doesn't work. 3) The lane keeping assistant never worked. 4) Sometimes a car drags to one side of the traffic even when it is going at a speed of 25Mph.
Vehicle drove into traffic cones at night when adaptive cruise engaged. Freeway was reduced to two lanes and car ignored them. Pulled to side of road and car did not go back into gear. Gave errors.
Front collision sensors and lane keeping sensor do not work in direct sunlight. For 2 hours in the morning and two hours at dusk. Sensors are behind rear view mirror and they do not work when sun is at eye level.

I was driving on the highway 87 California from the south to the north. After I changed to the furthest left lane and stay within the lane completely. I started to turn on ADAS system, as I was adjusting the desired speed, I felt the car was speeding up too much to reach my speed set up, so I decided to step on the brake to slow down the car. Right when I step on the brake, I heard a loud noise from the car, which I strongly believe the car was experiencing the conflicting command within its software. On one hand, the car ADAS want to speed up to the desire speed, on the other hand, the brake was engaged by me so it need to stop. That conflicts result my car shifted to Neutral on the highway, which I was able to drive it to the emergency lane and stop it. After the car came to complete stop, I shifted it to Park, and the car screen had a lot of errors on the screen and unable to continue to drive. Only after I got out of the car and turned off the car completely and wait 15 minutes, then I was able to start the car and drive again.

Major Issues: Vehicle unresponsiveness: Twice in 4 days, the car was unresponsive, requiring a family member to stay in rain and cold weather (very dangerous) and wait for the car to restart(extremely dangerous). Unintended rolling: Once, the car started rolling back when parked on a slight incline, requiring me to activate creep mode. Additionally, while parked in reverse, the car inexplicably moved forward even with the gear in reverse (extremely dangerous). Speaker malfunctions: The speakers were unresponsive the first two days. On the second occasion, restarting the car resolved the issue but resulted in loud noise from the front speakers. Climate control malfunction: Despite turning off the AC and fan, cold air continues to come inside from the vents regardless of settings. This is uncomfortable and unusable during winter. Heads-up display not working(extremely dangerous). Battery warning: Technician mentioned battery is weak on new cars as per my knowledge batteries typically last 10+ years. Paintwork inconsistency: The driver-side paint color is uneven, with a clear and obvious difference between the top and bottom portions. Frunk battery cover broken. Minor Issues: Manual adjustment of drive mode required each time. System automatically turns off the 360-degree camera on turn signals. VinFast navigation is slow and inaccurate. Using CarPlay, but it frequently disconnects. CarPlay connects even when the car is parked, interrupting phone calls while talking inside home. Automatic locking not functioning as advertised. Sales rep mentioned I can just walk away with a key that will auto lock which never happened. Defrost fan automatically defaults to a high speed, and hot air directly on my face. If I try to change the fan speed, Defrost disabled. So I need to drive with a hot fan speed on my face. When in heavy fog, rain, direct light to cameras or sensor the safety features become unavailable. As soon as any of the above goes away they come back. This in my opinion becomes more of a risk driving these vehicles if the safety systems do not function properly.

VinFast Auto, LLC (VinFast) is recalling certain 2023-2025 VF8 vehicles. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) may activate during wide turns, causing unexpected steering wheel movements that are difficult for the driver to override.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A steering wheel that moves unexpectedly may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: VinFast will update the ADAS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2025. Owners may contact VinFast customer service at 1-833-503-0600.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An air bag that strikes the driver increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the center air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2025. Owners may contact VinFast customer service at 1-833-503-0600.

VinFast Auto, LLC (VinFast) is recalling certain 2023 VF8 vehicles. A software error may cause the multifunction head unit (MHU) display to go blank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A blank MHU display will not show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, which may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: VinFast will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 1, 2023. Owners may contact VinFast customer service at 1-833-503-0600. VinFast's number for this recall is VPAC-74.

On September 10, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE) 24025 to assess allegations of lane departures with the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) system engaged in Model Year (MY) 2023 through 2024 VinFast VF8 vehicles. The reports further alleged that the system exhibited difficulty detecting lanes on the roadway and, under certain conditions, provided improper steering inputs that resulted in an inconsistent control effort required by the driver, potentially elevating the risk of a crash or injury. To date, ODI has received a total of 17 related Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) of the LKA system in the subject vehicles. As a part of the investigation, NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) replicated the VOQ- reported conditions in a MY 2024 VinFast VF8. VRTC documented that two conditions within the MY 2024 VinFast VF8 LKA system may induce the vehicle to deviate laterally outside of the intended travel lane when navigating sweeping roadway curves. First, during sweeping turns, the steering wheel force required may abruptly change mid-turn, altering the steering wheel force equilibrium between driver input and roadway force, potentially causing the driver to unintentionally steer excessively leading vehicle to cross over its lane boundaries. Second, the LKA system may apply steering inputs to maintain the curve that move the vehicle toward the inside lane line and, in some cases, across the lane boundary, increasing the risk of a collision. On August 27, 2025, VinFast filed NHTSA Recall No. 25V-559 to address the safety-related defect in the LKA system. This recall consists of a software update that is intended to refine the system’s steering control and improve the overall driving smoothness. Specifically, the software update will: (i) reduce steering wheel vibration during the activation of the vehicle’s advance driver-assistance system (ADAS); (ii) make it easier for the driver to override the ADAS; and (iii) smooth the transition between an active and inactive LKA system, so that driver inputs deactivating the system may not cause unintended vehicle maneuvers. Because this recall action is taken by VinFast, ODI is closing PE24025. NHTSA reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
