On September 1, 2026, my 2022 Toyota Tundra experienced a serious loss of accelerator response while I was leaving a gas station and entering traffic. I pressed the accelerator, but the truck provided effectively no acceleration, leaving me partially in the roadway. An approaching vehicle had to swerve into the opposing traffic lane to avoid a collision. I had experienced a similar low-speed loss of accelerator response within the prior two weeks. On September 2, while traveling on I-70 at approximately 70 mph, the truck experienced a separate loss-of-power event. Engine RPM dropped considerably and the vehicle felt as though it were coasting. I pressed the accelerator firmly, but it did not respond normally for approximately 5-10 seconds before power returned. Radar/adaptive cruise control was not engaged. I immediately took the truck to Western Slope Toyota. Technicians checked for codes, performed multiple road tests and recorded vehicle data but could not reproduce the intermittent failure. The issue was escalated to Toyota technical assistance under TAS Case 262460664. This problem has been documented by Western Slope Toyota since 2023. Toyota's applicable TSB repairs were performed on prior occasions in an attempt to correct the throttle/hesitation problem, but they did not resolve it. In 2025, the dealer again documented the condition after the earlier TSB had already been performed. According to the September 2026 repair documentation and my discussion with the Western Slope Toyota service manager, Toyota's specialist technical team is aware that the condition can remain despite the TSB work. The repair order states that Toyota identified a known hesitation concern that remains under investigation and that there was no repair to be made at that time. The condition is intermittent and unpredictable and can cause loss of accelerator response or motive power at low and highway speeds. I believe it creates a serious crash risk. In this vehicle, I regularly experience a "delay" in gas pedal response. I drive a non-hybrid V6 twin turbo variant engine 2022 Toyota Tundra, and for a long time I thought this was just related to turbo spooling delays. But Toyota's recent TSB-0032-26 publishing last month confirmed that it is actually a TCM logic issue requiring a re-flash. I spoke to the dealership and this is not covered outside of the standard 3-year bumper to bumper warranty, and they wouldn't cover it under the powertrain warranty which lasts longer, even though this is technically a power train issue. This concern has left me challenged with timing gas pedaling from a full stop, often with a noticeable 1-2 second lag before the truck responds. I have had a couple of close calls because this behavior inhibits safe judgement calls for acceleration. Especially from full stops this is most noticeable, but also when you are trying to accelerate suddenly, there's always a brief delay.

There is a throttle lag when I depress the acceleration pedal, the vehicle doesnt not move for a period of time ranging from 0.5 seconds to 3 seconds. This is more prominent when performing a creeping start where the vehicle has not fully stopped.

On a cold start, or if you drive with the vehicle in normal mode, from my understanding, vehicles are now fly by wire, the computer has a lag that if you attempt to pull out in front of someone, the truck will simply fail to go, then after a delay.It will take off like a rocket, to circumvent this issue, I have found.If you drive in sport mode, it tends to have less of a delay. But it's a serious safety concern.Along with the other issues with these vehicles, I have had a few close calls, where the throttle response was incredibly delayed.

The truck has a hesitation to start from stop/slow state. This is concerning because when I start to accelerate, sometimes it doesn’t want to go for a 1-2 second time period making it unsafe to pull into traffic. It is sporadic and seems to happen more when I start and stop in quick succession.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX, and 2024 Lexus GX vehicles equipped with a V35A engine. Debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will perform an inspection on the #1 main bearing using vehicle inspection software and drive data, and if necessary, replace the engine. Repairs will be performed free of charge. A software error may cause the rearview image not to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the multimedia display software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 19, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB10 and 25TA10.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Reverse light failure may reduce visibility, and not alert pedestrians and other drivers that the vehicle is backing up, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace both reverse light assemblies and repair the wire harnesses as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 23, 2026. This is a phased recall. The load carrying capacity modification label states the incorrect load carrying capacity, which can result in an overloaded vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An overloaded vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles that may be equipped with a Toyota genuine accessory tonneau cover. The tonneau cover attachment joints may come loose and allow the cover to detach.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A tonneau cover that detaches while driving can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer. Dealer will install new hardware (bolts, spacers, washers, nuts, rubber washers and cotter pins) to the existing bracket and tonneau cover. If the tonneau cover has tears or splits at the mounting holes to the extent that new hardware cannot be installed, it will be replaced with a new tonneau cover and hardware. The Skid Control ECU within the Brake Actuator Assembly may falsely detect an overcurrent condition of the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Actuator and enter a failsafe mode which prevents the EPB from being engaged. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Consequence: An electronic parking brake that cannot be engaged while in "park," may result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Axle shaft separation can cause a loss of vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly, tighten the axle flange nuts, and replace any damaged axle-related components if necessary, free of charge.
