ON JULY 18, 2014 WHILE TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN, I SMELLED A BURNING WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. PULL OVER AT THE NEXT REST STOP TO LOOK THE CAR OVER AND I NOTICE THE HEADLIGHT COVER HAD BURNED. ON JULY 22, 2014, BACK IN TOWN, I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT 51 PREVIOUS BULB MELTED AND DISCOLORED HEADLIGHT HOUSING. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BULB WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP TWO MONTHS AGO. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT NO LIGHT IS ESCAPING FROM HOUSING WHICH MAY CAUSE IT TO OVERHEAT OVER A PERIOD OF TIME AND ESTIMATE COST TO REPLACE HOUSING - $499.75 (INCLUDES ALL LABOR AND TAXES). MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS BULB MELTED AND CAUSE A BURN ON THE HEADLIGHT COVER, THIS IS A DEFECT AND CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR A DEFECTIVE PART THAT COST ALMOST $500.00. THIS REQUIRES THE COMPLETE HOUSING TO BE REPLACED AND NOT THE COVER NOR DOES IT REPAIR THE PROBLEM SINCE THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR

THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL TOYOTA CAMRY HAS ALREADY HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE HYBRID VERSION FOR THE EXACT SAME PART. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO, THE TACHOMETER NEEDLE GOES UP AND DOWN LIKE CRAZY, THE AC CUTS OFF AND THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR CUTS OFF. THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS FAILURE LIGHT COME ON THE DASHBOARD SHOWING THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS FAILED. THE CARS DOES STOP BUT WITH HESITATION. I HAVE NO WAY TO KNOW IF THE BRAKE LIGHT ARE WORKING DURING THE FAILURE SO I AM CONCERNED I AM GOING TO GET REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WON'T KNOW I AM STOPPING. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF THIS ISSUE WILL GET WORSE AND THERE WILL BE A POINT WHERE IT WILL NOT STOP. I CALLED TOYOTA AND OPENED A CASE #1407190530 AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO SUCH ISSUES SHOWING IN THEIR DATABASE. I TOLD THEM IT SHOWS UP THOUSANDS OF TIMES ON GOOGLE AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD, WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE OR TOYOTA? I ASKED HIM TO CHECK FOR ANY NOTES ON THE MODEL DEALING WITH THE ABS ECM OR THE ABS ACTUATOR. HE TOLD ME THEY HAD NONE AND THAT I HAD TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A GREAT SCAM FOR THEM, THE CAR GIVES A CODE U0073 SHOWING THE PROBLEM IS THE ABS, SO THE DEALER GETS TO CHARGE A COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS TO RUN TESTS TO THEN TELL YOU THE 3 INCH SQUARE PART COST $4000 TO REPLACE BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT MAKE IT. YOU BUY THE PART IT COST THEM $50 TO MAKE FOR $4000 WITH LABOR OR YOUR DON'T HAVE A CAR. HAVING READ THROUGH HUNDRED OF POSTS ONLINE FROM PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, WITH THE EXACT SAME PART I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE CARS. TOYOTA HAS A BEAN COUNTER MENTALITY WHERE IT HAS FIGURED OUT THE NUMBER OF ACCEPTABLE DEAD AND HOW MUCH LEGAL FEES THEY CAN PAY BEFORE IT IS WORTH FIXING AN ISSUE. DEATHS BEFORE THE LOSS OF PROFIT SHOULD BE THE TOYOTA SLOGAN. *TR

13V442000 · Air Bags; Electrical System; Equipment:appliance:air Conditioner

Oct 17, 2013

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

SUMMARY: TOYOTA RECOVERED SOME FAILED IGNITION CONTROL MODULES FROM THEFIELD. INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT A SOLDER JOINT IN THE POWER TRANSISTOROF THE MODULE WAS SUBJECT TO FAILURE. BECAUSE THE PART IS AN EMISSIONRELATED COMPONENT A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS CONDUCTED.THE PREDOMINANT MODE OF FAILURE IS AN INABILITY TO START THE ENGINE,ALTHOUGH A STALLED CONDITION CAN OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.SINCE THE REPORTED OCCURENCE OF ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS SMALL, AND THEREPAIR IS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN, THELIKLEHOOD OF FURTHER ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS REMOTE.===
