DRIVING ON I-70 EAST OF FREDERICK, MD UP LONG HILL WHEN CAR LOST POWER. SPEED DROPPED FROM 75 TO 50 MPH. I WAS IN CENTER LANE AND TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. NARROWLY AVOIDED MULTI-CAR PILEUP WHILE TRYING TO WORK MY WAY TO SHOULDER. NOTHING ON DASHBOARD INDICATED PROBLEM. NO UNUSUAL ODORS OR SOUNDS. I HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 4 HOURS WHEN INCIDENT OCCURRED. WHEN I RETURNED TO FLORIDA 3 DAYS LATER I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM BECAUSE NO ERROR CODES APPEARED ON THEIR EQUIPMENT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE ARE NO HILLS IN THE AREA. TOOK CAR TO A SECOND DEALER AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. DEALER RECOMMENDS 6 CYLINDER CAR. I HAVE DRIVEN NOTHING BUT 4 CYLINDER CARS FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS AND HAVE DRIVEN THEM FROM COAST TO COAST INCLUDING COLORADO, WYOMING, MONTANA AND CALIFORNIA. I NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE 4 CYLINDER CARS ON ANY TERRAIN. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THE CAR HAS A DEFECT WHICH COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND THE LACK OF DIAGNOSIS INDICATES TO ME A FAILURE IN THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. *TR

I DID NOT SEE THIS YEAR LISTED ON THE RECALL LIST. YOU REALLY HAVE TO PUSH HARD ON IT WHEN YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE. WAS THIS PARTICULAR YEAR RECALLED? I'M ALSO HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW POWER SWITCH YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE THE WHOLE PLASTIC PIECE TO GET IT TO WORK, AND WHAT ABOUT THE AIRBAGS? I REALIZE THE CAR IS OLD BUT I'VE HEARD THAT TOYOTA'S RUN FOREVER AND MECHANICALLY IT'S BEEN GREAT SO FAR (EXCEPT FOR A LITTLE RUST). PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT THESE ISSUES ASAP.......THANKS. *TR

Oct 17, 2013
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

SUMMARY: TOYOTA RECOVERED SOME FAILED IGNITION CONTROL MODULES FROM THEFIELD. INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT A SOLDER JOINT IN THE POWER TRANSISTOROF THE MODULE WAS SUBJECT TO FAILURE. BECAUSE THE PART IS AN EMISSIONRELATED COMPONENT A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS CONDUCTED.THE PREDOMINANT MODE OF FAILURE IS AN INABILITY TO START THE ENGINE,ALTHOUGH A STALLED CONDITION CAN OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.SINCE THE REPORTED OCCURENCE OF ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS SMALL, AND THEREPAIR IS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN, THELIKLEHOOD OF FURTHER ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS REMOTE.===
