FOR THE FOURTH TIME, AN ACTUATOR IN MY 2014 CAMRY LE FAILED. I NOW HAVE HAD FOUR ' DIFFERENT ' ACTUATORS FAIL IN MY CAR. THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE. MOST CONSUMERS EXPECT THAT IF THE CAR HAS AN AUTO-LOCK FEATURE ' AS OURS HAS' THAT IT WILL DO SO. IF ONE DEPRESSES THE REMOTE LOCK BUTTON, OR THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THEY EXPECT ALL DOORS WILL LOCK. OUR DOORS FAIL IN ALL THESE WAYS. HAVING FOUR LOCKED DOORS IN OUR SEDAN IS A VITAL SAFETY FEATURE, BOTH DURING MOVEMENT, AND WHILE PARKED. WE BOUGHT OUR CAMRY AS A NEW CAR IN 2014. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO AT 31K MILES, THE REAR, LEFT ACTUATOR FAILED. THE OEM PART COST $341. I PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT, AND FIXED AT MY EXPENSE IN MARCH, 2018. THE DAY OF THE REPAIR, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FAILED. I CALLED TOYOTA EXPERIENCE. I ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE TO WHICH THEIR RESPONSE WAS A $200 REFUND ON A NEW ACTUATOR PURCHASE FROM A TOYOTA DEALER. THE COST OF NEW OEM PART WAS $329, PLUS, INSTALLATION. I WOULD HAVE TO FOOT THE DIFFERENCE AND JUMP THROUGH VARIOUS HOOPS TO SEEK A RE-IMBURSEMENT. IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2018 THE FRONT, DRIVER DOOR ACTUATOR FAILED. REALLY, THREE ACTUATORS GOING BAD ON ONE CAR ' STARTING WITH A THREE YEAR OLD AUTOMOBILE, GARAGED AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED, WITH ONLY 31,000 MILES? IN MID NOVEMBER THE REAR, PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT PROPERLY LOCK. NOW ALL THE ACTUATORS IN OUR CAR HAVE GONE BAD IN THE LAST YEAR! THIS IS A SAFETY AND WELFARE ISSUE. WE CONSTANTLY WORRY IF ANY OF THE DOORS AUTO-LOCK ON MOVEMENT. SIMILARLY, WE WORRY THAT IF A DOOR IS LEFT UNLOCKED WE COULD BE VICTIMIZED WITH AN UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY WITH LOSS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY, VANDALISM OR ASSAULT. AS WE HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH DOOR LOCK MECHANISMS SINCE WE STARTED DRIVING (LATE 1960S), WE THINK THIS IS A SAFETY AND QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD REMEDY.

THE RED INDICATOR LIGHT IN MY DASH DISPLAY CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AND CONTINUED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. MY ALTERNATOR NEEDS REPLACEMENT, WHICH IS VERY DISAPPOINTING BECAUSE THE CAR ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, AND THE ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT QUOTE FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE MY FAMILY PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IS QUOTING $1,245 FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR (PARTS & LABOR). AN INTERNET SEARCH LED ME TO FIND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO QUITE A FEW OWNERS OF THIS ERA OF TOYOTA. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL OR ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO COVER THE COST OF THIS VERY EXPENSIVE AND PREMATURE REPAIR. MY MECHANIC WARNED ME OF THE HUGE DANGERS OF HAVING MY ALTERATOR FAIL WHILE OPERATING THE CAR, ESPECIALLY WHILE DOING THE FAST FREEWAY DRIVING THAT IS SO COMMON IN LOS ANGELES. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE RED BATTERY DASH LIGHT INDICATED SUCH A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HOPE THAT IN THE NEAR FUTURE THIS CAN BE RECALLED, TO SAVE CONSUMERS THE HUGE COST OF MAKING THIS CRITICAL AND UNTIMELY REPAIR. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME READING THIS COMPLAINT AND YOUR CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER.

I HAVE CONTINUOUSLY HAD ISSUES WITH MY CARS IGNITION COILS AND VSC SYSTEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND VSC SYSTEM LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AND EVEN THOUGH I'VE SPENT THOUSANDS OF OD DOLLARS ON REPAIRS THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO POP UP EVEN WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND MULTIPLE REPAIRS. MY CAR MISFIRES AND TURNS OFF RANDOMLY THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. THE CAR MISFIRES IN IDLE,WHILE DRIVING AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS AND IT WONT TURN ON SOMETIMES UNTIL I CONNECT JUMPER CABLES TO THE BATTERY. WHEN I CONNECT THE JUMPER CABLES I NEVER NEED AN EXTRA SOURCE OF POWER I SIMPLY CONNECT ONE END OF THE CABLES TO THE BATTERY AND A FEW SECONDS LATER IT ALL THE LIGHTS TURN ON AGAIN AND THE CAR RESTARTS THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

2000 TOYOTA CAMRY CAUGHT ON FIRE AUGUST 7TH, 2018. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND MY RADIO KEPT GOING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND PARKED THE CAR. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STARTED TO SMELL SMOKE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE ON THE RIGHT SIDE NEAR THE BATTERY. I WAS ABLE TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT THE FIRE OUT BUT I HAVE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. I HAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT MY CAR SHOULD NOT START ON FIRE. I SUBMITTED A CLAIM TO TOYOTA (CLAIM# 180808-000043) ASKING IF THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN. TOYOTA SENT THEIR INSPECTOR AND HE NOTED THE STARTER FAILED TO DISENGAGE FROM FLYWHEEL CAUSING FIRE. THE STARTER KEPT RUNNING BURNING IT OUT AND ALSO BURNING THE POSITIVE CABLE TO THE BATTERY. TOYOTA DID NOT SHARE A COPY OF THE REPORT WITH ME. THE DAMAGE WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO WRITE OFF THE CAR WITH ONLY 95,000 MILES ON IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. WHY WOULD MY CAR STARTER CATCH ON FIRE LIKE THIS?

Oct 17, 2013

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
