2015 Toyota Camry

On August 19, 2026, due to my seizure, my car hit another car, then fence, and finally trees in a backyard. I had fractures in my brow bone, breast, ribs, and backbone because of the hit. My wife and daughter in the back seat also had serious injuries. The side airbag came out but front airbag didn’t. The malfunction of front airbag risked my and my families’ life.

The sunroofs have a drain which sometimes can plug up. This car was maintained several times a year since purchase by Toyota dealer. When the drain plugged up this fall, water backed up and came down inside of the passenger compartment on top of the electrical fuses, body computer. The leak IS NOT DETECTABLE by owner or occupant. But when it manifests itself, it does so with the Blind Spot Monitor failing randomly, the seat belt warning lights might or might not work, the airbag safety system fails, sometimes the whole instrument dash acts erractic including random on/off blinking, the tire pressure monitoring system fails. All these problems can occur before owner is ever aware of the problem. Since one of the items that is getting corrosion is a fuse block - potential fire while parked in a garage or while being drive is a possibility. In an accident failure of air bags can result in a fatality. I'm an engineer, so when things started blinking on dash - I took pictures or had another occupant take pictures. I showed them to the dealer service - they didn't make the connection with corrosion on the body computer that monitors and manages all the systems including the anti-lock and rollover system. It's in for repair at dealer now, now idea on the cost - but they've said damage is extensive AND we caught it before most people encounter it. I checked and could find no Toyota Service Bulletin that warned to look for the problem, repair techs had vehicle for week trying to find problem - and it took me insisting on looking for corrosion before they found it. This should result in: 1)Toyota special service bulletin to inspect every year and verify sunroof drain not blocked. 2) read diagnostics codes of the body network computer for issues, 3)Toyota special service recall to repair damage free to customers.

The contact owned a 2015 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at 70 MPH during nighttime, an animal jumped on the roadway and veered to the side attempting to avoid the animal. The steering wheel failed to turn in the desired direction and crashed into a guard rail. During the crash, the contact's head was hurt by the steering wheel, and no air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company and deemed a total loss. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.

The steering wheel clockspring ribbon was worn down in the middle, resulting in an open circuit of the SRS. The wear is between the ribbon and inside wall of the container that houses the ribbon. It appears to be a designing flaw or manufacturing defect. The wear was discovered by tearing down the clockspring unit. Airbag light on the dashboard was lit in November 2023. Replaced the clockspring unit on 2/17/2024. Without fixing the problem, the airbag on the steering wheel does not function when needed.

The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Camry. The contact stated her son was at a standstill at a traffic light when he was rear-ended and caused him to shoot forward and crash into another vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. No air bags deployed. The driver sustained neck injuries and did seek medical attention at an urgent care center. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

THE INSURANCE DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

MY MOTHER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT THAT COST HER LIFE. THE BLACK BOX ON THE CAR SAYS THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE POWER STEERING THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO PULL SHARPLY TO THE LEFT. THIS CAUSED HER TO HIT A CONCRETE MEDIAN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHERE HER AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. HER SPINE BROKE IN 4 PLACES AND SUFFERED 7 BROKEN RIBS.*DT*JB

DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HIT A HIGHWAY GUARDRAIL; THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION AT THE SCENE AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS NECK, SHOULDER AND HEAD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. DUE TO THE ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT TOW YARD. THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE ACCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
