77 reportsHEAD GASKET FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF COOLANT, OVERHEATING, ENGINE MISSES AND DISCHARGE OF WHITE SMOKE, SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS ISSUED BUT CONSUMER VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED. NLM
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING APPROX. 55-60 MPH WHEN THE POWER OF VEHICLE WAS FADING, SHE NOTICED WHITE SMOKE IN REAR AREA, THEN THE FRONT STARTED TO STEAM OUT. MECHANIC CHECKED COOLANT FOR LEAK CHECK HEAD GASKET REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD RESERVICED AND BALBE GRIND IT AND INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD WITH NEW GASKET , TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP.
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON/OFF. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT GO OFF, THE MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER ENGINE HEAD GASKET WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND THEY DID. CONSUMER RECEIVED TWO RECALL NOTICES CONCERNING ENGINE HEAD GASKET. *AK
ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN & CAN NOT BE RESTARTED ON THE ROAD. ALSO WILL SHUT DOWN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT SOMETIME IT WILL RESTART. DEALER CANNOT LOCATE OR FIX THE PROBLEM. FRED HAAS TOYOTA 8335 N. FREEWAY HOU, TX. 77037.
