I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR NOW AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH IT SINCE I LEFT THE DEALER SHIP. THE CAR HAS BEGUN TO GIVE ME A TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ENGINE POWER REDUCED LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TRYING TO GET TO WORK WHEN I CAME UP TO A HILL. I STARTED GOING UP THE HILL AS USUAL AND THE CAR ALL OF SUDDEN LOST ALL POWER. IT WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 45 MILES PER HOUR AND WAS STRUGGLING TO DO EVEN THAT. IT TOOK ME ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO GET THE HILL WHERE I SHUT MY CAR OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES. AFTER THE 10 MINUTES I TURNED MY CAR BACK ON AND IT FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM GOING ON IN THE CAR WHY WOULD BE CLEARED AFTER 10 MINUTES OF BEING OFF? THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DOESN'T SEE THAT THE AURA IN FRONT OF THEM IN BEING FORCED BY THE COMPUTER TO SLOW DOWN. THE BREAK LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAD TO SHUT MY CAR OFF 3 TIMES JUST TO MAKE IT 5 MILES WHERE I COULD GET IT LOOKED AT. THE POWER STEERING IN MY CAR IS ALSO WHACKED OUT. I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT WILL START TURNING THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN IN OLDER CARS, IT IS USUALLY CAUSED BY A BAD U JOINT. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE IT IS NOT. AFTER THIS OCCURRED I SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PLACED MY CAR IN PARK. THE STEERING WAS STILL SHAKING BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MANY DEALERS AND ASKED IF THEY COULD DETERMINE A CAUSE. ALL OF THEM HAVE SAID THE SAME THING, "I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT HAPPEN BEFORE". I WISH I WOULD HAVE LOOKED INTO ALL OF THE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS CAR BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPEN TO AURA OWNERS AND I THINK IT TIME GM PAYS FOR IT! *TR

THE REMOTE ON THE CAR STOPPED WORKING, AND THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD OPEN AND SHUT ON THEIR OWN AT VARIOUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING. I CONTINUOUSLY HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK THE CAR. ON A TOTAL OF 3 OCCASIONS MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I CUT THE CAR OFF AND WENT TO START IT AGAIN AND IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND AS I ACCELERATED THE CAR MOVED IN REVERSE. OIL LEAKING. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. PLEASE NOTE IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING FROM THE LAST TIME IT WOULD NOT START. I HAVE RECEIPTS TOTALING OVER 3,000.00 FOR THIS CAR IN A SHORT PERIOD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, ONLY TO HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK A MONTH LATER AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW BATTERY. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHEN IT STOPPED I HAD JUST GOTTEN THE CAR OUT OF THE SHOP AND 2 DAYS LATER IT STOPPED RUNNING. I PAID FOR A TOW AND WENT TO PICK IT UP FROM THE DEALER WHO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEN THE NEXT WEEK IT STOPPED RUNNING AGAIN, WHERE IT IS SITTING NOW. *TR UPDATED 03/07/14*LJ UPDATED 03/18/2014* JS

THE ESC TRACTION LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF RANDOMLY, THEN THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF RANDOMLY AND FUEL TANK AND THE ENGINE GAUGES GOING UP THEN BACK DOWN TO ZERO. AND NOW THE SECURITY SYSTEM HAS "LOCKED UP" AND WILL NOT DISENGAGE. I FOUND A WEBSITE [XXX] LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE, MANY START WITH CHANGING OUT TO A NEW BATTERY, THEN THE STATER AND THEN THE ALTERNATOR ONLY TO HAVE THIS ISSUE CONTINUE AND COSTING THEM A SMALL FORTUNE. IT SEEMS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER CONTROL PANEL HAVING A MALFUNCTION OR SHORT. BUT SINCE SATURN NO LONGER EXISTS, GM IS NOT DOING A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I HAD MY CAR TOWED INTO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSIS / REPAIR THIS MORNING. THEY JUST CALLED ME BACK SAYING THAT THE "UNDER BUS ELECTRIC CENTER" HAS SHORTED OUT / MALFUNCTIONED? BECAUSE IT'S NOT GETTING ANY POWER TO IT WHEN THEY TESTED IT. AFTER READING ALL THE POSTS ON THE ABOVE WEBSITE, IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE. THE POINT IN FILING A COMPLAINT IS THAT #1) GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE COMPUTER PANEL SHORTING OUT / BEING DEFECTIVE AS THERE ARE MORE THAN A 100 REPORTS. AND #2) AS SOMEONE ELSE HAD POSTED, DOES IT TAKE THIS ISSUE HAPPENING WHILE A PERSON IS DRIVING THE CAR, BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND DYING BEFORE ANY TYPE OF INVESTIGATION OR RECALL IS ENFORCED? AND IF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS, WOULD THE COMPUTER CONTROL PANEL EVEN BE TESTED? OR WOULD THE ACCIDENT BE ATTRIBUTED TO SOME OTHER CAUSE LIKE DRIVER ERROR OR WEATHER CONDITIONS OR WORN OUT TIRES? HOW DOES ANYONE KNOW THAT THIS ISSUE HASN'T CAUSED ACCIDENTS? *TR PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

AT FIRST, MY 08 SATURN AURA'S DRIVERS SEAT STOPPED WORKING, AND I COULD NO LONGER MOVE IT. I ASSUMED THE FUSE WAS OUT, SO I REPLACED IT. WITHIN ONE DAY, MY SEAT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. I WENT TO SOMEONE AND THEY SUGGESTED I TRY A FUSE WITH A HIGHER VOLTAGE. THEY PLACED THE FUSE FOR ME AND MY SEAT WORKED FOR A MOMENT AND THEN BLEW THE FUSE. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC, SO I DECIDED TO DEAL WITH MY SEAT NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE. A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE BACKSEAT DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVERS SIDE WOULD NOT UNLOCK OR LOCK EVERY TIME BY PRESSING THE UNLOCK BUTTON. THEN, THE DRIVER'S DOOR STOPPED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. SO EVERY TIME I GET OUT OF MY CAR AND HIT THE BUTTON TO LOCK MY DOORS, I HAVE TO PUSH THE ACTUAL LOCK DOWN ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR, AND THEN I HAVE TO OPEN THE BACK DOOR AND PUSH THAT LOCK DOWN. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND BLINKER. WHEN MY BLINKER AND HEADLIGHT FIRST WENT OUT I DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT, SO I REPLACED THE BULBS. A DAY OR TWO LATER, THE BLINKER AND HEADLIGHT WERE OUT AGAIN. I REPLACED THE BULBS A SECOND TIME, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN A BAD PRODUCT I BOUGHT. THE BLINKER AND HEADLIGHT WORKED AGAIN AND THEN STOPPED A DAY LATER. SOME MORNINGS I GET LUCKY AND MY DOORS WILL UNLOCK OR LOCK AND SOMETIMES MY BLINKER AND HEADLIGHT WILL WORK, BUT BY THE TIME I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING THEY WILL STOP WORKING AGAIN. THIS IS ALL VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE SOMETHING IS ALWAYS GOING WRONG ON THIS CAR. I AM TERRIFIED ONE DAY SOMETHING ELSE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE BRAKES WILL GO OUT AND COULD COST ME MY LIFE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCKS. FIRST THE FRONT DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR OPEN CIRCUIT. AT 50,079 MILES NOV 2012. NOW AT 60,000 MILES THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR HAS FAILED. IF MANUALLY UNLOCKED IT WILL NOT LOCK WITH THE FOB OR POWER DOOR SWITCH. IF LOCKED IT WILL NOT UNLOCK. *TR

I PURCHASED AND 08 AURA ABOUT 1.5 YEARS AGO FOR MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER. OTHER THAN A FEW MINOR PROBLEMS THE CAR WAS FINE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO SHE EXPERIENCED A DEAD BATTERY AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE A FRIEND "JUMP START" THE CAR AND AS FOR THE BATTERY, IT HAS BEEN FINE SINCE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM (TPMS) WAS INOPERATIVE AND WOULD NOT RESET MANUALLY. THESE TPMS, I BELIEVE, CAME ABOUT DUE TO THE INABILITY TO BE ABLE TO VISUALLY SEE THAT A TIRE IS "LOW" WITH TODAYS "RUN FLAT', LOW PROFILE, AND STIFFER SIDEWALL, TIRES AND THAT THE MAJORITY OF DRIVERS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE ANYWAY. I WAS THEREFORE CONCERNED ABOUT MY DAUGHTERS SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER THAT COULD BE INVOLVED IN A CRASH THAT RESULTED FROM POOR HANDLING OR WORSE, AN OVERHEATED TIRE AND BLOWOUT. I DID SOME SEARCHING AND DISCOVERED THAT GM HAD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) EXPLAINING THAT THE TPMS FAILURE WAS DUE TO A "LOW VOLTAGE" INCIDENT THAT CAUSES THE CONTROL MODULE TO LOSE MEMORY. THE FIX, ACCORDING TO THE TSB, WAS TO REPROGRAM THE MODULE WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE. THIS BEING A KNOWN CONDITION AND SAFETY CONCERN, I DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I CONTACTED GM WHO REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR AND I ULTIMATELY PAID ABOUT $60. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN ON MULTIPLE VEHICLES FROM GM INCLUDING MOST OF THE 08 SATURN LINE AS WELL AS THE PONTIAC G5 AND G6, AND CHEVY COBALT. I ALSO FOUND THAT NHTSA FOUND REASON FOR RECALL ON SOME GM SUV'S A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO DUE TO A PROGRAMMING ERROR ON THE TPMS WHICH IS WHAT THIS IS. AS THESE 08 CARS AGE THEY ARE NOW REACHING THE EXPECTED LIFE OF THEIR BATTERY AND REPLACING THEM WHICH IS CAUSING THE TPMS SYSTEM TO BE INOPERATIVE. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD FOR SAKE OF THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS RECALL THESE AFFECTED CARS AND PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTS. SOME MAY HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED. *TR

May 14, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Saturn Aura and model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. On these vehicles, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'PARK' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'PARK.' The vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. This service will be performed free of charge. Notification to owners began on on November 9, 2012. Owners were instructed to not bring their vehicles for repair until January 2013. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300.

On April 29, 2014, GM submitted a Part 573 defect information report initiating Safety Recall 14V-224 to remedy the subject vehicles equipped with four speed automatic transmissions manufactured before October 31, 2007.On May 22, 2014 GM expanded 14V-224 to include MY 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx and MY 2005 - 2008 Pontiac G6 (total recall population 1,131,113).GM will install a replacement shift cable assembly to remedy the affected vehicles. The subject shift cable's protective outer conduit (jacket) deteriorates with time and use.Jacket deterioration could lead to a tear of the conduit material which allows moisture to reach the lay wires, potentially causing them to corrode and weaken. The lay wires provide support to the inner core wire that performs the shift detent actuation of the transmission.Without sufficient lay wire support, the shifter position inside the vehicle and the actual transmission gear selection may not align.A complete loss of shift function can occur when the core wire fractures and fails fully. The failure data supports that the problem affects subject vehicles equipped with four-speed automatic transmissions. Aura vehicles manufactured with other transmission types use a different shift cable assembly, as do four speed equipped Aura's manufactured after October 31, 2007.Transmission shift cable failure can cause multiple shift function failure modes. One involves an engine no-start condition where the gear shifter is in the park position but the transmission is actually in drive or reverse gear (engine starting is inhibited in this circumstance).A second involves non-powered vehicle movement where the driver turns the engine off and moves the shifter to park but the transmission fails to engage the park gear; the vehicle may roll away if the driver exits without setting the park brake.A third involves powered vehicle movements, where the driver moves the gearshift but the transmission fails to engage the intended gear, and the engine remains running. For instance the driver can shift to park but the transmission may remain in drive or reverse, resulting in vehicle movement when the driver does not expect it.Another failure involves the driver shifting to reverse but the transmission remains in drive, resulting in the vehicle moving in a direction opposite to that the driver intended.Another failure mode results in complete loss of shifting. Both NHTSA and GM have received complaints alleging one or more of these failure scenarios, and in some cases consumers report experiencing multiple problems over the course of several drive cycles. In one incident, the vehicle unexpectedly moved forward after the driver placed the gear selector in park resulting in the vehicle striking a fixed object (porch railing).Among the crashes identified above, nine involved property damage and two involved minor injuries when the vehicles rolled and struck the driver as they exited the vehicle. The recall action initiated by the manufacturer appears to address the safety risks of concern to ODI.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The VOQs cited above can be viewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10274914, 10404010, 10432953, 10446285, 10458417, 10495979, 10547333, 10354195 , 10404496, 10435560, 10447211, 10461922, 10498567, 10547683, 10374834, 10405577, 10435633, 10447303, 10464207, 10513116, 10553840, 10378975, 10409341, 10435653, 10449759, 10464388, 10513875, 10554335, 10382559, 10411913, 10435677, 10452089, 10467958, 10516001, 10565628, 10383044, 10412157, 10435996, 10452662, 10478887, 10522732, 10566451, 1039013
