While operating the vehicle in heavy traffic (stop and go) conditions at about 10 mph the vehicle displayed an error message (STOP START RESET REQUIRED) shifted itself from DRIVE to PARK and applied the PARKING BRAKE uncommanded. Note that the auto stop start was in the ON position for several occurrences, but even with the automatic stop/start OFF the same anomaly occurred. These events happened during rush hour traffic on I95 in the express lanes as well as inside of an automatic car wash and during that instance it resulted on another vehicle striking mine from behind. To get the vehicle to move again required me to STOP the engine, switch to PARK, RESTART the engine and release the already applied parking brake.

My RAM vehicle has several open safety recalls. For more than six months, I have repeatedly contacted my local authorized RAM dealership (Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram FIAT of Winter Haven, Address: [XXX], Phone: [XXX]) to have these safety recalls completed. The dealership has advised me that the required recall parts are unavailable and therefore they cannot perform the repairs. I also contacted RAM/Mopar customer service directly for assistance in obtaining the recall repairs and scheduling an appointment. RAM/Mopar has been unable to provide a definite date when the required parts will become available or when the safety recall repairs can be completed. I am concerned that I have been required to continue operating a vehicle with known safety recalls for more than six months without a clear repair date or an available remedy. I am requesting NHTSA's assistance in reviewing this matter and determining whether RAM/Stellantis is meeting its obligations to provide the required safety-recall remedies within a reasonable time. The dealer replaced the brake tow module the end of June and I was still getting trailer warning lights afterwards and took it back to the dealer and they said everything is fine found no problems that it was possible the trailer hitch was sticking out to far and maybe the sensors were randomly picking up the trailer hitch so I have been driving with no trailer connected and sensors turned off and still getting a trailer warning light on the dash as being connected. I have an Curt 51180 Brake controller I had used on 3 different trailers before the module was changed and I went to pick up my trailer this past weekend and my Curt brake controller will not operate and unable to program it as says trailer disconnected.

Towed RAM pickup to dealer for failing to start. Battery/shifter problems found and fixed. While driving the truck from service center, dealer tech found NO BRAKES. Subsequent diagnosis found failed BRAKE BOOSTER MOTOR failure. Sucessfully repaired. This incident could have been lethal under different circumstances. It shows a VERY unnecessary design flaw which is putting an electronic controlled component into the braking process. Historically the brakes have work reliably with strictly a mechanical/hydraulic process. Moreover, there is no emergency break pedal as I have subsequently discovered after the fact.

While driving on the highway, I first noticed the vehicle becoming difficult to steer. The steering felt unusually heavy and sluggish, as if power steering assistance was reduced or failing. Shortly after this began, multiple warning lights illuminated across the dashboard. At that point, braking performance also became severely compromised. The brake pedal felt soft and traveled nearly to the floor with very limited stopping power. The vehicle required significantly increased distance to slow and stop, creating a serious safety hazard in active highway traffic. The combination of reduced steering assist and severely degraded braking performance made the vehicle difficult to control and presented a significant safety risk. I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop and it was later towed to a dealership. At the time of inspection, the battery was found to be dead. I had recently returned from a 5-day trip and the vehicle required a jump start before this driving event. The dealership replaced the battery and stated the vehicle was operating normally after repair. However, the incident involved progressive loss of steering assist followed by significant loss of braking performance at highway speed. I am reporting this as a serious safety concern because multiple critical vehicle control systems were affected while driving. I am concerned about potential recurrence of this issue and the risk it presents to driver and public safety. The vehicle is available for inspection.
