The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the tailgate unintentionally opened while driving at various speeds. The tailgate ajar light failed to illuminate while the tailgate was open. The contact learned of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V904000 (Structure). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.

At Chapman Chrysler Dodge Jeep 89014, I parked in the service drive informing the service advisor something is wrong with my tailgate, and it dropped in-front of the advisor, he closed it and tried to open it and it wouldn’t open, while he was making my appointment it dropped again 10/27/2023. I have contacted the FCA Recall Spoke to Delroy he said my vehicle wasn’t part of the recall, and with 23,534.5 miles it was out of base warranty, he said I have power train coverage, gave me a Case # [XXX] he told me to cancel my 7:00am appointment 10/28/2023 and wait for a correlating response so I didn’t have to pay. Failure point - Cracked back glass frame and gasket which allowed water to leak into the cab and onto the radio frequency module causing it to corrode. When raining the vehicle started on its own while I was sitting inside it. While driving to the mechanic the vehicle wouldn’t shift out of first gear. While driving multiple service systems lights came on along with service airbag system warning. The issue was confirmed by the dealership. The dealership replaced the failed parts along with the third break light for no apparent reason. There was never a mention of there being issue with it. Warning lamps were on however the lamps wouldn’t stay on due to the electrical issue.

There is a presence of a moldy smell in the car. After closer visual inspection, rear window frame had cracked in two spots allowing water from outside to get in and go behind the rear seats, making a carpets wet which produces the mold. Water also getting onto electrical systems like radio amplifier and rear seat ventilation making them corrode. There is no way an owner can find a problem under normal conditions making car occupants inhale harmful mold. This is a safety hazard and a common problem of a 5th gen Ram 1500.

My 2019 Ram truck has less than 41,900 miles on it.I drove it Thursday morning, but then was stranded.The vehicle wouldn’t unlock, lock, or start. Upon entering using the manual key, the vehicle wouldn’t recognize my key fob. My second key fob would not work either. I called a locksmith to see if he could reset the computer, but he couldn’t. So I called a tow truck. After giving them $100, the dealer couldn’t look at it for several days. Meanwhile I’m stranded without a vehicle. Luckily not in the remote wilderness. My truck sat for a week.The dealer called and said the RF Hub was bad. The RF Hub controls everything from the key fobs, ignition, alarm, brakes, door locks, all electronics, etc. $605 now paid to the dealer for them to replace this RF Hub that is mounted on the back wall of the cab under the rear window. Had this been in the middle of winter, or when I was at high altitude in the mountains last fall it could be a life or death situation.Being locked out and unable to move a vehicle, being stranded is dangerous. Particularly with health issues. What the dealer didn’t do is correct the problem.The back window frame on these Rams breaks and then leaks water into the cab.The leak shorts out the electrical equipment behind the rear seat.Thankfully it didn’t start a fire. A google search of the issue finds hundreds of complaints about the rear windows in these trucks. Imagine a young mother with little children out on the road when the vehicle leaks enough to fry the RF Hub! The Ram dealer charged me to replace the RF Hub, but didn’t bother to fix the problem with the rear window. I am taking it upon myself to attempt to stop the leak before I get stranded again because of fried electronics because of their faulty design. I have attached pictures of the problem.After paying the locksmith, tow, dealer, and pulling out the rear seats, drying all of the carpet, it is clear to see the problem with the rear window. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V904000 (Structure) since the VIN was not included. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. The second-row center and left-side seat belt buckle anchors may have been improperly installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An improperly installed seat belt buckle anchor may fail to properly restrain occupants, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and attach the seat belt buckle anchor to the body structure as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 18, 2026. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace one or both side curtain air bags, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2025. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2020 Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Cherokee, 2019-2020 Ram 1500 Pickup, Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Renegade and 2019 Dodge Challenger vehicles equipped with 8.4" or 12" radio displays. A software error can cause the rearview camera image to remain displayed after the vehicle has been shifted out of reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The lingering rearview image can distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Chrysler has notified owners, and dealers will update the radio display software, free of charge. Optionally, owners can choose to remotely update their software via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update available as of May 1, 2020. The recall began April 27, 2020. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals. In certain accelerator pedal positions, the floormats may prevent the pedal from returning to the normal resting (idle) position.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A pedal that does not return as expected may affect the vehicle's deceleration, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence: Reduced visibility increases the risk of a crash.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE21-021 on October 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, ODI sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response materials from both FCA and BMW, NHTSA determined that sufficient information to identify a comprehensive recall population could not be produced by FCA and BMW.During the investigation FCA filed recalls 22V406, 22E048, 22V767, and 22E087 which include vehicles not identified in the initial subject population by ODI. ODI also received recall 21V586, involving loss of motive power due to failed CP4 fuel pumps on certain BMW manufactured vehicles. An information request letter response received from BMW indicated that failed pumps on their vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and US market diesel fuel, leading to increased slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface.
