I AM THE 2ND OWNER TO A G6 HAVE NOTICED SINCE ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE THAT WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS THERE IS A CLANKING/BANGING NOISE. HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL OTHERS MENTION OF THIS SAME ISSUE. NOW IT SHOWS OBVIOUS RECALL FOR THE U JOINT FOR THIS VEHICLE, YET BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND PONTIAC ARE ONLY SAYING IT IS VIN SPECIFIC WHICH TO ME IS A CROCK OF (YOU FILL IN). THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS YET THEY WANT TO DO NOTHING. GUESS MAJOR ACCIDENTS OR DEATH MUST NEED TO RESULT IN ORDER FOR THEM TO FIX THE ISSUE. ALSO AT JUST ANY RANDOM TIME THE AIRBAG WARNING WILL JUST POP UP ON MY DASHBOARD. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN NO ACCIDENTS, SO THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO THAT JUST RANDOMLY "POPPIGN UP" I WILL BE MAKING FORMAL COMPLAINTS TO BBB AND NATIONAL SAFETY WEBSITE. IF YOU POST A RECALL FOR A VEHICLE, IT IS NOT VIN SPECIFIC AS THEY ARE ALL USING THE SAME PARTS. COME ON GM WE ARE NOT IDIOTS HERE!!!!!

NOTED THE CAR WAS NOT HIT IN THE FRONT NOR DAMAGED TO WHERE THE AIRBAGS WERE SUPPOSE TO COME OUT. BEFORE THAT WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR MY AIRBAG SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. AND IF I HAVE A PASSENGER SITTIN IN THE PASSENGERSIDE SEAT IT WOULD READ THAT NO ONE IS IN THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAG WOULD BE OFF THEN IF YOU RIDE FOR AWHILE IT WOULD POP BACK ON. BUT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING CAUSED GREAT AMOUNT OF PAIN TO MY HUSBAND FACE AND MY CHEST AREA.

ALSO, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME AT STOP LIGHTS THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHILE I AM DRIVING AND OFF WHILE I AM STOPPED. I FOUND ONLINE THAT THIS A RECALL ISSUE BUT IT DOESN'T PULL UP FOR MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER. THESE ARE ISSUES OUTSIDE OF THE RECALLS THAT I WAS ALREADY FORCED TO DEAL WITH. *TR

LOSS OF ALL POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. POWER STEERING DISPLAYED ON DISPLAY SCREEN. LOSS OF POWER STEERING MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS ISSUE COULD DEFINITELY CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM THEN BECAME INTERMITTENT IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS IT WOULD TAKE UP ABOUT FOUR TIME TO START THE CAR TO BE ABLE TO START DRIVING WITHOUT POWER STEERING. MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY OF THE RECALLS. I TOOK TO A GM DEALERSHIP THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS INDEED, THE TORQUE MODULE SENSOR, WHICH IS THE SAME AS ALL THE OTHER VEHICLES UNDER RECALL. SO WHY IS MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED?!?! I HAD THIS ISSUE FIXED TODAY. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT ALSO JUST STARTED HAPPENING IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS IS MY PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT WORK. THE AIRBAG DISPLAY WILL SHOW ON MY DASH BOARD AND IT WILL SHOW THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF. THIS LIGHT COMES AT RANDOM TIMES WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS SOMEONE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I ALSO HAD THIS DIAGNOSED AT THE GM DEALERSHIP. THE SAID IT WAS MY PPS (PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM) THIS ALSO NEEDS A NEW SENSOR AND IT WILL COST $700 TO FIX!!!! THERE IS SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS FOR MY CAR SO THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY AWARE THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECH AT GM SAID THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH THIS (NO KIDDING) AND THAT IF THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH NONE OF MY AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY. LETS HOPE THAT GM DOES NOT DRAG THEIR FEET ON THIS, ALL SOMEONE NEEDS IS TO LOOSE THEIR POWER STEERING, CRASH, AND HAVE NO AIRBAGS DEPLOY. I HAVE NOT HAD MY AIRBAGS FIXED AS I ALREADY HAD TO SPEND $400 PLUS TO HAVE MY POWER STEERING CORRECTED. IF GM DOES NOT CORRECT THIS ASAP I PREDICT THEY WILL HAVE MANY MORE LAWSUITS COMING THEIR WAY. LETS HOPE I DO NOT GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT UNTIL GM DECIDES TO PAY FOR IT OR UNTIL I CAN SAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

SOMETIMES THINKING WOULD IT GO OFF AND MAKE ME HAVE AN ACCIDENT. IF AFRAID TO EVEN LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2008 SO I DON'T KNOW IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER EVER TOOK IT FOR THE RECALL. I WAS LOOKING IN THE INTERNET AND SAW THAT IN 2007 THERE WAS A RECALL FOR AIR BAGS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHICH IT IS EXACTLY WHERE IT IS HAPPENING IN MY VEHICLE RECALL 07V146000. I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM CONSTANTLY. PLACE ADVISE ME IN WHAT TO DO BEFORE THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. I WILL NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND MY FAMILY. MY NAME IS [XXX]. IT IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN MY OFTEN. AM I STILL ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. A MECHANIC PUT A CODE MACHINE AND TOLD ME THAT IT COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT IN FRONT OF MY HOME. THE FRONT END WAS REBUILT. EVER SINCE THAT ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASH AND RADIO.THIS IS A DAILY THING. IT EVEN LIGHTS UP WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I ALSO NOTICED THIS YEAR THAT MY SEAT BELT LIGHT HAS COME ON AS I WAS WEARING IT MEANING THE LIGHT STATES I DIDN'T HAVE IT ON WHEN I DID. THIS YEAR I ALSO LOST STEERING IN THE CAR DUE TO A BAD ALTERNATOR WHICH FRIED MY BATTERY AND PASSENGER HEAD LAMP SOCKET. GOOD THING I LOST THE STEERING WHILE I WAS PARKING AND NO ON A HIGHWAY... THESE PROBLEMS I ENCOUNTERED ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES. WHEN I SWITCHED INSURANCE COMPANIES TO PROGRESSIVE THEY HAD ON THEIR WEBSITE ABOUT RECALLS I CLICKED IT AND SAW A RECALL FOR THE ISSUE I WAS HAVING. I CALLED ABOUT IT AND WAS DENIED. SO I LET IT GO BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD HELP ME. THEN I SAW ON C-SPAN THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND AIR BAG. ONCE AGAIN I CALLED AND WAS DENIED. THEY SAID MY VIN NUMBER DIDN'T MATCH THE INFECTED VEHICLES. NOW I HAVE A RECALL THAT STATES THAT GM IS CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SHIFT CABLE ASSEMBLY. IF GM IS CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY THEN THIS ISSUE I HAVE WILL BE INVESTIGATED. ALL I ASK IS THAT GM DO THE RIGHT THING FOR ME ONE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

07V146000 · Air Bags:frontal:sensor/control MODULE-INACTIVE

Mar 30, 2007

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSING SYSTEM. WHEN TESTED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE, UNRESTRAINED SIX YEAR OLD CHILD, THE SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG. INTERFERENCE DURING SYSTEM CALIBRATION CAUSED THE SEATS TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting; Exterior Lighting:brake Lights; Exterior Lighting:tail Lights

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
